You can use Uniconverter, or I think that SK1 can open them and then
you could save it as an SVG. I had mixed results when using
Uniconverter, although it was quite a while ago now.

Hope this helps.

Have you had a look at this: http://sk1.sourceforge.net/

That is the link given in a thread on the Ubuntu Forums, and said
extensive testing was needed, so ymmv.

[ubuntu-uk] Opening CorelDraw CDR Files

2009-09-15 Thread James Kemp
I've got a couple of CDR files that I want to convert to SVG for use in
inkscape. Does anyone know how I might go about doing that without having
either CorelDraw or windows available?

Thanks.

[ubuntu-uk] GNOME panel set /not/ to always be on top

2009-09-15 Thread Liam Proven
If folks will forgive me posting a question here that I'm also asking
on the Support list...

I can't find a way to reproduce with the GNOME panel(s) the Windows
taskbar setting I need, which is quite simple: to have the GNOME panel
set up so that other windows can cover it.

The problem with autohide is that it keeps popping up in front of my
foreground application. The problem with enabling the hide buttons and
manually hiding it is that the hide button stays visible on top of my
foreground app.

What I want is a normal panel, /not/ hidden or autohidden, but just
*not* set to be always-on-top.

I've Googled but all I've established is that other people seem to
want the same thing & can't find a way.

Yep, lots of people working on voice / speech recognition, but still lots of
problems to overcome - the least of which are the kernels audio sub system,
and that current versions require the real-time kernel too!

Or when you offend your Ubuntu installation by playing loud rap music.
I hesitate to think what effect The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up"
would have...

it just occurred to me that a voice controlled media centre would be really
cool. The only problem i can forsee is, if playing with high volume, the pc
might not pick up the user's voice.
