[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 339091] Re: [i945] (Needs UXA) X freezes a few minutes after resuming

2009-05-10 Thread Romano Giannetti
OK, thanks. Maybe I am thick here, but just a last question: is there
confirmation (Guido?) that reverting to 2.4 will fix the suspend/resume
locks? If yes, I can upgrade and maybe help with the UXA testing.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352485] Re: X: NVidia 8800 GT not being initialized correctly

I added the cx18 module to the blacklist (usually used for video capture

I remember doing this in 8.10, but it made no difference then.

I uploaded the logs after logging into a gnome session immediately after

logging into another KDE session following a crash (however, I'm
experiencing rather more severe problems with my linux installation at
the moment, so it may be awhile before I'm able to do this.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374601] [NEW] Touchpad not recognised as a touchpad, and does not have scrolling

2009-05-10 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I installed Kubuntu 9.04 today after using one of the pre-release
version of it, and the touchpad doesn't have any of the extra functions
it used to, like the virtual scroll wheel. Scrolling suddenly
disappeared in the last week or so whilst I was using the pre-release so
I just figured it had randomly broken and that a reinstall would fix it.

From what i can tell, it looks as though it is being recognised as a
generic PS/2 mouse.

I have followed the instructions located on the wiki for reporting this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection

Any help would be appreciated with this issue.

Thanks

2009-05-10 Thread Åskar
I wouldn't worry Christoph, the bug is marked as high priority and it
affects a very big userbase. Ubuntu is used in a lot of netbooks, they
even release a netbook version of Ubuntu. Most notebooks use intelcards
and not to fix this in Jaunty would be very, very strange. PR suicide. I
think a fix is coming in time :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365885] Re: random x server freeze (nvidia)

2009-05-10 Thread Gerald E Butler
I tried Zero's solution of rolling back to the 173 version of the NVidia
Driver using the Hardware Drivers configurator. This fixed my problem.
The symptoms I was having as follows:

Configuration/Environment:

1. Compiz
2. Emeral Theme Decorator
3. Cube Rotation, Reflection, and many other Effects enabled

Symptom:

Any time I Maximized a window the display completely froze. I was
unable to switch terminals and not even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace worked (I had
re-enabled Ctrl-Alt-Backspace using the 'dontzap' command). The only way
to make anything at all happen was to power-off the machine and perform
and hard re-boot.

Of course, re-booting like this tended to corrupt the Tracker
indexes. What a mess!

Anyway, rolling back to version 173 of the Nvida driver so far has
fixed the problem. Yay! Thanks Zero!

THIS IS A HORRIBLE BUG! THIS IS THE LAST NVIDIA VIDEO CARD MACHINE I
WILL EVER PURCHASE!

rant
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, INTEL/AMD PRODUCE GOOD FLOSS DRIVERS ASAP! I'M
TIRED OF THIS KIND OF THING BECAUSE OF CLOSED-SOURCE CRAPPY DRIVERS! Nvidia,
SERIOUSLY, consider your customers, can't things be better than this? Is this
the best you can do?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365973] Re: [GM45] Intel video driver often chooses wrong resolution on Thinkpad SL400

2009-05-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
uiberto, having compared the logs it looks like the bugs are a bit different.
In your case, it looks like the EDID information is wrong/misinterpreted. You
have lines in the log like:
(II) intel(0): Not using default mode 1440x900 (exceeds panel dimensions)
It looks like the Supported additional video mode of 1280x800 is what the
driver puts as the maximum resolution. I don't understand what the line
Driver vesa
is doing in your xorg.conf.

In Jonathan's case the log looks just fine on first sight. It claims to
set the resolution to 1280x800, and 1280x800 is listed as a valid mode
in the xrandr output.

So uiberto, it's probably best if you file your bug as a separate bug.
You may suscribe me to it as well, so that I'm notified.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 304514] Re: [i830] Fonts smear after a while of use

2009-05-10 Thread jerrylamos
Andrew,
Installed 2.7.0 driver as reported by Xorg.0.log. I was able to run GtkPerf
three times O.K., fonts O.K. Then I startedl firefox and over half the fonts
in this message are big black blotches.

For what it is worth, GtkPerf was about 2% faster with 2.7.0 than 2.6.3
however it doesn't mean buch since to do any meaningful work at all I've
got to boot up Intrepid. Nice having dual boot.

Tried taking screenshot but couldn't read the window.

Jerry

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 304981] Re: [i855] Xorg errors and warnings for intel 855GM

2009-05-10 Thread Andrew Ash
Glad to hear that, Dausto!

Can we get the fix confirmed by the original reporter as well? That
would be ackdesha. Or if others using the 855gm card can confirm the
fix we'll go ahead and close the bug. Thanks everyone for the help
making Ubuntu even better.
