[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 867885] Re: ibus character selection window not drawn

2011-10-19 Thread Ray Wang
In unity 4.22.0-0ubuntu3, the character selection window will not
disappear, but the problem is the letters you have input in the dash
should be displayed. In this case, "zhong", the pinyin letter for "中"
should be placed in the dash search bar.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 867885] Re: ibus character selection window not drawn

2011-10-19 Thread Ding Zhou
Hello all,

I've enabled the oneiric-proposed to verify this issue.

The behavior of backspace, left and down keys of ibus in Unity search
is all working now, just like in normal gtk application like gedit.

Thank you very much for the fix!

Bug description:
Because of moving a lot of translations and spell-checking
functionality from language-support-xxx packages to language-selector,
users currently installing Ubuntu 9.10 are getting inferior experience
compared with 9.04. The installer does not anymore install many
translations, help files or in some cases spell-checkers. Launching
language-selector manually after installation works as it should, but
I assume only a minority of ordinary users will manually open the
utility before getting a bad experience.

I also argue that any notification that would be displayed (currently
it seems not, tested on daily 20090921 image in virtualbox) will not
get the wanted "click me" effect for enough users, so only a truly
automatic way would be needed to match Ubuntu 9.04. It should also be
error-proof, so it's not just a one-time tryout after installation
which would fail in case of no Internet connectivity etc.

Specifically in case of Finnish, because of how bug #409764 was
handled (dependency removed from language-support-writing-fi, moved to
manual checking in language-selector), Finnish users of 9.10 are
currently missing out the most important part of spell-checking - the
one in OpenOffice.org. Also missing is Firefox spell-checking, in
addition to the documentation etc. common to all languages.

My completely-idea-level proposal (without full knowledge of possible
discussions/plans behind this move in 9.10) would be:
  a) Installer would co-operate with language-selector to install everything
during installation time, if Internet connection happens to be enabled
(something like language-selector --fix-missing)
  b) After installation, update-manager (?) would make certain the whole
language support is downloaded together with first updates succesfully (one
time, but so that it ends in non-error)

In theory I like how language-selector is used to keep sure of proper
language support, but IMHO proper co-operation between installer and
update-manager (just one candidate) plus language-selector is needed.

So the question also is - against which packages this bug should be
filed. Language-selector could need some new functionality, but maybe
it's all there already ready to be used by other applications.
  Ubiquity? Update-manager?

Status in Ubuntu Translations:

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Most toolkits properly deal with right-to-left, properly inverting the
  UI.

When doing ISO testing, I noticed it's not quite the case for lightdm
and unity, here are some notes of the inconsistencies I noticed:

  = Unity =
  - Launcher is on the left, identical to a left-to-right system
  - Indicators are on the right, identical to a left-to-right system

  = lightdm =
  - User switcher is on the left, identical to a left-to-right system
  - Indicators are on the left, different from a left-to-right system

I'm not sure what's the best as I'm not a right-to-left user myself, but we
should either have Unity also invert its UI, making it consistent with what's
done in lightdm's panel. Then change lightdm to have the user list on the right.

Or if using the same UI as for left-to-right is OK and is what want,
then lightdm's panel should be changed to be consistent with Unity's.

The dialog that comes up if you right-click on the default keyring and

Not all of those strings are translated, albeit them being already

Seahorse is at versione 3.1.92, gnome-keyring at version 3.1.92.

with the upstream gnome-help from jhbuild. I'll forward this to
upstream, thanks for catching.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 760512] Re: Chromium's LP translations overwritten by imports

2011-10-19 Thread Данило Шеган
Launchpad bug is a duplicate of bug 818230 (or maybe of bug 869264,
depending on your view). Since I can't mark only a single bug task as
such, I am marking the Launchpad bug as "Invalid". If you want to make
this a bug duplicate of any of the existing bugs, feel free to do so and
create new bug tasks on them.

In Finnish translation, import always overwrites changes made in
Launchpad. This has been happening for a while (many weeks) now.

Import basically sets LP changes as suggestions. These changes are
mostly corrections to translation bugs which have been marked as new
for years on Google's issues tracker.

The following strings are great examples of this problem:

  253
  774
  1049
  1197
  1211
  1735
  2146

This bug basically makes corrections useless as they are always

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 539974] Re: Some italian translations need to be corrected

2011-10-19 Thread Milo Casagrande
Totally forgot to close this one:
- the apt part has been fixed upstream and is in Ubuntu too
- the gnupg part has been fixed only in Ubuntu since 11.04 I think, but the
whole translation should be sent upstream

Ciao.

Status in Ubuntu Software Center:
  New
Status in Ubuntu Translations:

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Software Center should indicate whether software is translated for
example by including a small flag icon. This way non-English-speaking
users can see if the application is available in their local language
when it contains a translated package description. Otherwise,
translated package descriptions might mislead the user to believe the
application is available in his/her local language.

  http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/27948/

  See also bug 706571.

Some use cases this would fix:

   a) non-english user clicks on a program name to see more info, sees
the description in English and assumes the program is not translated
and therefore doesn't install it, even though it might be translated
   into his native tongue.

   b) non-english user finds a program with a translated description,
installs it only to find out the program itself is not translated and
is therefore no use to him/her.

   c) user wants to install a music player in his native language. When
searching for "music player" in the software center 10 hits appear but
the user cannot filter the programs translated into his native tongue
and therefore has to use trial and error.

   d) a one line description (po-app-install data) is translated, but
description (ddtp-ubuntu) is not or vice versa. User is just confused.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 550707] Re: Ubuntu and Kubuntu installation include download of additional language-packages after install completed

2011-10-19 Thread David Planella
Reading the description, I'm not sure I understand the bug. Would
someone affected mind changing it to reflect exactly what the bug is
about?

Ideally, with a set of steps to reproduce it.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 760512] Re: Chromium's LP translations overwritten by imports

2011-10-19 Thread David Planella
I'm marking it as Invalid for the Ubuntu Translations project, as
Chromium's translations are handled in Launchpad's upstream project, but
not in the Ubuntu packages. In Ubuntu we can currently only translate
packages from the main repository, and Chromium is in universe.

However, the chromium-browser bug is still valid. I'm also adding a task
for Launchpad do keep track of it.

  253
  774
  1049
  1197
  1211
  1735
  2146

This bug basically makes corrections useless as they are always
  overwritten.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 539974] Re: Some italian translations need to be corrected

2011-10-19 Thread David Planella
Is this still an issue in Ubuntu 11.10?

I see there are several translation issues pointed out in the
description. If any of them is still present, I'd recommend filing
separate bugs for each one of them.

The listing of programs right now is sorted by name. But it seems to
sort by character code (i.e. strcmp). You can see this falling down
when there are accents in the program name.

I propose that it should instead sort using the unicode algorithm for
sorting in a locale-sensitive way. Different languages have very
  different sorting rules.

I recently did this with the Ubuntu installer ubiquity, and found the
python wrapper for libicu to be useful (python-pyicu). It can be used
to generate collation keys for a given key in a given locale.
