Thanks piskie, I only found

try your suggestion and see if that works.

I tried those options in the xorg.conf file, but it made no difference,
I am still left with just a black and white output on the TV.

I also tried

Option TVOutFormat COMPOSITE

but that did not help either.

The only other difference being that I use seperate x screens rather

is b/w - yc2 is colour

Sorry

I had a black/white problem too, it was also solved by changing the
option on the television itself for the input, look for options where
you can enable s video or disable rgb. i think it has something to do
with 4 pin s video cables and scart adapter's pin connections, if my
memory serves me right there's a hack you can do (soldering required) to
fix the scart adapter. It's been a while since I looked into this and I
don't remember the details, try fiddling with the options on your
television for inputs or s video settings, that was enough for me.

I found instructions for that at
http://www.camp0s.com/pc_related/svideo/vcr_to_pc_svideo.php

but it made no difference when I connected pin 15 to pin 19.

The TV itself is a fairly basic old TV, no fancy settings, just 1 scart
input, no S-Video input, hence I have to use an S-video to scart adapter.

I also tried an adapter that fits onto the VGA connector on the graphics
card, and has S-video output, but that gave no output at all.

The webpage suggests connecting pin 15 to pin 20. This did not work.
Besides, when I connect a different PC running Windows using the same
setup I get colour. I also tried putting the TV out lead from the PC
into my old VCR which has s-video connection, and through that I also
just got a black and white image.

This leaves just 3 possibilities:
software fault in Mythbuntu/Ubuntu
hardware fault in graphics card
faulty cable

Try adding this to xorg

The Nvidia-glx-new driver is installed in Ubuntu, so where is the

You'll probably have to install it through Synaptic or apt...

There is nvidia-settings which is the control panel and also nvtv which
is supposedly used to setup the TV out (although I've not tried this).

[ubuntu-uk] TV Out from Mythbuntu not in colour

2008-11-05 Thread David King
I have for a while been trying to get TV out to work on a PC running
Mythbuntu. I spoke to Dave at the Linux Expo a couple of weeks ago, who
mentioned xrandr to me.

It turns out that it was already installed in Mythbuntu. I managed to
play with the settings in Mythbuntu and got the TV out to work, sort of,
as a separate X display. But the display on the TV is black and white,
not colour, and it only shows the XFCE logo in the middle and some
default desktop icons on the left. I can move the mouse from the monitor
to the TV okay and open the icons on the TV desktop. I also tried a
different s-video cable, but it made no difference.

I then managed to get the TV out to be a clone image of the monitor, but
still only in black and white. I have upgraded Mythbuntu to 8.10, which
seemed to offer better choices/design of the nvidia settings, with the
latest drivers.

Any ideas how to get the TV out image to be in colour?
