Bug description:
There are some .js files which contain strings marked for translation,

This is because gettext does not support JavaScript, and thus .js

[FFe]: Update rhythmbox from 2.97 to 2.98

Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  New
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
A bunch of bugs were fixed in the new rhythmbox release but it's not
purely a bugfix release. Rhythmbox now doesn't use the musicbrainz
library but accesses musicbrainz directly. The grilo plugin change
doesn't affect us as we don't yet build Rhythmbox with grilo support.

I have run the new rhythmbox and things seemed to work.

Build log attached and my packaging branch.

  http://worldofgnome.org/rhythmbox-2-98-has-been-released/
  http://git.gnome.org/browse/rhythmbox/tree/NEWS

Overview of changes in Rhythmbox 2.98 "Faults"
  ===

  * New dialog for importing music into the library
  * New audio CD metadata lookup library, replacing libmusicbrainz
  * Improved transitions between album art images
  * Nautilus cluebar buttons now result in the right source
  being selected
  * Update notification buttons when playback state changes
  * Grilo plugin ported to grilo 0.2 API
  * Search musicbrainz for album art by album and artist name
  * Love/ban buttons visible in last.fm/libre.fm sources

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1064876] Re: Quantal's slides during the installation is not fully localized while choosing Simple Chinese as the installation language

2012-10-10 Thread Victor Zhou
Verified with the latest build(20121010), and can not find this issue.
I guess the change does not start to affect in the 20121009 build, and it does
in build 20121010.
We can set it to fix released now.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1061489] Re: Add a button "Translate this description" to crowdsource Package translations

2012-10-10 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
Clever. If there is a reason many translators do not complete
description translations, is simply because Launchpad timeouts a lot.
Also, many teams are overwhelmed with translation suggestions they need
to check and approve (or disapprove, as many of these suggestions are
low-quality).

Relying solely on translators doesn't scale. Would it be possible to add a
mechanism to enable translation suggestion crowdsourcing ?

The basic idea would be a button to "Translate this software
description" below each untranslated description that would enable
users to easily provide a translation suggestion to the DDTP, either
  inline, or using Launchpad.

Bug description:
Currently unity-firefox-extension is only set up for translations in
  the upstream project [1]

It needs to also be set up for translations in the source package [2]
as any other Ubuntu translatable package. Not being there means there
is no visibility from translators. Ubuntu Translators do their work on
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal rather than on every separate
  project (*)

Right now, due to this reduced visibility it is only fully translated
into one language and partially into 2 other. I didn't even know it
  existed.

So please, ensure that the package creates a .pot file during the
build (e.g. with dh-translations), so that translations can be
imported and exposed into Launchpad. In terms of shipping the
translations, I haven't looked at the code, but I'm guessing that it
being a Mozilla extension, we'll need to manually merge them in the
package. Otherwise, we can just export them in the language packs.

Let me know if I can help in anything.

pretty difficult to keep track of individual upstreams unless they are
part of a big project (e.g. GNOME)

Hi Dylan, you're pointing to the Traditional Chinese translation, which
is indeed incomplete.

However, the report is for the Simplified Chinese translation [1], which
is complete and was finished before the deadline.

The bug did puzzle me when I first saw it, as:

- The zh_CN translation was complete before the deadline (finished on
  the 8th IIRC)
- There was a slideshow upload right after that, including translations
  (on the 9th)

Victor, could you try again with a daily ISO, to see if the issue has
been fixed?

Thanks.

I don't know if it can be updated at this point, but it does affect

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1057767] Re: Translations are not in sync with Gnome, leading to duplication of effort

2012-10-10 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
I'm pretty sure there are more packages affected then just Evolution and
Orca. For example I see this issue with »gtk-3.0-properties« [1]. This
is fully translated to German upstream in version 3.0 as well as in
later versions.

Wondering whether it might affect other GNOME packages and even other kind of
packages.
Despite our best effort to educate about duplication and upstream
contribution, people are redoing the work on LP, so a proper and frequent sync
is essential (now and for the next cycle)

Hm, the source package template was not uploaded until the 26th Sept and
hadn't been approved. Apologies for having not seen it until now, but I
kept checking for i18n on webapps every now and then and hadn't realized
they were i18n'd until now.

In any case, what this means is that this source package was not visible
to Ubuntu translators until now. Translation was enabled on the upstream
package [1], but that did not get much visibility and only contains 2
full translations (French and Arabic).

Would it be possible to give translators a day or two and then do a
translations-only upload?

Thanks.

