[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 336135] Re: [RV350] xserver-xorg-video-ati driver with compiz has glitches with Google Earth

2009-05-29 Thread Rocko
FYI, I still get the bug in the latest Jaunty with compiz
1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2.

I can confirm that the driver doesn't support DRI2 on my card
(Xorg.0.log says (II) Loading extension DRI2 / (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is
not DRI2 capable).

If it is a DRI2 issue, is this bug related to bug #96991? Oddly, that
bug says xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.12.2 was uploaded to main on May 12th
but apt-get only offers 6.12.1 (and I've got proposed and everything
enabled).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359831] Re: [i945gm] all video players crash with BadAlloc error (no Compiz)

2009-05-29 Thread Guillaume Deshors
Same exact problem for me ; xv stopped working with the "X11 error: BadAlloc"
thing after upgrading to jaunty. Adding Driver 'intel' doesn't make any
difference. Playing videos with x11 is awfully slow on this machine, sometimes
even in 800x600, so it's not an acceptable fallback.
I'm convinced that this is related to the version of the intel driver ; I tried
to downgrade but couldn't make X run with an older version. Couldn't the 8.10
version be backported and made available in jaunty as a workaround ? The bug is
very annoying.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305054] Re: [i945G] Problems in Video Rendering

2009-05-29 Thread Andrew Ash
Great! I'll mark the bug as closed then.

The reason it's closed with the PPA driver and not the regular is that
the PPA is a "sneak preview" of what's coming down the road for updates
to the normal repositories. If the PPA driver fixes something then that
fix will probably end up in the mainline shortly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i830MG, i845, (and i945GM?) video cards

2009-05-29 Thread jerrylamos
Edgers on i839 put in driver Intel with 1.6.1.901 version 2.7.99

Gtkperf slowed way down from 35 to 65. Oops, wrong way.

Tried downgrading to get back to previous level. Didn't work, still
2.7.99 lousy performance.

So I'm putting Alpha 1 Alternate CD back on it, hope to get back to
where it was before edgers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2009-05-29 Thread BobRoss
After trying out a few other distros (the newest Linux Mint, and the
latest Mandriva) I've still had the same problem. I finally did a fresh
install of Mint 6 (almost the same as Intrepid) and I'm no longer having
the bug problem. I know some people here reported this bug on Gutsy and
Hardy, so I'm guessing they're really separate bugs, as Hardy and
Intrepid both work fine for me.

Before giving up on Linux, I'd recommend trying different versions out
(rather than the newest versions of different distros, that all use the
same or similar kernels/versions of X). Note, I did not need to install
the distros to get the bug, I got it while running them from CDs...so
worst case scenario you waste a few hours and a couple CDs before
switching to back Windows.

Again, I'm a total linux newb, so if I'm saying anything blatantly
wrong, feel free to correct me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314566] Re: gdm/xdm/kdm crash if running two card setup

2009-05-29 Thread jmvidal
I have the same problem. Attached is my xorg.conf. When I use as is it
works: I get 3 monitors each running a separate X sessions (I can move
the mouse across them but I cannot move windows across screens, as, I
think, is expected).

But, if I change the xorg.conf to have

Option "Xinerama" "on"

instead of "off" then I get the same "Gdk-ERROR: unable to find a usable depth
aborting..." when I try to "startx". I also noticed that if I just run "X" that
it runs fine with no crash.

Does anyone have a work around?

I have experienced the problem again even though the mouse was connected
directly to the laptop. The root of the problem is very elusive. I
really don't want to buy another hardware, that's not the solution at
all. As far as I am concerned, the only option I have left is to try
another linux distribution and hope for the best. But this issue is
found on other distro too... so maybe I should just give up with Linux.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i830MG, i845, (and i945GM?) video cards

2009-05-29 Thread jerrylamos
Bryce,

I'm not sure what you want tested. I looked at the notes preceding
yours and they mentioned a bunch of different things to try.

Perhaps you mean the (Bleeding-Edge) in ubuntuforums Jaunty Intel
Performance Guide?

