[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 336135] Re: [RV350] xserver-xorg-video-ati driver with compiz has glitches with Google Earth
FYI, I still get the bug in the latest Jaunty with compiz 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2. I can confirm that the driver doesn't support DRI2 on my card (Xorg.0.log says (II) Loading extension DRI2 / (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359831] Re: [i945gm] all video players crash with BadAlloc error (no Compiz)
Same exact problem for me ; xv stopped working with the "X11 error: BadAlloc" thing after upgrading to jaunty. Adding Driver 'intel' doesn't make any difference. Playing videos with x11 is awfully slow on this machine, sometimes even in 800x600, so it's not an acceptable fallback. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)
After trying out a few other distros (the newest Linux Mint, and the latest Mandriva) I've still had the same problem. I finally did a fresh install of Mint 6 (almost the same as Intrepid) and I'm no longer having the bug problem. I know some people here reported this bug on Gutsy and Hardy, so I'm guessing they're really separate bugs, as Hardy and Intrepid both work fine for me. Before giving up on Linux, I'd recommend trying different versions out (rather than the newest versions of different distros, that all use the same or similar kernels/versions of X). Note, I did not need to install the distros to get the bug, I got it while running them from CDs...so worst case scenario you waste a few hours and a couple CDs before switching to back Windows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i830MG, i845, (and i945GM?) video cards
Bryce, I'm not sure what you want tested. I looked at the notes preceding yours and they mentioned a bunch of different things to try. Perhaps you mean the (Bleeding-Edge) in ubuntuforums Jaunty Intel Performance Guide? Here's where I am. Everything's running karmic updated as of today, however there haven't been many updates the last few days. i845 on this IBM ThinkCentre A30 tower 2 gHz Celeron 1 gb memory with karmic will run: Driver "Intel" Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" Option "Tiling" "false" # tiling scrambles up GlxGears display it runs GtkPerf of 38 to 41. Flash video jerky. With Driver "vesa" it runs GtkPerf of 28 to 29. Flash video jerky. (!). Go figure. Obviously I run with "vesa" on the i845, except for testing purposes. I'm into applications, firefox, flash video internet news, openoffice write & calc, internet mail, digital picture manipulation, ... so I consider Compiz a hindrance because it steals CPU cycles for fancy desktop effects. Hence I turn it off even on the pc's where it will work. i830 on IBM Thinkpad R31 1.0 gHz Celeron karmic Driver "vesa" gets flickering black screen. Can't use "vesa". With default driver 2.7.0 which says it is for i830M etc. in Xorg.0.log I assume it's running "uxa". GtkPerf is about 35. Flash video jerky. On Thinkpad T40 ati video GtkPerf is about 13. That's a 1.5 gHz Pentium, karmic. Flash video good. On Compaq Presario ati video 3.3 gHz GtkPerf gets 10 or a little less. Flash video nice. Conclusion the i845 Celeron 2.0 gHz is relatively slower which was my opinion even on XP. Jaunty and Karmic have not been usable on the i830 because of "font smear", see Bugzilla bug 21415. Intrepid runs fine, granted I don't do Compiz. They claim to have a fix in process but I don't know how to test it, or whether Ubuntu will pick up the fix. Do you have any clue? Let me have a go at karmic with (Bleeding-Edge) suggestions on the i830. It's a bit of a slog to do much with the fonts smearing all the time making it hard to read the screen. i845 should be doable if I can understand & follow the myriad steps. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)
This is still present for me in Jaunty. Unless the problem that Harvey and I are seeing is different (which seems very unlikely; both of us have Inspiron 1420s, both of us see the problem only with swapcaps, and both of us see the same symptoms: a key- up event for some regular key does not make it up out of evdev, making xorg think that the key is still down -- but the kernel knows that the key is up, as it does not generate auto-repeat events, and the problem does not thus "show up" on the console, where key repeats come from kernel-generated autorepeat events rather than the key behing held down), I expect that the problem is actually still present for Harvey too. -- Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I just had this problem. I managed to get mouse warping between screens to work again by holding down the right shift key, believe it or not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381746] [NEW] [jaunty] desktop flickers through OpenGL screensavers with Desktop Effects
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I am running 32 bit Kubuntu Jaunty on a Toshiba A135 with Intel GMA950. When Desktop Effects are enabled and an OpenGL screensaver is activated, parts of the desktop will flicker through it. When the mouse is moved, the screensaver will disappear, showing the entire desktop behind it, but it might also go completely black. After a few seconds of typing the password to unlock, the screensaver will reappear with the password prompt partially flickering through it. It still successfully unlocks. The problem is most noticeable with the screensavers Flux and Euphoria, though all OpenGL screensavers I've tested exhibit the problem to some extent. Kern.log shows the following shortly after running locking/unlocking: [87803.147414] [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6 Works for this are disabling Desktop Effects or using a non-OpenGL screensaver. X seems entirely autoconfigured, and xorg.conf doesn't contain much. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 358421] Re: video frames aren't synched to vblank
