[ubuntu-uk] Can I do this with Evolution?

2009-09-06 Thread Luke Jennings
Hello,

After moving from windows about a year ago I had been using Thunderbird
as my e-mail client. I have just moved to evolution mostly for the
integration into the desktop and the calender. In the calender to look
at a selected task/event/memo it opens a new window as shown in the
before picture. I would like the current task/new task to appear at the
bottom right as in the after picture. The buttons have been moved to the
top along with the others. I didn't know what to goggle to find out if
you can already do this.

Before http://www.flickr.com/photos/42235...@n07/3894540244/
After http://www.flickr.com/photos/42235...@n07/3893751347/

If you can't already do this then, when the calender is first opened
that space could display the next anointment or a branding logo as
Mozilla does with Thunderbird. I think that maybe there should be a tick
box in the options to enable this as on a smaller screen it would take
up to much space.

Any thoughts? Is this already possible?

Thanks Jenkins

Might be worth using 'smartctl' to check the health of the drive.

Otherwise, does the manufacturer offer any drive checking utility?

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Throw a release party to get free software.

2009-09-06 Thread Lucy
I agree. Microsoft is a threat because of their monoply. They are very
good at locking-in users, however they are starting to feel threatened
by Linux and the negativity they received after the release of Vista.
Hence the 'release party' move (as well as various open source
initiatives) to improve their product marketing by building a grass
roots community.

I also see Apple as a challenge from a usability/design point of view,
but not so much from a business aspect, because they don't have so
many users (even though they're better than MS when it comes to
creating lock-in).

Tim, I'd ignore Microsoft's release party idea completely. Any mention
of it, just brings them back into public consciousness, when they
should be becoming irrelevent. Much better to just talk about the
awesome Ubuntu parties instead!

How do you see apple as a threat?
I can see them as a challenge, and something to raise the game for
free OS developers, but a threat?
Do you mean that they are practicing seriously monopolistic practices?
(Serious question, btw, not trying to start a flame war.)
Cheers,
   Doug.
