If someone makes an error similar to yours, they normally get stubborn and end up being self-exiled from the project (purely because no-one then listens to them, and they make a few enemies). I like the flames better - that's what I voted for, most people like "Lights" better, so it was decided that it would be the default - I am not complaining, because I know I have the choice to change it back to "Flame" once it comes out. I disagree. You can never please everyone, especially if you have so many people all with different opinions. Some guidelines have to be set. I think that having a choice is always better then having no say in the matter. Besides, in his post to this very topic he explained why they had to go this route. And I must say, I like the direction they're going for v3 but these things take time. So Cory, I would still like it if you asked this list for its opinion. Btw, if it hurts your eyes so bad, just use your own theme. That's the fun thing about open-source software. If you don't like something you have the ability to change it. It depends on how you have the dual-head system setup. If you use xinerama you will have a panel in both. The fact that it works for you doesn't mean it works for all. We have asked around and most people get rid of one of the bars at the end of install. Anyway, as you mention you can get rid of one if you want to... you can add one as easily if you want to. The wallpaper will be added, you were choosing the default one. The gdm is different, not as easy to change by the user. First, thank-you for letting us vote. I'm going to have to say lights. I also want to state that I much preferred version 0.4 of both ubuntustudio-gdm-theme and ubuntustudio-theme as well as usplash-theme-ubuntustudio version 0.7 then I do the current gutsy versions. With this theme I also used the following as my background. (although a higher resolution of the same would be much better) http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/?content=58281 I think this combination makes a very nice and professional looking theme. I think one of the best and most consistent of any OS. I particularly liked the shiny look of the panel and title bar. Not to mention the consistency in colors between the wallpaper, theme, GDM theme, icons and usplash etc. I just wanted to state that I greatly enjoyed the direction the artwork was going in the examples given above, and am much less enthralled with the new style. Just my two cents and what would be my ultimate Ubuntu Studio theme and/or artwork direction. Choose gutsy's ubuntu studio art (FINAL)
Ok everyone. From the chat here and forum votes its clear that "lights" is the preference. So that it. ;) I will now take this chance to explain the art. I'm sure many will hate the art vs. Feisty's but oh well. Everyone's a critic. We lost our lead artist mid-way through the development cycle. We had a design direction that also suffered because of this. We called for another art lead but nobody stepped up. Its now open to the community here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/OfficialHardyIncoming So with v2's idea being moved to v3 we had to scramble to put another idea in place. What will ship with Gutsy is the result. The gloss is gone. Everyone loved it but it's being done to death and we are moving away from it to create something really unique for Hardy. So while people wont like it, ultimately, it's the tools that matter. ;) So everyone get prepared to contribute to Hardy. We'll be posting alot to -devel and all constructive chat is welcome. While we are talking about art, The boot splash in studio's 'feisty' release was great, except for the blurry lights, which didn't keep with the more professional desktop theme. I often have been tempted to try and go through the motions of editing out the lights from that boot splash and putting it back in. (although the task seems a little daunting to me!) I don't wish to offend by my comments, and I wish I was able to contribute in a more productive way than by criticism. Thank you for your hard work and continued efforts and for giving us a chance to voice our choice.
