For a blind person who relies on the use of Orca, I feel this should be addressed as a matter of urgency. Previous versions of Ubuntu I could get sound. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5735 and the sound chip is the Intel HD Audio onboard, sometimes called High Definition Audio. hello, I have been doing some installs and testing with Orca too and I have seen it start up muted, but I have not found a reproduceable way to get it to start muted. I have been testing in virtualbox and on a couple of machines with Intel audio. Re: [ubuntu-uk] No sound in Ubuntu Studio VM
I managed to find some alsa modules in the repositories and installed those, and now the sound is working. The bit about "Dummy Output" doesn't look right. Try to right-click on the sound icon at the top, then select "Sound Preferences", go to the "Output" tab and check that the device in the option list at the top and the connector in the drop-down at the bottom are correct. Mine currently has "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" for the device and "Analog Output / Amplifier" for the connector. If you look at the roadmap for SB[1], CD ripping and podcasts are scheduled for 1.4 (project codename: Kanye) (I am too really keen on these two features, both for me and for my Wife who I have had to continue with iTunes in a VirtualBox VM for the time being). For me that release will make it virtually feature complete. I will be testing their early code and helping where possible. Re: [ubuntu-uk] No sound after install Gutsy
Thanks a lot Mac, I read in the Ubuntu Forum, the toshiba A200/5 series got problem with the sound cards driver. Even, I've downloaded from Intel website and compiled the ALSA, but still can't get the sound. I though it's caused by the hardware so I tried with my Laptop original Vista DVD recovery. Everythings work. Then, I installed again the Gutsy.. now still trying... The latest news that it can be fixed with the latest version of ALSA driver, but I haven't try it yet. cheers, Taufan Lubis Registered Ubuntu User #16660 www.taufanlubis.wordpress.com On Fri, 2007-11-16 at 09:31 +, Mac wrote: > Taufan >>> Can't help with sound, but to get the cube and other fancy > effects you need compizconfig-settings-manager: > > http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2007/10/04/compiz-fusion-on-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbin/ > > Mac > > > -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
