2018-06-11 Thread erich
Hi Pete,

I went to look for the non-PDF version you had linked (https://drive.go
ogle.com/open?id=1S5reUE9H0STDpo2zkHczsNseNBLinHul%E2%80%8B) and it's
coming up with a 404 (not found) error. Basically, I need the upload
the screencaps you made as pictures to be referenced in the wiki pages.
I can't really do that in a PDF.

Anyhow, it's amazing work and really should be published at least as a
PDF or ebook. Once you have cover art, we can upload PDF or ebook to
the Wiki for anyone to download. And, with every release, we can
publish a new revision of the PDF or ebook to the site using the
content from the living Wiki as it is updated.

That said, if it ended up on Amazon, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only
person to purchase it. :)

2018-06-11 Thread Peter Reppert
Thanks, Erich.

I noticed that the handbook was on the agenda for Saturday's meeting, which
was why I had hoped to join the discussion.
As you could tell from the original PDF version, I was thinking about
selling it at first, and even sent a proposal version to some publishers.
They all felt it was too much of a niche market, or Linux/Open Source just
wasn't quite their line, and a couple recommended putting it for sale on
Amazon, which I almost did. As I've made it public domain under a
non-commercial license, I'm sure if it winds up somewhere online, it will
be kept free as intended. It felt like the right thing to do, and the book
will be much the better for the crowd-sourcing effect.

I had a working package that just needed some further work to comply
with Debian Policy here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~rosco2/+git/carla

Feel free to start from there, and push updates to somewhere else. A new
version of Carla has been release since then, so step 1 would be to
import the latest version.

Let me know if there are any questions. I can sponsor the upload into
Debian when it is ready.

Cheers,

Ross
