Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Very Quiet Here ?

2022-04-07 Thread Cody Smith
I agree with your sentiment that Ubuntu Oregon seems dead (for a good while
me, Phil and jvlb we're one of the few people active), and a still current
world event that started around 2 years ago had me stop hosting Ubuntu
Hours here in Salem.

I'm hoping I can restart those here in the near future, I'm still weighing
how safe that is.

Is be up for helping where I can to jumpstart the LoCo

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Very Quiet Here ?

2022-04-07 Thread Robin Haberman
Hi Richard

My name is Robin E-H Hoard, I am in Gladstone, and I am a member of
Ubuntu (under robin haberman), Oregon. I am not a coder or bug fixer.
My background with Ubuntu is more in business development. From 2013
to 2019, I worked with both Canonical and LibreOffice as a pitchman at
O'Reilly Open Source Convention, Portland (OSCON) in the expo hall.
The interesting thing is, in doing so, I got to meet a number of major
players in each organization.

Currently, I am moving into my fourth career and my third startup. I
run a small design R&D Studio working on climate change civilian
defense and early warning systems, using scaled-down versions of three
major technologies: Hadoop, IoT, and AI – ML (all open-source for the
project). My background: I worked ten years as a band roadie, ten
years as a foundation document researcher, and almost twenty years for
several companies in telecommunications OEM as a network manager and
then field engineer.

As far as my thoughts about rebuilding Ubuntu Oregon. Good question.
There is a good playbook written by a friend, Jono Beacon, “The Art of
Community.” I hope to use it in my project. I believe you can still
download a copy for free.

[Ubuntu Oregon] Very Quiet Here ?

2022-04-07 Thread Richard

Just joined the list recently, and there's been zero activity.

Is the Ubunto LOCO OR still active?    If not, I'd like to try to
re-boot it.

I'm living in Salem.  I'm a recent refugee from Silicon Valley, trying
not to flunk retirement for the second time.

The last time I flunked I spent 5 years at Mozilla.

I've been playing with computers since the 60's, starting with Fortran
on an IBM 7090.

I was editor-in-chief at InfoWorld when the IBM PC was announced, and
I've been involved in several start-ups.

Let's see what we can do to build a vibrant Oregon Ubuntu community
together.

Your thoughts?
