Re: [ubuntu-uk] Completely removing Evolution

2011-02-25 Thread Chris Wilson
The situation with Evolution leaving behind a lot of it's backend packages
as dependencies for others is a known bug (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/692791).

[ubuntu-uk] Completely removing Evolution

2011-02-25 Thread Gordon Burgess-Parker
I have uninstalled Evolution from the Software Centre but I keep getting
asked about updates to Evolution-common, evolution-data-server-common
and evolution-data-server.
If I select these packages for removal in Synaptic it tells me that it
will also remove gnome-applets, gnome-panel, gnome-session,
indicator-applet, indicator-applet-session, indicator-me and ubuntu-desktop.
How do I get updater to ignore these packages without removing all that
stuff?

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Strange high CPU usage problem

2011-02-25 Thread Rossen Stoyanchev

From: "Simon Greenwood"

That is very similar to my problem: both Flash and Java apps caused exponential
CPU usage. Shutting down everything would cause the machine to settle down but
it wouldn't become stable until a full reboot. I would suggest checking to see
if there's a BIOS update for the machine as I've just done that and it's seemed
to resolve the heating issues that I had that apparently came from the Nvidia
GPU. Also you don't mention the version and architecture of Ubuntu that you're
using which might be useful to know.

I managed to update the bios last night. I've done a couple of tests after that
and so far it looks good. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks to everyone who responded!
