Re: Japanese team (reviewer) is not working

Better not to contact a team admin individually, but through mailing lists
for this kind of topics. Personally I don't think the IRC meeting is
relevant at this stage.

Thanks,

Hi, sorry for late reply. Now that the package has been released to
lucid-updates, we need to take a SRU process again if regressions are
discovered.

So the new deadline, I think, is July 14st, a week ahead of 10.04.3 release.

Lucid SRU of d-i component pkgsel translations

2011-07-01 Thread Nobuto MURATA
Hi Ubuntu Translators,

I have requested translations update for Lucid as Bug #797985[1] against
pkgsel package, which is a component of debian-installer and contains
Ubuntu-specific strings and translations[2].

Could you check translations for your language?

The best way to test pkgsel 0.25ubuntu7.1 is to install Lucid with d-i
and a boot parameter apt-setup/proposed=true[3]. But you can also use
debdiff[4] to see if there is any obvious regression.

If anything wrong, please feedback to the bug report. Also, please don't
hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

 Indeed, they should be kept.

OK, I will keep Danish on not-affected list.

 [1]
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-1#Languages_commonly_supported_but_with_incomplete_coverage

This is not the incomplete coverage issue, because it doesn't relate
to ǿ (i.e. ø with an apostrophe, which is used very rarely, and even
then only optionally). It is related to ø and Ø without apostrophe.
The ø is replaced by an ø which is placed a few pixels above the
baseline of the other letters, while the Ø is replaced by some kind of
O-like character. Ø is unicode 00D8 if this can help to reproduce the
 problem.

Thank you for explaining in detail. Then it might be a bug of font
itself. I think it's worth trying to report as a bug against
console-setup package. I'm not so familiar with this issue, could
someone, of course including Ask ;) try that?

It is not 100% because in Vietnamese some characters with accents are
 the same as in French.

Changing locale to vi_VN gives the same results.

Could you tell me which is your problem about 70% of the characters?
Either they are completely unreadable characters like squares or
readable but odd about accents?

Call for friendly-recovery testing

2011-02-19 Thread Nobuto MURATA
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Hello Ubuntu Translators,

I'd like to ask translators to test whether your locales are affected by
Bug #573502[1]. This bug is related to friendly-recovery which is used
in order to solve unbootable situation that X setting is broken or disks
are fully filled. It can be accessed from an entry on bootloader.

Currently in some locales like Chinese, Japanese and Korean, the menu
has unreadable characters. You can see the example screenshot[2]. This
issue comes from limited fonts which we can use on console.

To show all characters properly, friendly-recovery is needed to use
framebuffer. Implement of the solution would take some time. So we are
going to make loading translations disable on affected locales as a
workaround.

To do so, we need complete list of affected locales. You can test
whether your locale is affected along with the steps below. Currently
zh_*, ja_JP and ko_KR are confirmed as affected, so no need to test on
that locales.

1. Open gnome-terminal. Then execute the line below.
$ /usr/share/recovery-mode/recovery-menu

2. You can see menus fully translated. Then press Esc.

3. Go to the console by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 and input username and
password to login.

4. Execute the line below again and see whether unreadable characters exist.
$ /usr/share/recovery-mode/recovery-menu

5. Then press Esc, and you can go back to the desktop by pressing Alt+F7.

Please feedback your result by replying to this e-mail like below.
Thanks in advance.

Locale: (output of locale command)
Affected: YES/NO
Percentage: (percentage of unreadable characters)

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 start page

2010-03-05 Thread Nobuto MURATA
Hi Adi,
thank you for your great work.

Translations of the start pages looks fine,
but searching with the start page, we get English result page which is
not localized.
I found that this problem was reported as Bug #363381[1].

And I realized that to fix is easy at least for Google.
So I sent a patch to the bug.
Please consider to include this fix for the start pages.

I don't know how many languages Google can display in.
So I would ask for translators whether your language is supported by Google,
and this fix has effect.
