Sadly, I have to agree with Paula. I want to say that you guys have
bent over backwards to help me, and it really is appreciated. When I
think of the quality of help I get from computer manufacturers and from
my ISP, you guys are fantastic!!! Plus I don't have to put up with a
phone conversation with a lovely guy in Delhi who would probably be just
great if only I could understand his English.

The IRC log someone posted made me cringe. You don't deserve this!

He's gone anyway, or at least he told me he'd unsubscribed. He contacted me
off-list--reasonably politely, in fact--after I delurked to tell him off, and I
tried to explain why he wasn't getting helped anywhere and how he might improve
his attitude, but I don't think it sunk in. Too much invested in his sense of
aggrieved frustration to contemplate thinking for five seconds before making
with the abuse, I reckon. Or it might be because I suggested he apologise...

Well having got in from work and looked through my IRC scrollback it
would appear that you got all abusive and earned yourself a ban from the
channel in less than an hour, during which time you *were* being helped
and your initial networking issue was solved (albeit by plugging the
wire in correctly). People come and go on the channel and you were
requested to be patient. If you had waited, maybe provided more
information someone else would have come along who knew a bit more about
what it was you were trying to do and would have been able to help you
further.

I don't want to turn this into a long argumentative and ultimately
pointless thread, but I would invite you to look through the logs for
today, all of it, including the bit you were in and see what normally
happens in the channel.

there is a bit of a bug with it throwing up the error you see at the top

pulling from a text file it has to be served up from the same server
apparently, which should be fine (just means we can't pull from a page
 on wiki.ubuntu.com for example)

 Alan.

If the list was on the wiki, it could be pulled in using a php script
(using curl) to present that extracted information in the format
currently held in the flat file.

I use this to get dynamically present information from my Alfresco
server into my PHP apps, using the Alfresco REST api.

If you have a page on the wiki with the information to pull in, I could
have a go as a proof of concept, if this would be useful.

Thanks

http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Map

Centred and zoomed to the uk.

Mary, if a template wiki page was created, that you could fill in the gaps
with stuff like what you can help with, the area you can provide help and
when you are most likely available. You could just copy this into your page,
I'm sure we could come up with a quick guide for those that aren't wiki
conversant.

 Thank you

I presume the idea of this thread is those of us who can offer help to
others put down our locations in case anyone else near by needs help?

If so, I'm based in Torquay, Devon. I'm currently working in Exeter so
I'm happy to pop in and give someone a hand if they're in the Torbay
area or in and around Exeter (although it's easier for me to pop and see
someone in Exeter during a week day after work).
