Ouch! MATE is buggy, even saving some basic settings doesn't work, unchecked startup applications e.g. will be automagically checked again.

In theory a nice DE, in practice it is like the Windows DE. It's not that resource hungry as Cinnamon is, but it's inappropriate to replace Xfce.