Here's where I am. Everything's running karmic updated as of today, however
there haven't been many updates the last few days.

i845 on this IBM ThinkCentre A30 tower 2 gHz Celeron 1 gb memory with karmic
will run:

Driver "Intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
Option "Tiling" "false" # tiling scrambles up GlxGears display

it runs GtkPerf of 38 to 41. Flash video jerky.

With
Driver "vesa"

it runs GtkPerf of 28 to 29. Flash video jerky.

(!). Go figure. Obviously I run with "vesa" on the i845, except for
testing purposes.

I'm into applications, firefox, flash video internet news, openoffice
write & calc, internet mail, digital picture manipulation, ... so I
consider Compiz a hindrance because it steals CPU cycles for fancy
desktop effects. Hence I turn it off even on the pc's where it will
work.

i830 on IBM Thinkpad R31 1.0 gHz Celeron karmic

Driver "vesa" gets flickering black screen. Can't use "vesa".

With default driver 2.7.0 which says it is for i830M etc. in Xorg.0.log
I assume it's running "uxa".

GtkPerf is about 35. Flash video jerky.

On Thinkpad T40 ati video GtkPerf is about 13. That's a 1.5 gHz Pentium,
karmic. Flash video good.
On Compaq Presario ati video 3.3 gHz GtkPerf gets 10 or a little less. Flash
video nice.

Conclusion the i845 Celeron 2.0 gHz is relatively slower which was my
opinion even on XP.

Jaunty and Karmic have not been usable on the i830 because of "font
smear", see Bugzilla bug 21415. Intrepid runs fine, granted I don't do
Compiz.

They claim to have a fix in process but I don't know how to test it, or
whether Ubuntu will pick up the fix. Do you have any clue?

Let me have a go at karmic with (Bleeding-Edge) suggestions on the i830.
It's a bit of a slog to do much with the fonts smearing all the time
making it hard to read the screen. i845 should be doable if I can
understand & follow the myriad steps.

Thanks, Jerry

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2009-05-29 Thread Mark Schreiber
This is still present for me in Jaunty.

Unless the problem that Harvey and I are seeing is different (which
seems very unlikely; both of us have Inspiron 1420s, both of us see the
problem only with swapcaps, and both of us see the same symptoms: a key-
up event for some regular key does not make it up out of evdev, making
xorg think that the key is still down -- but the kernel knows that the
key is up, as it does not generate auto-repeat events, and the problem
does not thus "show up" on the console, where key repeats come from
kernel-generated autorepeat events rather than the key behing held
down), I expect that the problem is actually still present for Harvey
too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 358793] Re: UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load

Why? Isn't UNR targeted to low-end laptops AKA netbooks? If so, why is
it absolutely non-functional on one of them (HP2133)? I suppose UNR has
to work with low performance graphic adapters in software emulation
mode. Let it be not eye-candy, but fast enough.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong

2009-05-29 Thread mathew
I just had this problem.

I managed to get mouse warping between screens to work again by holding
down the right shift key, believe it or not.

So it seems as though there's some kind of interaction going on between
modifier keys and transitions between screens.

I don't know what triggered the condition, however.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381746] [NEW] [jaunty] desktop flickers through OpenGL screensavers with Desktop Effects

2009-05-29 Thread tmerriam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I am running 32 bit Kubuntu Jaunty on a Toshiba A135 with Intel GMA950.
When Desktop Effects are enabled and an OpenGL screensaver is activated,
parts of the desktop will flicker through it. When the mouse is moved,
the screensaver will disappear, showing the entire desktop behind it,
but it might also go completely black. After a few seconds of typing the
password to unlock, the screensaver will reappear with the password
prompt partially flickering through it. It still successfully unlocks.
The problem is most noticeable with the screensavers Flux and Euphoria,
though all OpenGL screensavers I've tested exhibit the problem to some
extent.

Kern.log shows the following shortly after running locking/unlocking:
[87803.147414] [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6

Works for this are disabling Desktop Effects or using a non-OpenGL
screensaver.

X seems entirely autoconfigured, and xorg.conf doesn't contain much.

Xorg is version 7.4, xserver version 1.6.0, with xserver-xorg-video-
intel2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9

I have attached Xorg.log and lspci -vvv, let me know if more or more
detailed info is needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 358421] Re: video frames aren't synched to vblank

2009-05-29 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
For the record, I get the exact same tearing behavior I described
originally with 180.* drivers (even earlier ones IIRC) and with
185.18.10.

