If you add the medibuntu repository and install ffmpeg from there:- http://www.medibuntu.org Note in the description it says This package is built with the risky option, to enable mp3/mp4/h264/amr support. Therefore, it is in Medibuntu as it might violate patents. Hi Javad, On 29 Apr 2008, at 09:46, Javad Ayaz wrote: Hi, Im looking for something to convert my music to good quality mp4 files in buntu. How can i do this? You can try using mencoder or ffmpeg. I can't really suggest a GUI option for you I am afraid as i only ever use the shell for this kind of thing. If you need specific help with mencoder or ffmpeg their lists are very good, also a quick google will turn up a LOT of information about transcoding to mp4. hth Huw -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.org/UKTeam/

yeh that would probably be betterer!! :) On 29/04/2008, Huw Selley [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 29 Apr 2008, at 10:54, Javad Ayaz wrote: ok i will look into that also. Is there a difference in output result if terminal is used as compared to GUI? As long as the GUI is using the same settings as you would use in the terminal the output files will be the same. The GUI simply drives ffmpeg for you. If you are new to transcoding media then you probably want the GUI as ffmpeg can be a little intimidating if you don't know it very well. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Convert to MP4/AAC
You have to consider the source of your music too. Converting from a low-quality 35k MP3 to a high-quality AAC file will not increase the quality of the music. The converter cannot create the missing 1s and 0s that have been removed when the MP3 was created. If your using a linux based system, and your converting your music from CD. The best format to use would be OGG, as its supported by all linux audio applications natively. Although I can understand if you own a portable audio player that doesn't handle OGG and your restricted to AAC.
