Btw. one of those documentations can be found here:

http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1955

I didn't use this howto, since I test it on Arch first and likely I
won't continue to install it to Ubuntu Studio, but remove it from
Arch ;). When I get one issue solved for mate, there will appear two new
issues ;). That the "script" calls other software than mate "BLOATWARE"
is ridiculous. It's worth the effort to take a look at Mate, but _keep_
Xfce and _backup_ Ubuntu Studio first.

You can use Synaptic to do it, I'm not booted to Ubuntu now, so I can't
explain how to do it, search the menus, I guess it's self explaining.

You also can use an editor, e.g.

sudo gedit

or if available better

gksudo gedit

Use the "#" to uncomment an entry, an example:

Enabled:

deb http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring main restricted

Disabled, resp. uncommented:

# deb http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring main restricted

Everything behind a "#" is only a comment.

Perhaps (likely) "partner" or (less likely) "restricted" cause the
warnings.

PPA repositories' lines are not in /etc/apt/sources.list. They are, as
plain text files, ending with ".list" under the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
directory.

A more appropiate command to see the repos is:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

Or, to print just the active repos (all of them), filter out the lines that
are commented out:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* | grep -v "#"

You can comment out lines if you edit these files but I suggest you should
use Software Center or Synaptic to enable / disable repos.

In my experience, multiverse and universe are trustworthy repos and most
PPA's too. That said, I disable PPA's after installing some packages that I
want to have more up to date.

Re: [ubuntu-studio-users] Mate

2013-08-21 Thread Ralf Mardorf
Ouch!

MATE is buggy, even saving some basic settings doesn't work, unchecked
startup applications e.g. will be automagically checked again.

There's no user mailing list and there seem to be no experts in the
forums.

http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1964#p6441
http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1961

And than there are the conflicting packages, so I do understand that it
is neither in Ubuntu's nor in Arch's official repositories.

In theory a nice DE, in practice it is like the Windows DE.

It's not that resource hungry as Cinnamon is, but it's inappropriate to
replace Xfce.

Ralf

[ubuntu-studio-users] Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS Testing

2013-08-21 Thread Ho Wan Chan
Dear Ubuntu Studio Developers, Contributors and users,

Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS point release is planned for release on
Thursday, 22nd August, 2013. Now, I would like to invite you to test
the images before the release happens.

The images are currently available at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/precise/dvd/current/

The testcases are available at:

amd64: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/301/builds/51842/testcases
i386: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/301/builds/51843/testcases

All testcases are required to be done and pass in order for the Ubuntu
Studio Release Team to release the image. Report the results of your
testing at the above testcase links.

Follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Walkthrough to learn how to
test an image. Report any bugs via Launchpad, and note down of the bug
number in your submitted result.

Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS will be just a point release of Ubuntu
Studio 12.04 LTS, with stable release updates available pre-installed.

Thank you for your time and effort in testing such images.

[ubuntu-studio-users] Disply getting blurred after a couple of hours.

2013-08-21 Thread Abhayadev S
Hi,

I am using an NVIDIA 9500 GT card and in windows it works well. Here my
main display is on the DVI output and i use the VGA(from card and not the
one onboard) output as secondary screen. On cold start the displays are
fine and may be after a couple of hours the display starts cloudy/blurred
and the Ardour/other desktop window header are not clear to read. Is this a
driver issue or it could be of GFx card issue? I have tried both drivers
from NVIDIA and restricted drivers also.

The card is 3 years old now and Ubuntu Studio version i use is 12.04.2
32bit.
The desktop is Core2Duo 1386 configuration.
