Right, you seem to be missing the point of the event, it's to celebrate
the day of Ada Lovelace http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ada_Lovelace no
where on the site does it exclude anyone.

It's a chance to celebrate women in computing, a chance to encourage
more women to take part, get to gether and netwwork. There is nothing
to stop anyone else coming along.

Be that as it may, I'd thoroughly support a gathering of women who are
keen on computing, especially re' FOSS.

I have encouraged my wife to support FLOSSIE, and she says she agrees
in principle, that most Ubuntu events she has attended are mostly male
oriented, but also says that Ubuntu, and FLOSSIE by implication, are
not at the top of her 'priority' list.

just to back up what Laura and Bea have already said, Ada Lovelace day,
and the Ubuntu competition, is a positive global initiative to celebrate
women involved in technology, and encourage others to participate. It
isn't about dividing any community or coercing people into
participating, it is about providing a positive environment where
everyone feels their presence is welcome and their contribution is valued.

[ubuntu-uk] Ada Lovelace Event

2011-09-30 Thread laura

 Aloha
wondering how many Ubuntu women are on here and wondering if you'd
like to come along to http://www.bcs.org/content/ConWebDoc/41634
[1]  I'll be there might be nice to meet more Ubuntu women face to
face as when it comes to event meet ups there does seem to be a lack
of presence.
If you're going let us and if  want to meet up before hand  so we
can get an idea of numbers..

Laura

Random Quote of the Day (chosen by my computer) -

Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone
won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You
have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth.
You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And
when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or
death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the
apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell
yourself you tasted as many as you could.
