I know from first hand experience that the UK Government (DWP - Department
of Work and Pensions) pays for their IT via a lease to HP. A desktop
machine is £70 per month, and a laptop is £80 per month. Software is
maintained by HP, and a standard package of software (Email, Office and
Internet Explorer 6) are delivered as standard. Users can request more
software, and this is approved via their line management chain, but the
prices are fixed by HP, and are not open to outside bidders.

Hope this helps.

Keep an eye out in your local pound shop for the Live Wire branded bluetooth

If it's of any interest, Blackpool LUG will be hosting an installfest at

If there isn't an event, or party near you, organise one yourself.

We built the UCubed and Okay_Computer events from nothing in Manchester, and
now they are extremely popular in the local community.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Northern Installfest

2010-09-03 Thread Les Pounder
Hi Daniel / All

Manchester will be hosting an Ubuntu 10.10 release party, which will most
likely incorporate an installfest.

I am currently organising an Ubuntu stand for Software Freedom Day at Madlab
in Manchester (18/09/2010).

If I can offer any assistance / advice then please do let me know.

Thanks

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Manchester release party?

2010-04-21 Thread Les Pounder
Hi everyone

Yes I will be hosting an installfest at Oggcamp.
Please come along and have a chat, bring a usb flash drive and I will be
dishing out copies of the latest ubuntu release, and for those interested a
copy of the Ubuntu manual.
I have the resources available to offer help in installing Ubuntu,
troubleshooting and bug reporting.

It would be great to meet you all.

Thanks

So if you're a collector of old releases of Ubuntu, or would like to
be, maybe you could bring along some of whatever you have and we can
kick off a bit of a swap shop whilst we're there. I envisage an
informal session with people doing their own swaps, nothing formal or
requiring any other resources.
