I assume there is no chance of me mucking up my video, so I can't get back to change it back again, if its wrong? It's the underlying system that draws windows and responds to mouse and keyboard on Linux desktops. I'd try the 3rd option (just a guess, since I've never used Skype, nor re-configured gstreamer). Philip >>> I've just tried to play a video on the page you give the URL for, using Ubuntu 7.10 + FF2, and Ubuntu 8.04 with FF2 and FF3. It plays (video and sound) for about a minute with 7.10 + FF2. Then it stops, as if buffering, but it has actually hung and does not restart. I could hear the sound for under a minute in 8.04 + FF3, but no video. FF3 then simply terminated. My media stuff is set up (apologies to RMS, though!) according to the excellent HowTo at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683 Using this configuration, I have been able to play all types of media and streams without any difficulty - apart from the URL you sent. This leads me to be suspicious about the stream you're trying to use. HTH Mac -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

There was a fork to create jabberd2, which is also in the repos. If you don't need anything fancy, try this. After apt-get'ing, you need to edit /etc/jabberd2/c2s.xml and /etc/jabberd2/sm.xml to have the server's hostname, the default is localhost, and then restart it. If you need a hand getting it running, poke me (MattJ) in #jabber on Freenode.
