Busy box question

2010-12-16 Thread Venugopal AK
I have recently installed Ubuntu Studio 10.10. On logging in it goes a terminal
showing busy box.
If I repeatedly type in "exit" X-window system is started. What shall I do to
permanently stop the busy box from interfering with the running of X-window ?

Thank you Brian.
I have read that not exist a realtime kernel (or low latency) for Maverick.
What kernel I have to install?

The main Ubuntu Studio packages you will want to install are:

ubuntustudio-audio
ubuntustudio-audio-plugins
ubuntustudio-video
ubuntustudio-graphics

That is really all there is to it. As Mike says, you can use Synaptic
Package Manager (found under the Administration menu) to do this. Or,
you can open up a Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins
ubuntustudio-video ubuntustudio-graphics

The rest of the ubuntustudio packages are optional, and mostly relate
to desktop theming. Once upon a time it was a bad idea to try to
install the Studio theme on a vanilla Ubuntu install, but I think that
is no longer the case.

If you want specialized kernels (and you probably do if you plan to
work with audio), at this point you will need to add Alessio's PPA to
your software archives. You can find out more about that here:

PPS:

Instead of Google, did you test the package search?

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/totem-plugins

Totem-plugins seems not to be, what you're looking for. I wonder which
player is called Movie player?

you could let me know exactly how the goal of ubuntustudio was not clear to
you from what you read on the site. ubuntustudio cant include any codecs or
abilities to play files/formats that normal ubuntu does not include by
default. the idea of ubuntustudio is more for creation of content (making
your own music, graphics, video, etc...) rather than playing any and all
content. it might be that the ubuntustudio site needs to make that more
clear, helping make it known that its more of a multimedia creation OS than
an OS you would run on your TV as a media center to play music and videos
(not that you cannot add that functionality easily with the suggestions in
this thread). have a look at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats to more understand why
ubuntu does not include these abilities in the operating system 'out of the
box'. thanks.

i would suggest opening a package manager (synaptic, or whatever your
comfortable with) and search ubuntustudio... there you will see all the
meta-packages that are included in ubuntustudio, and you can read about what
they are, and what they do, and ask about a specific one here if you dont

not in ubuntustudio, but i would not worry about those... i usually install

Check out this:

Quote from that page:

"To play DVDs, you also need to install libdvdcss by opening a terminal
and entering the following in addition to installing the restricted
extras package:

  sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