Also, with mplayer at least it happens similarly with VDPAU and with
other output methods (xv, x11 and opengl). The tearing is not exactly
similar in that it occurs more visibly (I think because of worse
processor usage) and not exactly in the same spot (it's still in the top
part of the frame, but not as constant in position as for VDPAU).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong

2009-05-29 Thread Nicholas Wheeler
Neat, I can replicate this bug. If on my second monitor, if I tail the
Xorg.0.log and hold down Enter, I occasionally see *only* the
"miPointerConstrainCursor: Invalid input device pointer" message...but
nothing acts up. If I switch over to my third or fourth monitor however,
I start to see "miPointerWarpCursor: and miPointerUpdateSprite:" errors.
When holding enter, and I go to the third monitor, it will "jump" over
to the fourth monitorbut I can go back "left" to my third monitor
and that seems to work fine. However, if I go to the fourth monitor and
the mouse hovers *over* any application (tested: gnome-terminal,
firefox, vmware), it'll "loop" within the fourth monitor...over the
application. If I put the mouse over the desktop, and then try to go
back left to the third/second/first monitor, it works (this is all the
while holding down enter on the tail).

Not sure if this clears up anything or notbut it is an interesting
bug.

2009-05-29 Thread karbak
Another data point - this flicker issue is happening for me (running an
updated 9.04) on a Thinkpad T60p with an ATI FireGL V5250 graphics card
when it's connected to a 1680x1050 Dell 2209WA external display. There
seem to be vertical regions that run the height of the screen, about
10-20 pixels across where, if the cursor is present, flickering is
triggered. There are about 5 of vertical strips, roughly equally spaced
on the 1400x1050 laptop display.

lspci output and Xorg.0.log attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-29 Thread keepitsimpleengr
My comment on 2009-05-13 is incorrect.

The screen garbage appears after invoking "nautilus-open-terminal" on
screen 2 of 2.

This is repeatable.

Right clicking on screen 2 of 2 opens the context menu. Selecting "Open
in terminal" will open the terminal window.

After this, the artifacts will appear on both screens when resizing
windows.

This is a workaround for gnome bug 580103

This is probably related to Ubuntu 346964

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
@Dimitry, from your data you appear to have a separate bug from Andrew.
Also, both your issue and Andrew's are believed by upstream to be fixed
in newer versions of the driver.

@Andrew, I'm closing this bug as fixed now, but if you can reproduce it
with Karmic Alpha-2 or newer feel free to reopen and include a full
backtrace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365527] Re: [i945g] Screen freezes when using an evtouch touchscreen

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Since we've begun work on Karmic, it would be interesting to hear if
this issue still exists there. Test using the xorg-edgers repository
since that contains several X updates that we will be pulling in the
coming weeks, so it would be good to know whether or not the issue is
still present there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 186095] Re: [i915] Configuration failed on MPC client pro all-in-one 414

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Chris,

I just had a chance to speak with an upstream developer about your
issue. He said perhaps it was caused by your SDVO card was either not
seated correctly or not connected right inside your machine. In any
case we've not seen anyone else with this same issue so I am going to
guess it is something peculiar to your hardware, not something we can
solve directly in Ubuntu. Thanks for reporting the bug though,
hopefully it's all resolved now for you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365994] Re: [i915] X freeze due to end of aperture kernel issue

2009-05-29 Thread Milan
Sorry if the new bug is different form the old one, but I'm not able to
read these dumps.

About the patches: the commit you refer to above is the same as
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=2580613f4c435ebf2a7c150ffa714f3b23b8e4e8cb42f
which you cited before, but with a different signature (I guess you know that,
but I was confused). It's included in 2.6.30rc6 and does not appear to fix the
freeze. That may come from the fact that the freeze I get now is not the same.

