[Bug 1483751] Re: Issues traversing a sftp server when files or folders contain the character ]

2015-08-11 Thread Shane O'Sullivan
** Description changed:

I am unsure if the bug is with openssh sftp client or within openssh-
  sftp-server

When traversing an sftp server, I encounter issues for files and, in
particular, directories containing the character ]. Tab completion
- does not escape the character, however, if I cd into a directory that
+ does not escape the character in sftp shell, however, in bash it will
+ escape the character for tab completion. If I cd into a directory that
contains the character I cannot get any files with in that directory and
I have to rename the directory outside of the sftp shell to remove the
character in order to be able to correctly get files.

  Ex:

  sftp cd Movie\ \[1080p]/
  sftp ls
- Movie.1080p.mp4
+ Movie.1080p.mp4
  sftp get Movie.1080p.mp4
  File /home/hitsuji/movies/Movie [1080p]/Movie.1080p.mp4 not found.

[Bug 1434309] [NEW] Template Tag _DATE_ broken in 3.4.0

2015-03-19 Thread Shane Williams
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, using spamassassin 3.4.0-1ubuntu2.

If the _DATE_ Template Tag is used in a header or report, it returns an
incorrect date (usually well in the past). Obviously not critical, but
having this date greatly simplifies finding the log entries for a
particular piece of email. It cculd also be confusing to users who look
at full headers.

For full information, see the upstream bug at:
https://bz.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=7050

[Bug 1218727] Re: package clamav-base 0.97.8+dfsg-1ubuntu1.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-03-03 Thread Shane Williams
This error still exists in Ubuntu 14.04 with clamav-base-0.98.6.

Furthermore, the recommended workaround (remove --purge clamav-base)
only works if the clamav user is a local user. If clamav comes from NIS
(or, I presume, LDAP), there is no workaround, making clamav
uninstallable from the official package.

Suggested patch attached

** Patch added: ubuntu.14.04.clamav-base.patch

[Bug 1034454] Re: 12.04 Dist-upgrade breaks PHP extensions pdo_mysql.so symbols

2015-02-08 Thread Shane Hollis
for what it's worth. I ran into a similar problem.
The pdo.ini file was missing but had a pdo_mysql.ini file.
Added a pdo.ini file, pointed it at pdo.so and everything worked.

/etc/php5/cli/conf.d# cat pdo.ini
; configuration for php MySQL module
extension=pdo.so

[Bug 1329939] [NEW] Service ssh stop/start/restart hangs

2014-06-13 Thread Shane Chambers
Public bug reported:

When using service ssh, all of the actions cause the service process
to hang, with varying results on the sshd process.

root@localdev14:~# ps -ef | grep ssh
root 28264 1 0 15:39 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -D
root 28353 28264 0 15:46 ?00:00:00 sshd: user [priv]

root 28433 28418 0 15:47 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto ssh
root@localdev14:~# service ssh stop

root 28444 28418 0 15:48 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto ssh

A trace on /usr/sbin/service shows that it's hanging at /sbin/stop;

root@localdev14:~# bash -x /usr/sbin/service ssh stop 21 | tee
/tmp/ssh.restart
++ basename /usr/sbin/service

root 28478 28418 0 15:54 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto sshd

Restarting the service gets a different error;

root@localdev14:~# bash -x /usr/sbin/service ssh restart 21 | tee
/tmp/ssh.restart
++ basename /usr/sbin/service

root 28495 28418 0 15:56 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto sshd

As you can see from the PID, the sshd service was in fact not stopped.

If you kill the sshd manually, and try to use the service command to
start the process, that hangs as well, although the process is actually
started;

root@localdev14:~# bash -x /usr/sbin/service ssh start 21 | tee /tmp/ssh.start
++ basename /usr/sbin/service
+ VERSION='service ver. 0.91-ubuntu1'
++ basename /usr/sbin/service

--full-restart ] ]'
+ SERVICE=

+ SERVICEDIR=/etc/init.d
+ OPTIONS=
+ '[' 2 -eq 0 ']'
+ cd /
+ '[' 2 -gt 0 ']'
+ case ${1} in
+ '[' -z '' -a 2 -eq 1 -a ssh = --status-all ']'
+ '[' 2 -eq 2 -a start = --full-restart ']'
+ '[' -z '' ']'
+ SERVICE=ssh
+ shift
+ '[' 1 -gt 0 ']'
+ case ${1} in
+ '[' -z ssh -a 1 -eq 1 -a start = --status-all ']'
+ '[' 1 -eq 2 -a '' = --full-restart ']'
+ '[' -z ssh ']'
+ '[' -z '' ']'
+ ACTION=start
+ shift
+ '[' 0 -gt 0 ']'
+ '[' -r /etc/init/ssh.conf ']'
+ which initctl
+ initctl version
+ grep -q upstart
+ case ${ACTION} in
+ exec start ssh
^C
root@localdev14:~# ps -ef | grep sshd
root 28353 1 0 15:46 ?00:00:00 sshd: user [priv]
user 28402 28353 0 15:46 ?00:00:00 sshd: user@pts/0
root 28510 1 0 15:58 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -D
root 28515 28418 0 15:59 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto sshd

I've been able to reproduce this problem both after a reboot, and from the
console, with no user sshd process running.

