[ubuntu-uk] team meeting today in an hour or so

2013-02-16 Thread Alan Bell
I meant to send this email yesterday, but totally failed to do so, sorry
about that.
I figure it is time we go together for a bit of a chat about events and
things we can do to promote Ubuntu in the UK. There is a global jam
initiative coming up and we have a possible venue for a bit of a get
together in London on the 9th March and perhaps one in the Coventry area
too.

Do pop along to the #ubuntu-uk-meeting channel any time from 8 ish, I
will start a meeting and let it roll all evening, so feel free to pop in
any time. You can join in a browser here:

http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ubuntu-uk-meeting

or with any IRC client.

Damn, I can't make the 4th of August!

One other thing I would very much like to restart is the happy hour

to volunteer to be in a particular pub at a certain date and time
(this has been Thursday evenings so far, but other suggestions are

I'll happily suggest one but it will be in London so it won't be very
original. Then again, if there is interest, I'd be tempted to suggest
something in the Richmond / Kew / Chiswick area to make it look like
it's slightly outside of the Big Smoke.

I have not been successful in connecting via irc just now, which is
the suggested procedure on http://ubuntu-uk.org/happy-hour/ however,
SouthHill Park Bracknell is a nice venue, with easy free parking with
good road access. It is good for the bar, and also rooms for hire, a
60 seat cinema, a large theatre, and a spacious atmosphere. Oh, and in
the cellar bar there there are arranged events such as comedy, bands etc.

OK, having now run through the list: kazam still too buggy IMO (but you
can put it on tomorrow if you like), I use gtk-recordmydesktop so have
installed that instead. Screenshot software is default. Chrome - uppphh!
Agree pidgin much better than empathy but keeping empathy instead
because it's the default - main advantage of pidgin is OTR but can
install it on-site if someone expresses a need.

Bit of a shag to put a LAMP server on for Wordpress onto a desktop -
demo version on the LAMP server here makes more sense. I'll bring login
info with me.

[ubuntu-uk] Team Meeting minutes and expo plan

2011-01-11 Thread Alan Bell

Hi all,
minutes from the team meeting last night are in their usual place at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/LastMeeting

The main matter arising is the http://www.opensourceexpo.co.uk/ and our
stand in the .org village at it.

We have a bit of a plan and created a schedule for the two days
http://pad.ubuntu-uk.org/linuxexposchedule
It would be great to see as many people as possible visiting the show or
helping on the stand if you have a bit more time available. We will be
demoing Maverick pretty much as it is on the CD, plus any demos of shiny
new stuff like Unity in Natty would be great - just make sure people
know which is shiny new preview stuff and which is released and on the
CD stuff.
Anyone staffing the stand should equip themselves with a Maverick Tshirt
http://shop.canonical.com/product_info.php?products_id=731 or
http://shop.canonical.com/product_info.php?products_id=736 as
appropriate and we should have a nice new banner and tablecloth to use.
We hope to go for beer/food somewhere after the show, so even if you
can't make it during the day if people want to join afterwards we will
try and arrange that.

next meeting is on the 27th at 9PM

Still trying to see if I can get to this, will know next week. Some questions
that occurred to me after the meeting. What time will things be starting to
get the stand set up etc. How does one get in, I have normal visitor tickets
for both days available to me, are there exhibitor passes.
