ubuntu 10.04 start page update

2010-04-16 Thread Adi Roiban
Hi,

We are trying to push an updated design for Ubuntu 10.04 Start Page and
there is one new message that needs translations Ubuntu community

You can see the new design here:
http://l10n.ubuntu.tla.ro/startpage-10.04-en/

The text can be translated here:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu-start-page/trunk/+pots/startpage

The plan is to have the new string translated by the end of next week
22th of April.

Martin Albisetti is working hard at making the new design work with RTL
languages. If you have any hints about what can be changes in the
HTML/CSS to fix the RTL problem please add your comment on this bug:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu-start-page/+bug/525070

Right now there are no freezes for Ubuntu start page and we will
continue to update the pages as soon as we will have a batch of new
translations.

If you have time, please add your translation for the new string and I
will generate the translated webpages to get a feedback before uploading
them on the production server.

Thank you very much for all your effort!

Cheers,

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 start page

2010-03-05 Thread Nobuto MURATA
Hi Adi,
thank you for your great work.

Translations of the start pages looks fine,
but searching with the start page, we get English result page which is
not localized.
I found that this problem was reported as Bug #363381[1].

And I realized that to fix is easy at least for Google.
So I sent a patch to the bug.
Please consider to include this fix for the start pages.

I don't know how many languages Google can display in.
So I would ask for translators whether your language is supported by Google,
and this fix has effect.

Maybe you should define the encoding with the following tag inside
head, for those languages that are using UTF-8. I also had to change
the encoding manualy from the browser.

 meta http-equiv=content-type content=text/html;charset=UTF-8/

Does UTF-8 encoding garble displaying of many languages?

Thanks Adi,

Sinhala (si) displays correctly with UTF-8.

I'll make a suggestion: It'll be great if the preferred language in google
could be set to the language of the start page. since when you search from
the start page (discussing here) the result pages won't come in that
language, but instead in English. I don't know whether this could be done,
but if could it'll really be great.

Hi,

page for Sinhala (si) is not displaying correctly, (its displaying some
rubbish)

I think there's a problem with the browser and the encoding used. The
browser seems not to pick the right encoding.

I've checked pages for some other languages too, but they have the same
problem. It seems that the problem is with languages using characters other
than in the Latin alphabet.
