[ubuntu-uk] Oggcamp - stall/demo area

2012-07-20 Thread Laura Czajkowski

Aloha,

It's a month to go to Oggcamp and I just wondered would the Ubuntu UK
loco like a stand to display information there at the event, possibly
demo Ubuntu machines, we could get a conference pack and also some cds
for the event, but we'd need people to man it over the two days.
http://oggcamp.org/ Some of the other distros/groups will be there also.

[ubuntu-uk] OggCamp 11

2011-04-12 Thread Alan Pope
Hullo LoCo!

We (Ubuntu UK Podcast Linux Outlaws) have just announced that we'll
be holding another OggCamp this year. Apologies if you see this
announcement in numerous places, we're trying to get the word out :)

OggCamp 11 will be held on the 13th 14th August at Farnham Maltings
[0] in Surrey and it's free to attend. Details are on our website [1].

We have put the basics about the event up on the site, and will add
more information as we have it, including travel and accommodation
info.

As with last years event we'll have a few rooms available for people
to give talks about things that interest them. The event isn't
specifically about Free Software or indeed Ubuntu Linux, but it does
lean heavily in that direction. If you'd like to talk about something
that interests you, do come along, grab a slot and rock on.

We're actively looking for sponsors of the event, so if you know any
groups/companies who might be interested, do throw them our way.
Contact details on the site [1].

Although entrance is free we'd ask that people sign up at Eventbrite
[2] so we can get an idea of numbers ahead of time. If you later find
you can't make it, do let us know so we can release the ticket.

We'll be announcing more details over the coming months on both Linux
Outlaws [3] and the Ubuntu UK Podcast [4], and of course we'll update
the main site [1] too.

Cheers,
Al.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] oggcamp / bar camp (torbay)

2010-03-27 Thread Jon Spriggs
A barcamp generally should have at least three rooms and one of them should
be enough to hold as many people as you have that are attending. As it tends
to be a fairly geeky set of people, you'll need to have sufficient bandwidth
for your attendees, including wifi coverage of the building. At the first
OggCamp, the wifi routers didn't have sufficient DHCP scope for all the
attendees, leading to many disconnections.

Consider also travel arrangements - some people will want to stay nearby,
while others will travel from far and wide to get there. Try to bear this in
mind - what are the travel links like? What hotel facilities are nearby?
Have you considered organising an All-nighter?

OggCamp is the name of a particular barcamp style event, but you might get
UUPC and Linux Outlaws to support you reusing the name.

I've known a few people that have organised barcamp events, feel free to
drop me a note off-list if you want me to pass your details on to them?

All the best, and I hope your event goes really well!

Just wondered what the venue requirements for ogg / bar camp would be as

looking at the site it can take about 700 people, I can't see 700 +
people turning up to a geeky event really.

the venue does NOT sell alcohol as its mainly aimed at young people
under 18 but there are plenty of bars nearby if you are that much in
need of a drink,

if something like this is possible it would be really cool to bring
something like this in to Torbay.

Just wondered if this venue fits the bill, they are getting an internet
cafe set up over the next few weeks running ubuntu, so Mark is in to
free software stuff anyway. :)

just an idea.

[ubuntu-uk] Oggcamp 10 Showcasing the latest Ubuntu release

2010-03-26 Thread Les
Hi everyone

First post, so let me introduce myself.

My name is Les Pounder, I live in Blackpool, and I have been using
Ubuntu since 6.06 Dapper Drake. I have been using Linux since 2000
(Corel Linux), and I currently work as an IT Service Manager for the
DWP.

I will be part of the crew at Oggcamp (http://oggcamp.org/) this year,
and I have just posted an activity on
http://ideas.oggcamp.org/activities

What I would like to do is set up an area where we can advocate the use
of Ubuntu, show off the latest release and provide face to face help to
any users that have any queries.

To do this I desperately need your help!
Would anyone like to volunteer to help me get this idea off the ground?

If you can provide

Yourself
Your laptop / netbook
Your time on the day

then we can really show the attendees how excellent Ubuntu is, and
answer any questions that they may have.

Thanks for reading, and all the best.

[ubuntu-uk] OggCamp 10

2010-03-25 Thread James Tait

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I was about to book train tickets for OggCamp, but thought before I did
so I'd see if anyone on these lists from the Derby area was going and
wanted to car share and split the cost of petrol. I intend to travel to
and from the venue on both days (that's my compromise for taking the
weekend away from the family), but obviously if you're not then you pay
less petrol money. I'd like to book train tickets in the next couple of
days if no-one takes me up on the offer, so a quick response would be
appreciated.

Many thanks,

[ubuntu-uk] OggCamp!

2009-10-07 Thread Alan Pope
Hi all,

If any of you are around in Wolverhampton on the 25th October then you
might want to come along to OggCamp. It's an event created by the
people behind Ubuntu UK Podcast and Linux Outlaws Podcast. We're
hosting an 'unconference' where everyone is welcome (first come, first
served). It's running at the Connaught Hotel in Wolves, and you can
find more details on the website:-

http://oggcamp.org/

We'd love to see lots of Ubuntu UK users there!

Cheers,
Al.

p.s. look out for our full page advert in the latest Linux Format :)

I will most likely be *speaking* at OggCamp. It should be good fun, look
out for me, and it would be nice to have a good few people looking at my
talk (on http://launchpad.net/suvat if anyone wants to read up on it in
advance).

I'll also be at LRL. Hope to see plenty of you there!