Bug description:
Currently unity-firefox-extension is only set up for translations in
  the upstream project [1]

It needs to also be set up for translations in the source package [2]
as any other Ubuntu translatable package. Not being there means there
is no visibility from translators. Ubuntu Translators do their work on
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal rather than on every separate
  project (*)

Right now, due to this reduced visibility it is only fully translated
into one language and partially into 2 other. I didn't even know it
  existed.

So please, ensure that the package creates a .pot file during the
build (e.g. with dh-translations), so that translations can be
imported and exposed into Launchpad. In terms of shipping the
translations, I haven't looked at the code, but I'm guessing that it
being a Mozilla extension, we'll need to manually merge them in the
package. Otherwise, we can just export them in the language packs.

Let me know if I can help in anything.

  [2] https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/unity-firefox-extension

(*) Admittedly some teams do translate projects upstream, but it is
pretty difficult to keep track of individual upstreams unless they are
part of a big project (e.g. GNOME)

2012-10-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ah, the translations were split across two lines. Ok I just pushed
another correction.

By the way, those numbers (1523, 2322, etc) don't mean anything to me.
Below the string on translations.launchpad.net, there is a "Located in
C/legal.xml:3(license/p)" line; mentioning that the problem is in
legal.xml is helpful. Otherwise, I can just use grep to find the string.

  Desired solution:

  - For languages that have on average longer words than English (e.g. German)
The 'Ubuntu Condensed' font should be used in place of the regular font.
  - Adapt copywriting to user shorter words and abbreviations where possible.
Also in some cases international words can be used, e.g. "Rock" or "Punk"

Bug description:
The current webapp for Gmail adds entries in the Launcher and
Messaging Indicator to compose new messages and to display the Inbox
  count.

These entries are in English and need to be localizable.

  This means:

  1. Marking the strings for translation in the script (it seems they already
are)
  2. Initialize gettext in the code, using the correct translation domain
  3. Getting the build system to extract those strings and put them on a
gettext translation template (.pot) file using dh_translations
  4. Add 'X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes' to debian/control's source record
  5. Get the translations loaded on the desktop at runtime.

1 to 4 are I believe fairly trivial (although I haven't looked in
detail at the code and the packaging). For 5. someone on the Desktop
or Webapps team will probably have to look at how to do this, since
I'm not very familiar with how the plumbing works in terms of
integration between desktop and webapp JS scripts.

Bug description:
Ubuntu-docs in Ubuntu Quantal template ubuntu-help (rev. 12.10.3)

The page "unity-appmenu-intro" is missing in 12.10.3. It seems it was renamed
into "unity-menubar-intro".
  ~$ dpkg -L ubuntu-docs | grep unity-appmenu-intro.page -- displays nothing.

Therefore xref links were broken in some strings:

#1501 Empathy is installed by default in Ubuntu. Start Empathy
Instant Messaging from the dash, the launcher or choose Chat from the Messaging menu.

It should be "Empathy is installed by default in Ubuntu. Start
Empathy Instant Messaging from the dash, the launcher or choose Chat from the Messaging menu."

#1502 You can change your instant messaging status (Available, Away,
  Busy etc) from the Messaging
  menu.

It shoul be "You can change your instant messaging status (Available,
Away, Busy etc) from the Messaging
  menu."

  #1519 Click the Messaging menu
on the right hand side of the menu bar.

It shoul be "Click the Messaging
menu on the right hand side of the menu bar."

#1523 You can now view your social networking messages from the Messaging menu on the right hand
side of the menu bar, in the Broadcast section. Click on
any of the items in that section to open Gwibber and to
read or post messages to your social network.

It shoul be "You can now view your social networking messages from the
   Messaging menu on the right
hand side of the menu bar, in the Broadcast section. Click
on any of the items in that section to open Gwibber and to
read or post messages to your social network."

  #1663 Click the network menu
in the menu bar and select Edit Connections...

It shoul be "Click the network
menu in the menu bar and select Edit Connections..."

#2322 To log out or switch users, click the system menu at the very right of the menu bar and select
  the appropriate option.

It shoul be "To log out or switch users, click the system menu at the very right of the menu bar
  and select the appropriate option."

#2973 Get work done in style with LibreOffice 3.6, now with new,
modern presentation templates and built-in support for Ubuntu's
  integrated menu bar.

It shoul be "Get work done in style with LibreOffice 3.6, now with
new, modern presentation templates and built-in support for Ubuntu's
  integrated menu
  bar."

  Thanks.