On a side note, the sshd_config file appears to be sane. At least no
errors are being presented, so I don't believe this is OpenSSH related.

[Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang

2013-06-18 Thread Shane Meyers
Installing the patched version of memory.rb from
https://github.com/puppetlabs/facter/commit/9ff4453b2f0843df887ae1ec2098a4336291df0c
helped reduce the number of puppet hangs that we experience, but we were
still getting hung processes. Attaching strace to a hung puppet
process showed a constant output of the following lines repeated:

31024 futex(0x7f96be6ed5b0, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 0
31024 futex(0x7f96be6ed584, FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET_PRIVATE|FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME,
231453, {1371588406, 113327589}, ) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)
31024 clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME, {1371588406, 113578908}) = 0
31024 futex(0x7f96be6ed5b0, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 0
31024 futex(0x7f96be6ed584, FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET_PRIVATE|FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME,
231455, {1371588406, 123578908}, ) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)
31024 clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME, {1371588406, 123789011}) = 0

It turns out that puppet isn't actually hung, but is waiting forever for
the futex() call to stop timing out.

Once I copied in the patched processor.rb from the same git changeset
linked above, the hang problem stopped occurring for us. So from my
perspective, both memory.pp and processor.rb need to be patched in the
puppet 1.6.5 (precise) package.

[Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang

2013-06-12 Thread Shane Meyers
It would be fantastic if we could get memory.rb back ported to Precise,
as this is really irritating to need to maintain a separate copy of
memory.rb. Without the patched version, we experience many hangs per
day with 'puppet apply' running via cron. Surprising to see a hang bug
remain for so long with an LTS release.

[Bug 604998] Re: open-vm-tools (CLI tools) recommends gui tools

2011-10-20 Thread Shane Madden
I am going to assume that most people who use Ubuntu on a VMware
product will be using the Desktop version, not the server.

Sorry, but this is not the case at all - VMware's primary products are
their server offerings, and those of us running linux servers outside of
an education setting do so overwhelmingly with no desktop environment.

While it's obviously up to Canonical and the community, I don't believe
that making the server distribution a second class citizen by forcing
use of a source package is the right direction to take just to assuage
some potential confusion between CLI and GUI packages. As Client
pointed out in June, Software Center will happily point the user to
packages containing a .desktop file by default - what's wrong with that?

These changes, as well as Evan's in bug #391224, seem to have centered
around the assumption that VMware Tools is primarily for GUIs. I'd like
to urge you to look outside of your own use cases, please.

[Bug 776103] Re: package open-vm-dkms 2011.03.28-387002-0ubuntu2 fails to build against 2.6.39 kernels, due to missing linux/smp_lock.h

2011-10-19 Thread Shane Madden
@Nate -

I hate to rain on your parade here, as it looks like it was quite a
struggle to get everything working right for this package (and
certainly, thanks a lot for your efforts).

The introduction of X11 dependencies into what is ostensibly a CLI
package is not a good thing for those of us who have server systems
which should not have X11.

Please review bug #604998, and bug #391224 which put that situation in
place (as well as Debian bug 561639, where that change was immediately
rejected) - a --no-install-recommends workaround worked, except for
those of us who wanted to automate the install with something like
puppet.

This change, to merge the X11 support components into the CLI tools
package, has taken that situation from bad to worse, and has rendered
this package completely unusable on systems that must not have X11 - I'm
surprised that this change moved forward after bug #604998 was
confirmed. Please think of the servers!

[Bug 604998] Re: open-vm-tools (CLI tools) recommends gui tools

2011-10-19 Thread Shane Madden
See bug #776103 (and my comment on it). The toolbox package was
removed, so X11-related components (and all the dependencies that come
with them) were merged into this package - the description for which is
still (CLI tools).

Currently, this package is not usable on server systems which must not
have X11 installed. Definitely would be nice to see this fixed for
12.04..

[Bug 604998] Re: open-vm-tools (CLI tools) recommends gui tools

2011-10-19 Thread Shane Madden
@Nate,

Yeah, a number of the added depends and recommends lead back to X stuff.
Here's the added ones that do, as far as I can tell:

- Requires:
libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0
libgtk2.0-0
libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a
libice6
libx11-6
libxcomposite1
libxext6
libxi6
libxinerama1
libxrandr2
libxss1
libxtst6
- Recommends:
xauth
xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse
xserver-xorg-video-vmware

I think a separate package is probably how this needs to end up, I
agree. I'm not sure if it could be purely a dummy package - would any
of this stuff brought in from the old toolbox package cause problems on
a system with no X11 present? (Heck, if they don't, then a single
unified package would work just fine.)

