[Bug 1442087] Re: don't run as root by default

2015-04-13 Thread Andreas Olsson
Well, the user switching can also apply to writing to user specific
bayes databases, even if that too can be solved in other ways.

Anyway, I'm not in any position to make any decisions here, I just
wanted to provide a bit of context while doing initial bug triage.

One reason one might want to run spamd as root is that it allows spamc
to be called by multiple users, and have spamd change uid accordingly.

Yes, and if nothing else it matters since that expired certificate set
causes the test suite to fail, and by extension also the package build.

Not sure whatever the expired sample cert desserves a SRU by itself, or
if it can just be taken care of the next time there is another reason to
upgrade the openvpn package.

[Bug 1302812] Re: Explicit identity files are being used after implicit files are attempted

2014-04-04 Thread Andreas Olsson
It's an explicit behavior of the openssh client to try keys provided by
the ssh agent. If you don't want this behavior you can set the
IdentitiesOnly ssh config option.

I would assume that what is happening here is that you are using the
gnome-keyring as your ssh agent? From what I can see it automatically
adds any key it can find under ~/.ssh/.

(Not that I have much of an opinion either way in regards to whatever
there is a bug anywhere or not.)

[Bug 1286346] [NEW] [FFe] Sync puppet 3.4.3-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-02-28 Thread Andreas Olsson
Public bug reported:

Please sync puppet 3.4.3-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current trusty version 3.4.2-1:

puppet (3.4.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Jonas Genannt ]
  * [57515db] d/control: added ruby-rrd as primary Suggests, left librrd-ruby
for easy backporting.

  [ Stig Sandbeck Mathisen ]
  * Imported upstream release 3.4.3

 -- Stig Sandbeck Mathisen Thu, 20 Feb 2014 11:41:42
+0100

For this I would like to request a Feature Freeze exception, to fix Bug
#1286196.

While the bug in question is harmless in itself the bug is relativity
visable and ugly. Also, this being an Upstream microrelease change
ought to place the sync square in the bug fix category.

[Bug 1286196] Re: puppet incompatible with 14.04 packet mechanism

2014-02-28 Thread Andreas Olsson
I can confirm this issue running the Ubuntu 14.04 puppet 3.4.2-1
verison.

This appearing to be related to the upstream bug
https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-337, except that I disagree
about the fix version.

Under Ubuntu 12.04, where I run the puppetlabs puppet packages the
problem went away when upgrading from Puppet 3.4.2-1puppetlabs1 to
Puppet 3.4.3-1puppetlabs1.

Under Ubuntu 14.04 the problem likewise went away upgrading from Puppet
3.4.2-1 to Puppet 3.4.3-1, with the later version being manually taken
from Debian Sid.

The easiest fix here is probalby making sure that Ubuntu 14.04 too gets
Puppet 3.4.3-1 before release.

[Bug 713646] [NEW] IPv6 functionality in ip_ plugin assumse #!/bin/sh being bash

2011-02-05 Thread Andreas Olsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: munin

The ip_ plugin in 1.4.5-3ubuntu2 fails to handle IPv6 addresses when

Florian: The default status describes the most recent version of Ubuntu,

[Bug 462749] Re: vsftpd-2.2.0 (currently in karmic) is affected by pasv_address regression

2010-03-10 Thread Andreas Olsson
I would like to submit a Karmic SRU for this bug. While there might be a
relatively small number of users who uses the non default configuration
"pasv_address" this regression practically makes vsftpd impossible to
use.

This regression has been fixed upstream and has made its way in Lucid.
The patch I'm applying in this Karmic SRU is a minimal backport made by
Chuck Short , and tested from his PPA.

