[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376108] Re: [RV250] Very slow performance
I was maybe a bit too optimist about the use of XAA. The performance increase is evident, but it's still a fraction of what it used to be, I realize after some use. The problem is still particularly evident when, say, listening to mp3 and browsing with firefox. While before each scrolling or new page would fill up CPU and cause a lag in mp3 reproduction, now it happens, I would say, around 20% of the times. -- [RV250] Very slow performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376108 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 339783] Re: Separate X-screen, apps launched from 2nd screen appear on first screen
Dear Sebastien, In my opinion, this is not a duplicate? This bug is about applications not starting on the right screen, the other is specificly on loading. Please don't simply try to close off bugs, although I know that is important. I do believe the bugs are related, unfortunately Gnome devs are silent. regards, Vincent On Thu, May 14, 2009 at 12:26 AM, Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.comwrote: *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 290935 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290935 could people stop commenting on this duplicate bug? -- Separate X-screen, apps launched from 2nd screen appear on first screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339783 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug (via bug 290935). If I click Places-Home Folder in the 2nd screen it opens in the first screen. This is 100% reproducible. Same behaviour observed if running DISPLAY=:0.1 nautilus --browser or if running from Alt-F2 However, for gnome-terminal, running from the menus opens it in the wrong (first) screen, but running DISPLAY=:0.1 gnome-terminal or running from Alt-F2 opens it in the correct (2nd) screen. Firefox/thunderbird open properly in the 2nd screen in all cases. Compiz-config settings manager has same behaviour as gnome-terminal. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372556] Re: Recovery start+telinit 5 is the only way to start correctly
I have gathered some data which can be helpfull. First lspci.txt is the lspci output in this system. Second xorg.conf is the configuration file for X that is in use. Third two files output during the 'good' run (telinit 5): by X, Xorg.0.log by gdm, gdm:0.log Forth two same files output during the 'bad' run: by X, Xorg.0.log.old by gdm, gdm:0.log.1 As you will see there is no error (EE) lines in the X logs. Everything seems to work fine, but screen stays black or fuzzy with no cursor. The driver used is Vesa. As you asked me I have tried Ubuntu 9.04 but it fails also. Initially the desktop is drawn correctly, but the cursor is an absurd squared image broken by transparent vertical lines, much larger than the normal cursor. And if I click on Firefox icon, than all the screen gets fuzzy and no way to recover even with Ctrl+Alt+F1. So I have kept the old version, that I use with my telinit 5 system for now. All other computers I use have different processors or chipsets. My feeling is that the Via chipset is not well handled in the normal startup, but with my trick, it works fine... Hi! Today I came across something that seems interesting to me. After resuming from hibernation I'm getting blank screen for X. Text mode is working (I can use CTRL-ALT-F1 and run things on the text terminal), and I can verify that the programs in my graphical session are working. I simply can't see them. Just as ari197 wrote in comment 6. The thing is: even though I cannot see my X session, I can make the laptop suspend by closing the lid for example. And once I resume from suspend I can again see the graphical screen. So far I have found no explanation why suspending with X invisible will result in X visible after resume. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372556] Re: Recovery start+telinit 5 is the only way to start correctly
@Juan Carlos. Thanks for attaching the 8.04 log files. It would be interesting to see what the log files show when you boot 9.04 as well. Can you please boot the 9.04 live CD and then run the command apport- collect 372556 in a terminal? This will automatically attach similar logs for 9.04 to the bug report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 261318] Re: Regression: new Toshiba Laptop Support (tlsup) driver breaks Toshiba hotkeys; input device does not support 'kbd' input handler
First offI reverted my xorg.conf file back to the defaults after posting yesterday. That caused an inability to bootnot recoverable in safe mode (repairing X). So I booted with the live CD and replaced my xorg.conf file with the backup that was made when I replaced itsolved the problem. While in the live session, my brightness hotkeys were working as they had under Hardy/Intrepid. After the live session I booted as normal and my brightness hotkeys are working again under Jaunty. So at least I'm back to normalbut still not happy ;-) I suppose I should run another live session and see if the seemingly missing modules are there. STEVE: Thanks for the info on the possibility of my install being messed up. I have no idea how to go about proving it one way or the other. Any ideas? I can say that all signs point to the upgrade having been successful...correctly reports as 9.04notification area changes are seen...perhaps anecdotal tidbits...but there ya go. DAVE: Thanks for the fnxfd info...I'll give that a whirlmuch appreciated. I'd like to confirm the issue as well. Running Jaunty with fglrx 9.4, and after rebooting with Xinerama enabled X will either go black and restart, or the screen fills with garbage and hard locks. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in RRCrtcGammaSet() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355841 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363238] Re: [r100-rv200] very poor Xorg performance - XAA solves this
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Just installed Jaunty RC on my ThinkPad X32. I am experiencing very poor Xorg performance. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363900] Re: [i945GM] (Needs UXA) X.org freezes with intel driver, no apparent trigger
This looks kind of like bug #367275, which I’ve been struggling with. Steve, when you had this problem, do you remember if Xorg.0.log.old had the mimetype application/x-trash? (That would have made it difficult to open in the text editor or the log viewer, as nothing will recognize it as a regular text file, even if it has regular text data and will open fine if you tell the text editor specifically to do so.) That’s been the symptom for me. I’ll try some alternate settings, now -- [i945GM] (Needs UXA) X.org freezes with intel driver, no apparent trigger https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