Do you want me to open another report?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365994] Re: [i915] X freeze due to end of aperture issue

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Btw, from the dri dumps it looks like this freeze is a different bug
than the original one you reported. Of course, symptoms with freezes
are identical, but anyway.

jbarnes thinks this latest freeze should be fixed by the aperture kernel
patch. The offset shown in the dri dump is awfully close to the
aperture boundary (256k), which is what that fix addresses. So we'll
need that kernel patch in order to fix this one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 369518] Re: System hangs booting 9.04 (desktop, server, xubuntu) live or installed via. alternative cd

2009-05-29 Thread 8200
Hi Bryce,

today I started the notebook with empty battery booting from xubuntu 9.04 and
it really worked. So I copied the xorg.log and restarted just to test if it
really works again, but it hanged during booting...

When it hangs during booting I even can't switch to strg+alt+f1 console.
So how could I post the xorg.log when it hangs?

Regards arthur

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 339091] Re: [i945] (Needs UXA) X freezes a few minutes after resuming

2009-05-29 Thread Zack Evans
There absoutely are freeze bugs in UXA and EXA both in the default
Jaunty configuration, so we need an SRU of some type, even if it's a bug
that affects performance.

The good news is that a whole bunch of them are fixed, either in kernel
updates or in updates in -proposed - so with a little time devoted to
packaging the smallest possible SRU (I'd suggest 2.7.1, the MTRR fixes,
and some sort of fix for the tiling stuff, maybe a cherry-pick), we can
at least make Jaunty work out of the box, probably using EXA and Greedy
migration, since that seems to work for most people I've seen posting on
these bugs, at a reasonable level of performance.

Anyhoo, the even better news is that EXA and UXA are BOTH rock solid for
me under .30rc7, or a patched kernel (from one of these bugs), and
desktop performance is acceptable. Game performance isn't what it should
be but I now realise that UXA and DRI2 is the way to go, and bleeding-
edge gamers will have to wait for Karma and we can't fix the Intel
issues from where we are standing. That's life!

So in summary - I think 2.7.1 really does fix this bug - it did for me.

UXA has all sorts of cosmetic problems and the font-corruption bug comes
and goes, but I guess I'll need to upgrade to Karmic before there's any
point in reporting bugs against UXA. UXA is about half the speed of EXA
for 3d apps (but MIGHT be slightly quicker in 2d.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Actually nevermind, I just talked to jbarnes and he confirmed it is not
yet implemented however keith packard is working on it and it is
targeted to the .31 kernel. So we don't need a testing page, and this
bug can be closed once the .31 released kernel is available and we've
verified displayport works on it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver

2009-05-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Geir, would you mind creating a page on wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/ for
setting up and testing displayport, with a table for people to add
results, sort of like the UxaTesting page? That might be the easiest
way to collect the testing data upstream needs.

Especially if the issues are monitor-specific, I don't want this bug
report to become an endless discussion of unsupported monitors. Once
oencke's issue is worked out we can close this one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 283128] Re: Keyboard indicator shows additional layout "null"

2009-05-29 Thread Gerhard Radatz
Thomas, I tried your patch
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/283128/comments/37)
with my recent jaunty installation. Since I have a 64-Bit installation, I had
to compile the package myself following your directions, but everything worked
fine.

I can confirm that this bug now disappeared, but still there is this
other issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/286158), where
opening windows switches the keyboard layout which is really annoying.
This also happens very often when, for example, IntelliJ opens a
subwindow, so the layout switches unexpectedly, thus causing erroneous
inputs very often. Do you have an idea how this could be fixed?

2009-05-29 Thread m4lte
I can confirm the bug as it has previously been described. I'm using a laptop
without external keyboard and I'm running 9.04 with all stable updates.
- I use two layouts US and German.
- After booting everything is fine for "some time".
- When I change something in the keyboard layout options (e.g. add and remove
an additional layout) everything is fine for "some time".
- After "some time" I get an additional layout "??" which mimics one of the
other layouts I'm using.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info

2009-05-29 Thread Amit Kucheria
For everyone that has sent their lshal output to this bug, try the
following:

$ lsusb
Find your vendor id and product id for the touchscreen.
$ modprobe usbtouchscreen
$ sudo sh -c "echo   >
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbtouchscreen/new_id"

e.g. From my lsusb, one of the entries is:
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader

So the vendor id is 0483, device id is 2016.

So the above command would become something like:
$ sudo sh -c "echo 0483 2016 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/newfingerprintdriver/new_id"

Please report back if your touchscreen starts working.
