yes you should be able to change it back again easily, all you are doing
is changing the video output, affecting video playback. you can check if
your device has xv by running
xvinfo | grep ports

You need at least one port to see the incoming video (doubt you'll be
able to see your own video though), if you have more you should be ok.

I assume there is no chance of me mucking up my video, so I can't get
back to change it back again, if its wrong?

X Window, X11, xorg, they all mean the same thing. It's the underlying
system that draws windows and responds to mouse and keyboard on Linux
desktops.

I'd try the 3rd option (just a guess, since I've never used Skype, nor
re-configured gstreamer).

Philip >>> I've just tried to play a video on the page you give the URL
for, using Ubuntu 7.10 + FF2, and Ubuntu 8.04 with FF2 and FF3.

It plays (video and sound) for about a minute with 7.10 + FF2. Then it
stops, as if buffering, but it has actually hung and does not restart.

I could hear the sound for under a minute in 8.04 + FF3, but no video.
FF3 then simply terminated.

My media stuff is set up (apologies to RMS, though!) according to the
excellent HowTo at

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683

Using this configuration, I have been able to play all types of media
and streams without any difficulty - apart from the URL you sent. This
leads me to be suspicious about the stream you're trying to use.

HTH

Hi Philip, my ff3 hasn't crashed, but i can't seem to connect to the
content. it just hangs at "Selecting optimal video for your
connection..." but nothing else happens. have you tried other flash
sites? perhaps one of the toons on www.weebls-stuff.com

[ubuntu-uk] flash still doesnt work, when try to play flash stuff inside FF2 and FF3

2008-09-27 Thread ptaylor

Hi

i have tried this inside FF2 and FF3, with the latest flash from the
repos, and x86 8.04.1

i am trying to play scifi.dragonfly.com/renegade/stogamst448

when i clicked to play it, ff2 and ff3 died, so i decided to start them
from cli, and got "illegal instruction" as the error on the cli.

this confuses me,

any ideas why this wont work.

jabberd14 (which is installed by the 'jabber' package) is ancient.
There was a fork to create jabberd2, which is also in the repos. If
you don't need anything fancy, try this.

After apt-get'ing, you need to edit /etc/jabberd2/c2s.xml and
/etc/jabberd2/sm.xml to have the server's hostname, the default is
localhost, and then restart it.

If you need a hand getting it running, poke me (MattJ) in #jabber on Freenode.

Matthew.

+1 to openfire.