TEST CASE:
1) Add a "pasv_address" option to /etc/vsftpd.conf, for example
"pasv_address=192.168.1.44".
2) restart vsftpd
3) Initiate a passive ftp connection and begin a datatransfer
  andr...@stilgar:~$ ftp -p 192.168.1.44
  Connected to 192.168.1.44.
  220 (vsFTPd 2.2.0)
  Name (192.168.1.44:andreas): anonymous
  331 Please specify the password.
  Password:
  230 Login successful.
  Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
  ftp> ls
  500 OOPS: priv_sock_get_cmd
  Passive mode refused.
  ftp>

With the fixed applied, and the same configuration applied, it should instead
play out like this.
  andr...@stilgar:~$ ftp -p 192.168.1.44
  Connected to 192.168.1.44.
  220 (vsFTPd 2.2.0)
  Name (192.168.1.44:andreas): anonymous
  331 Please specify the password.
  Password:
  230 Login successful.
  Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
  ftp> ls
  227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,1,44,171,68).
150 Here comes the directory listing.
  226 Directory send OK.
  ftp>

I have a hard time imagining how users could get inadvertently affected
by this SRU. It seems more than unlikely that someone would actively
depend on a configuration where a segfault is the desired result.
Regarding the regression potential, it should be minimal, as this is a
minimal patch applied in an area of the code which should only be called
in those conditions when this bug otherwise would be in effect anyway.

[Bug 531706] Re: apache2 crashed with SIGSEGV in sapi_getenv()

2010-03-09 Thread Andreas Olsson
Well, myself I do manage to do run php pages on Lucid, with apache2
2.2.14-5ubuntu2 as well as 5.3.1-5ubuntu1.

Are you actively serving php pages when Apache crashes, or is it enough
to have the php5 module loaded? If you are serving PHP, do you think you
can provide a piece of PHP which triggers the crash?

[Bug 534647] Re: default apache config causes an empty webpage on lucid

2010-03-09 Thread Andreas Olsson
Not really sure I understand the symptoms you are experiencing.

First of all I assume you are accessing /munin/ by
http://localhost/munin/? Based on the default configuration in
/etc/munin/apache.conf (symlinked from /etc/apache2/conf.d/munin) it
shouldn't be accessible at all from a remote host.

Secondly I have a hard time seeing how "Options Indexes" should do any
difference, as munin webpage is an actual index.html file, no a
directory index. Might the explaination be that when you first, before
modifying your apache configuration, there hadn't yet been a index.html
generated inside the /var/cache/munin/www/? Could there be something
which I have misunderstood?

Can you try to reproduce the problem, with the original "Options None",
while at the same time verify the existence of the file
/var/cache/munin/www/index.html?

[Bug 532862] Re: init.d script points to a program named force-reload, which does not exist

2010-03-06 Thread Andreas Olsson
Actually, this is an Upstart issue, which I can confirm as of Upstart
0.6.5-4.

/etc/init.d/mysql is merely a symlink for the general file /lib/init
/upstart-job, which use the same case to catch both reload and force-
reload, using the variable COMMAND to refer to the actual command being
used.

Not sure if the solution is to teach initctl about force-reload or if
/lib/init/upstart-job should be rewritten to give a more proper
response.

[Bug 518281] Re: package postfix 2.6.5-3 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-02-20 Thread Andreas Olsson
Relevant log errors

  newaliases: warning: valid_hostname: misplaced delimiter:
ubuntulaptop.hsd1.in.comcast.net.
newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter myhostname: bad
parameter value: ubuntulaptop.hsd1.in.comcast.net.

In other words, this isn't a bug but postfix reacting to a "faulty"
filename. There shouldn't be a dot at the end.

You might want to check your /etc/hosts and/or /etc/hostname. You
probably also want to make sure the faulty name hasn't ended up in
/etc/postfix/main.cf.

about. This report is about a potential problem with the handling of dsa
keys specifically.

the original package need to be purge. The file /etc/mysql/my.cnf belong

[Bug 301913] Re: php timezone in apache2 is UTC by default

2009-08-16 Thread Andreas Olsson
@Micah: Not sure if I see the bug you are referring too? From what I can
see libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.6-2ubuntu4.2 hasn't any problem with
"Querying the host operating system" on what timezone to use? Or do you
have a scenario when libapache2-mod-php5 fails to use the server
time(zone)? Or how do you believe libapache2-mod-php5 should behave
instead?

