Thanks, Shaun,

 The top srcdir should contain a file gnome-doc-utils.make
 Line 364 should look like this:

 _DOC_POT = $(if $(DOC_MODULE),$(DOC_MODULE).pot)

 Try changing that to this:

 _DOC_POT = $(if $(DOC_MODULE),$(DOC_MODULE).pot,\
 $(if $(DOC_ID),$(DOC_ID).pot))

 That should make 'make pot' work, which is what happened
 for DocBook documents. Can somebody check to see if that's
 all that's needed?

Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place, but I don't see the
gnome-doc-utils.make file in our top level source directory. I don't see it
in the gnome-user-docs from GNOME git, though, either.

I do see:
EXTRA_DIST = gnome-doc-utils.make

DISTCLEANFILES = gnome-doc-utils.make

in the ubuntu-docs Makefile.am file, though. I'm not sure how this gets
resolved.

   We talked to Jim Campbell and decided to move the xubuntu-docs
   translations out of the Ubuntu distro series and to a separate project
   in Launchpad.

   This is due to the fact that the xubuntu-docs package is no longer in
   main, which is a requirement for translations to be there (and for
   templates to be updated upon package upload).

  Is there any possibility of an exception to this requirement in
  Launchpad? Obviously the translations are still there, they are just
  not being updated, which seems a bit silly.

 If xubuntu-docs package is well maintained, there is no reason not to
 have xubuntu-docs in main.

I think xubuntu-docs are in universe because the Xubuntu distribution (and
all Xfce packages) are in universe.

Translating Xubuntu docs

2009-03-26 Thread Jim Campbell
Hi All,

I have refreshed the .pot files that are included as part of the
documentation, and have committed those .pot file refreshes to my bzr
branch, but in examining the translations page of Xubuntu docs, it concerns
me that it looks like people are translating older versions of the
documentation. Surely it seems as though I have missed a step, but I'm
afraid that trying to navigate the myriad of launchpad / rosetta translation
pages is a bit on the confusing side.

Any issues may be due to the fact that I have been using the
xubuntu-jaunty-yelpversion branch (which was basically me starting with
current Ubuntu docs, and then modifying them to suit Xubuntu), and had
retired the xubuntu-jaunty branch.

Here is the url to the translations page that I was referencing, though:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/xubuntu-docs
Please pardon my ignorance, but I just want to make sure that translators
aren't attempting to update outdated documentation, and that end-users get
the most updated documentation possible. Thanks very much.

 The translations at Launchpad / Rosetta are only updated when you
 upload a version of xubuntu-docs package with updated .pot files
 included in the source to the Ubuntu archive.

This is very helpful, Timo. Thanks very much!

Xubuntu 9.04 documentation

2009-01-08 Thread Jim Campbell
Hi Translators!

I wanted to send out a note regarding Xubuntu documentation for the 9.04
release. For this release, Xubuntu is rebasing our documentation off of the
Ubuntu documentation. We are doing this so that we can leverage the
contributions of the Ubuntu documentation team to help keep the Xubuntu
documentation more complete and up-to-date. This means that our texts will
share more similarities with Ubuntu documentation texts (so if you know how
to translate Ubuntu documentation, it should be relatively easy to translate
Xubuntu documentation, too), but this also means that there will be more new
texts to translate for Xubuntu documentation's 9.04 release as compared to
prior releases.

I don't know a lot about the different translation workflows, but I just
wanted to let everyone know about this well in advance. The bzr branch for
what will become the Xubuntu 9.04 documentation is lcoated here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-doc/ubuntu-doc/xubuntu-jaunty-yelpversion

Thanks very much, and please let me know if you have any questions about
this change.
