It's Italian but it's been assimilated into English. It means an

Um, you know, if that is your signature, you should know that there is
only one 'f' in 'aficionado'. :-)

And BTW, a sig should be prefaced by '-- ' - that's dash dash space,
then a newline. It also shouldn't contain HTML or formatting.

I've mentioned this on D&C GLUG. Personally I don't mind non-free when
it comes to games as I see them as entertainment much in the same way as
I see music or films. Reading the blog posts Valve have made they seem
to at least recognise the platform as 'open source' and not just another
platform.

Still I think it would be nice if more game companies would do what id
Software has done with id Tech 1-4 and license them under GPL (even if
it is only after they have moved onto a newer engine).

If Valve gets serious it would make sense that they at least contribute
to making some existing free software better though.

Yeah, Valve confirmed Steam for Linux (specifically Ubuntu) a while ago.
I think I read somewhere they're aiming to have an early version out later this
year, and are also porting some of their games, and possibly their Source
Engine.

[ubuntu-uk] Steam fears Win8 - proposes Linux

2012-07-31 Thread David Smith
This article on the BBC raised my eyebrows - in a good way. In short, Steam
fear Windows 8 becoming locked-in, I suppose like Apple marketplace and may
change platform. Considering how big a player the Valve owned Steam is, can
only be a good thing for Linux distros. And would their first choice be Ubuntu?
