Evolution "does exactly this"?..

You cannot get a reminder for a task since you cannot set an alarm for a
task in Evolution. Thus to get a reminder for a task you have to set it
as an appointment.

I use Evolution myself and know how annoying this is.

There's also the dates application which is just a different front end
to evolution calendaring. It may be preferred if you don't use evolution
for email.

There is the caldav and the related iCalendar format. The problem is the
lack of good implementations I think. This is how you can synchronise
mozilla sunbird and google calendar for example. I think evolution
supports caldav too.

Hi Paul

Just to point out the obvious, if you want something that is just on your
desktop, then go along with whatever you feel comfortable with.

However, if you want to be able to synch the various parts of the PIM, then
either follow the advice provided so far, remembering that by using G-Mail
as the synch server it is outside of your direct control - privacy and all
that. But, there are a number of alternatives that can be used that can be
either run on your desktop or server that will synch up to various other
PIMs. Problem is that there is not one standard especially when you want to
start synch to mobiles etc.

Try adding an appointment in Google Calendar using Quick Add as "12-2
meeting at Buckingham Palace" then go back into the appointment. :)

I use Thunderbird, with Lightening attached and goosynch. It synchs all
my computers and it synchs to my phone, so I have everything on all
computers and phone that's both windows and Ubuntu.

I use Gmail with Gcal as it now has Google Docs enabled in which you can add
a document to an event and then send an email as well, in which you can then
add to Gtasks as well and works really quickly, the you can also send it to

Also you can work from Gmail and the search from Google Desktop also checks

Hi

Is there an equivelent of a calender / personal information manager (so
I can store what I am doing at a time / date and get reminders) for
gnome as I am usign ubuntu,

Doing a search I know kde has one kpim, but I can't find anything for
gnome, unless evolution has this feature.

I am going to try sunbird, but something that can integrate with the
panel calender would be useful.
