Re: [ubuntu-uk] BBC sound
Hi, Segmentation faults are caused by programs trying to access parts of memory that don't exist, or I believe that are read only or even being used by other programs. I used to get this when the machine was up for a long time and a good old fashioned reboot fixed it. I know that's not a real fix but when your not sure how to fix it and you want to get on then its as good as any. Mike 2009/7/14 mac > Norman Silverstone wrote: > > This is unbelievable. Well, you won't believe this, but I've just been trying to listen to BBC Radio4 live (Ubuntu 9.04 on a Samsung NC10; FF 3.0.11), and every time the iPlayer starts, FF crashes. I ran it in a terminal, and the output just before the crash is 'Segmentation Fault'. Anyone got any ideas? -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Problem cured for the time being but not solved. Sorry about the 'F'! But glad the ritual magic worked, even if the mystery remains. I ran firefox (small f) in a terminal, loaded the BBC website and radio played perfectly, I could not make it crash. Since then I have tried several times running Firefox in the usual way from the tool bar icon, going to the BBC website and the radio plays without crashing. Problem cured for the time being but not solved. Norman -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

How about opening a terminal, and typing 'Firefox' (without the quotes) to run it in the terminal; then navigate to the BBC site, and try listening to the stream. When FF crashes, there may be some informative error messages in the terminal. Here is the link and, when there, I just select any one of the Listen Live radio links. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ I would like to find out what is causing Firefox to crash and, then, putting things right. [ubuntu-uk] BBC sound
When I try to listen to a sound broadcast such as 5 live, a window opens and then Firefox crashes. However, I am able to watch and listen in pop-out player with no problem. Any suggestions to overcome this difficulty would be very welcome. Norman -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