/etc/vmware-tools/xautostart.conf
/etc/xdg/autostart/vmware-user.desktop
/usr/bin/vmware-xdg-detect-de
/usr/lib/open-vm-tools/plugins/vmusr/libdesktopEvents.so
/usr/lib/open-vm-tools/plugins/vmusr/libdndcp.so
/usr/lib/open-vm-tools/plugins/vmusr/libresolutionSet.so
/usr/lib/open-vm-tools/plugins/vmusr/libunity.so

The best 'shape' of that eventual solution as far as packages and their
names, I'm not sure on.

open-vm-tools for CLI // open-vm-tools-gui for GUI
open-vm-tools for CLI // open-vm-toolbox for GUI
open-vm-tools-cli for CLI // open-vm-tools for GUI
open-vm-tools-cli for CLI // open-vm-tools-gui for GUI
open-vm-tools-nox for CLI // open-vm-tools for GUI

I'm really not sure what naming scheme would be the most Ubuntu-
appropriate, but I'd personally have no complaint with any of those
variants.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: nis

I have a need to include as server-side map in a local map so that I can
make some local overrides (in this case the home directory). This works
in CentOS 4.7, but not in Ubuntu, so I know it's possible to do with
NIS.

/etc/auto.home
userfolder -rw,soft,intr :/localhome/userfolder
+auto.company_home

This doesn't work. I only get userfolder showing up in my /home
folder and none of the 50+ entries that are in the auto.home map on the
NIS server. the userfolder entry overrides an entry in the server-
side map, instead pointing the user's home folder to a local folder
rather than an NIS share.

Status in autofs package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: autofs

I have the following configuration that works on a CentOS 4 machine, but
not in Ubuntu.

Inside the file /etc/auto.master:
/home file:/etc/auto.home --ghost

Inside the file /etc/auto.home:
localuser -rw,soft,intr :/home.local:
+auto.company_home

The auto.company_home share in NIS:
snip
localhost -rw,soft,intr server:/home.local: snip

The purpose is to have the localuser's home folder get overridden on
just ONE machine and work with the defaults on all the other machines.
This configuration works in CentOS:

CentOS automount version 4.1.3-234
Ubuntu automount version 4.1.4

The configurations are identical. I've read that + entries work in the
auto.master, but do they not work in other files? The result of the
above configuration will show the local /etc/auto.home entries, but all
the NIS auto.company_home entries are absent.

[Bug 28706] Re: need way to specify the lockd port

2009-09-16 Thread Shane Rice
Ok, after playing around with this, I'm getting there. I want to
document this here, so at least others and even myself can benefit from
this in the future. I added this line: options lockd nlm_udpport=4045
nlm_tcpport=4045to  /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf  the port number
can really be anything. Then I reboot and run rpcinfo -p which shows
that nlockmgr is bound to that port number, and we are one step closer.
However mountd still comes up with random port to use, and firewall is
still blocking us out. How do we bind the mountd port? I think status
may play a part in this too. When we are done with this I will have
learned enough to write up a small how to. :)

[Bug 28706] Re: need way to specify the lockd port

2009-09-15 Thread Shane Rice
This is still a very relevant problem. I'm working on Ubuntu Jaunty,
and cannot get NFS to connect through an iptables firewall because the
ports keep changing. The changing ports are: nlockmgr and mountd, I
don't know if status has to do with this or not, but this is a problem.
All the links I have found to bind nfslockmgr (or nfs in general) tell
you to edit files that don't exist on Ubuntu. A search for nfs-utils in
the repos, comes up vacant. Any advances made on this would be
appreciated. If I can supply any information, please let me know.

2009-09-15 Thread Shane Rice
@DaneM - Thanks for the info, I didn't realize the old info was still
good to go by.

It would be good to have something up on the Ubuntu docs page, that is
usually where I look for info. If someone could write up a short how
to, that would be great, at least the info would be out there and
available to everyone.

[Bug 28706] Re: need way to specify the lockd port

2009-09-15 Thread Shane Rice
My first attempt gave me this:
sudo modprobe lockd
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.conf line 1: ignoring bad line starting with
'lockd.nlm_udpport=4001'
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong
into /etc/modprobe.d/.

So instead of using modprobe.conf, I used /etc/modprob.d/lockd.conf

It still complains about this:
sudo modprobe lockd
WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/lockd.conf line 2: ignoring bad line starting with
'lockd.nlm_udpport=4001'

I made my first line: #lockd options.

Not sure if this is relevant, but reporting any way.

Seems to be a good patch. No typos and has a clear message.