The reason php5-cli behaves differently sounds as the result of it
reading your local locale information.

[Bug 414232] Re: munin-node tries to "autoconf" /usr/share/munin/plugins/postgres_space_

2009-08-15 Thread Andreas Olsson
Ok, based on
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29930107/munin_1.2.6-12ubuntu1_1.2.6-13ubuntu1.diff.gz
I would say "capabilities=autoconf" returned between 1.2.6-12 and munin
1.2.6-13. Hence it's seems as something which (accidentally?) happened
while fixing http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=518790.

[Bug 414232] [NEW] munin-node tries to "autoconf" /usr/share/munin/plugins/postgres_space_

2009-08-15 Thread Andreas Olsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: munin

Installing munin-node 1.2.6-13ubuntu1 I receive these errors

Initializing plugins..Restarting munin-node.. * Stopping Munin-Node
[ OK ]
 * Starting Munin-Node

# Got junk from postgres_space_: BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at
/usr/share/munin/plugins/postgres_space_ line 74.
failed.
done.
 * Starting Munin-Node

It seems as if munin tries to autoconfigure the plugin postgres_space_,
which is far from optimal considering that libdbd-pg-perl is only a
Suggested package.

This is basically the same problem as was fixed in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=503294. Yet somehow the
autoconf abilities for postgres_space_ specifically got activated again
somewhere between munin 1.2.6-10 and munin 1.2.6-13 (Those were the
versions I managed to find at ftp.debian.org).

Anyway, this can be fixed by modifying debian/patches/160-node.d
-postgres-plugins.patch, finding the lone line which says
"capabilities=autoconf suggest" and change that part to
"capabilities=suggest".

[Bug 403599] Re: Installing PHP5 performs a reload to apache instead of a restart

2009-08-15 Thread Andreas Olsson
Noticed a rather significant historical detail...

The construction of using "invoke-rc.d apache2 force-reload" in
libapache2-mod-php5.postinst originates from at least back in 2004. At
that time (well, actually didn't go further back than Ubuntu 6.06)
/etc/init.d/apache2 had force-reload as being equivalent to to restart.
Today, at least from Ubuntu 8.04 and forward, /etc/init.d/apache2 has
force-reload instead acting as merely a reload. In other words, it seems
as the original intent of the packager was to have apache2 restart
during the installation of libapache2-mod-php5, an effect which later
was lost due to the changing nature of /etc/init.d/apache2.

Also, it seems reasonable to force a restart of apache2 when libapache2
-mod-php5 to make sure it's really activated. Hence I'm attachning a
debdiff which explicitly tells invoke-rc.d to restart apache2.

That said, we might not want to have apache2 automatically restart at
every php5 upgrade, and by that potentially disturbing a live website.
Especially not since we've been gracefully reloading now for a while.
Hence the debdiff also libapache2-mod-php5.postinst to differ between
doing a restart on installation and merely reloading on an upgrade.

No matter what I still wanted to tie the reports together somehow.

[Bug 403599] Re: Installing PHP5 performs a reload to apache instead of a restart

2009-08-15 Thread Andreas Olsson
Discovered something rather interesting/confusing...

First I did a rebuild of php5, modifying libapache2-mod-php5.postinst to
make it abort (exit 1) just before it had time to run its invoke-rc.d
apache2 force-reload.

Turned out that after installation the new packages, and having
libapache2-mod-php5 abort during postinst, I had to run "invoke-rc.d
apache2 force-reload" twice before apache2 would parse php files. If I
instead used "invoke-rc.d apache2 restart", then once was enough.

I guess that kind of goes along with my observation in the previous
comment. Then there was one reload during the postinst and yet another
manually afterwards; still two reloads in other words.

Still, kind of confused by my finding. Why would one reload differ from
two reloads?

Would be nice to see if anyone could try to verify my results.
