[ubuntu-uk] Selling: brown Ubuntu messenger bag.
Hi all, Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone is interested. I'm selling an Ubuntu messenger bag. It is the old one, brown with the old Ubuntu logo. It is in perfect condition and has hardly been used. I'm looking to sell it for 35 quid. Pics are here: http://issyl0.co.uk/repository/pics/ubuntubag/ Contact me off-list at isabell...@gmail.com if you'd like it. Collection (from Surrey) is preferred, but postage could be sorted out if required. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Science Museum visit, Easter.
Hi there, Having just looked at the doodle poll again after a few days, a suitable date is most likely to be Saturday 17th April 2010, as that seems to be the date most people can come, so far! I do of course apologise to the people who sadly cannot make it on that day! Although this is all provisional, there's still a fair few months to go! :) As I said on the poll, organised group tours are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays... so as the date most people can be available is a Saturday, I'm guessing we don't want a tour and are going to do our own thing? [ubuntu-uk] Science Museum visit, Easter.
Hello there, As decided at last night's meeting, I am now emailing the list about my idea of a group trip to the Science Museum in London at Easter. So, as I just mentioned, I was thinking of things to do at Easter and came up with Science Museum! As there is free entry to museums in London at the moment, I (with a little persuasion from Alan Bell, admittedly!) thought why not organise a trip to the science museum, a paradise for science minded geeks (and others)! Of course this would be an event during the school holidays, so bringing your family along is okay I guess. I was also thinking about organising a group tour (that would obviously come at a price, but if everyone can in theory chip in a bit) and then just generally a great day out! More information about the Science museum can be found at http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ I would like to hear your views on this, the general consensus was that it was a good idea from what I caught up on of last night's meeting... if anyone feels the need to elaborate on what I've said or contribute some more ideas/information, please of course feel free to do so! Obviously we will need to organise suitable dates. :) Thank you, Isabell. -- Regards, Isabell Long [[User:Isabell121]] on all public Wikimedia projects Freenode Community Co-Ordinator - issyl0 on irc.freenode.net PGP Key ID: 0xEB83C2BD signature.asc Description: Digital signature -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

[ubuntu-uk] DFEY
Hi all, You may or may not have heard of DFEY. It stands for Digital Freedom in Education and Youth, and there are branches in the North West, where it all started, the South East, and now the South West of the UK. I am a Co-Ordinator for the South East branch, and that is what I am emailing you about. "DFEY (Digital Freedom in Education and Youth) is a group of young people from across Britain who believe in the need to protect their freedoms in this digital age, and wish to educate others about how to protect their own freedoms. DFEY understand that many communities and mailing lists set up on the Internet may be intimidating to younger members, and for this reason aim to provide a friendly environment in which younger people are not afraid to contribute their ideas. DFEY was founded by members who believe strongly in the use of Free and Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and as a result of this see the use of Free Software technologies as not only a good way to help protect digital freedoms, but also beneficial during any young person's technological education. DFEY therefore campaigns for the increased use of and education about FLOSS in schools across the UK." (quoted from the site) Basically, I would like DFEY-SE to have more members, young people. The problems we face are common to youth groups, lack of members, lack of time, other commitments, geographical location and lack of funds to move around to attend meetings, but hopefully that can change - if you have teenage kids or know of any young people interested in technology in the South-East (our meetings are held in London) area that would benefit from joining a friendly community, or have any ideas as to how we can reach out to young people and get them involved or have any ideas for meetings/opportunities, please don't hesitate to let me know! Contact Details for DFEY-SE are as follows: Email: team...@dfey.org IRC: #dfey on irc.freenode.net Website: http://dfey.org Thank you, and I hope that made at least a little sense! Isabell Long. Not yet sadly, maybe you guys can do a better job of trying to convert her than I do?! Her laptop is getting slower by the day and I am convinced it is due to Vista -- mine, although it has higher specs, is the same model and a bit older and doesn't have half the problems my mother's does (touchwood) and it runs Ubuntu fully. -- Regards, Isabell Long [[User:Isabell121]] on all public Wikimedia projects Freenode Community Co-Ordinator - issyl0 on irc.freenode.net PGP Key ID: 0xEB83C2BD signature.asc Description: Digital signature -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Hehe! Thank you for doing this Alan, thank you also for posting to the list. [ubuntu-uk] Events in and around London?
Hi there, It just occured to me that I haven't heard of any events going on in or around London and I was just wondering whether there are any coming up or at least are some planned? I am desperate to get more involved and meet more likeminded people in real life as I am passionate about Ubuntu and associated free software, so if you could let me know that would be good, and maybe I could spur you on to do an event. I am quite near to London. Thanks, and sorry this message is so short and, well, not really to the point. :) Isabell. -- Regards, Isabell Long [[User:Isabell121]] on all public Wikimedia projects Freenode Community Co-Ordinator - issyl0 on irc.freenode.net PGP Key ID: 0xEB83C2BD signature.asc Description: Digital signature -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