For the record, I get the exact same tearing behavior I described originally with 180.* drivers (even earlier ones IIRC) and with 185.18.10. Also, with mplayer at least it happens similarly with VDPAU and with other output methods (xv, x11 and opengl). The tearing is not exactly similar in that it occurs more visibly (I think because of worse processor usage) and not exactly in the same spot (it's still in the top part of the frame, but not as constant in position as for VDPAU). -- video frames aren't synched to vblank https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358421 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong
Neat, I can replicate this bug. If on my second monitor, if I tail the Xorg.0.log and hold down Enter, I occasionally see *only* the "miPointerConstrainCursor: Invalid input device pointer" message...but nothing acts up. If I switch over to my third or fourth monitor however, I start to see "miPointerWarpCursor: and miPointerUpdateSprite:" errors. When holding enter, and I go to the third monitor, it will "jump" over to the fourth monitorbut I can go back "left" to my third monitor and that seems to work fine. However, if I go to the fourth monitor and the mouse hovers *over* any application (tested: gnome-terminal, firefox, vmware), it'll "loop" within the fourth monitor...over the application. If I put the mouse over the desktop, and then try to go back left to the third/second/first monitor, it works (this is all the while holding down enter on the tail). Not sure if this clears up anything or notbut it is an interesting bug. -- [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sorry if the new bug is different form the old one, but I'm not able to read these dumps. It's included in 2.6.30rc6 and does not appear to fix the freeze. That may come from the fact that the freeze I get now is not the same. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365994] Re: [i915] X freeze due to end of aperture issue
Btw, from the dri dumps it looks like this freeze is a different bug than the original one you reported. Of course, symptoms with freezes are identical, but anyway. jbarnes thinks this latest freeze should be fixed by the aperture kernel patch. The offset shown in the dri dump is awfully close to the aperture boundary (256k), which is what that fix addresses. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 339091] Re: [i945] (Needs UXA) X freezes a few minutes after resuming
There absoutely are freeze bugs in UXA and EXA both in the default Jaunty configuration, so we need an SRU of some type, even if it's a bug that affects performance. The good news is that a whole bunch of them are fixed, either in kernel updates or in updates in -proposed - so with a little time devoted to packaging the smallest possible SRU (I'd suggest 2.7.1, the MTRR fixes, and some sort of fix for the tiling stuff, maybe a cherry-pick), we can at least make Jaunty work out of the box, probably using EXA and Greedy migration, since that seems to work for most people I've seen posting on these bugs, at a reasonable level of performance. Anyhoo, the even better news is that EXA and UXA are BOTH rock solid for me under .30rc7, or a patched kernel (from one of these bugs), and desktop performance is acceptable. Game performance isn't what it should be but I now realise that UXA and DRI2 is the way to go, and bleeding- edge gamers will have to wait for Karma and we can't fix the Intel issues from where we are standing. That's life! So in summary - I think 2.7.1 really does fix this bug - it did for me. UXA has all sorts of cosmetic problems and the font-corruption bug comes and goes, but I guess I'll need to upgrade to Karmic before there's any point in reporting bugs against UXA. UXA is about half the speed of EXA for 3d apps (but MIGHT be slightly quicker in 2d.) -- [i945] (Needs UXA) X freezes a few minutes after resuming https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Geir, would you mind creating a page on wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/ for setting up and testing displayport, with a table for people to add results, sort of like the UxaTesting page? That might be the easiest way to collect the testing data upstream needs. Especially if the issues are monitor-specific, I don't want this bug report to become an endless discussion of unsupported monitors. Once oencke's issue is worked out we can close this one. -- [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378617 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 283128] Re: Keyboard indicator shows additional layout "null"
Thomas, I tried your patch (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/283128/comments/37) with my recent jaunty installation. Since I have a 64-Bit installation, I had to compile the package myself following your directions, but everything worked fine. I can confirm that this bug now disappeared, but still there is this other issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/286158), where opening windows switches the keyboard layout which is really annoying. This also happens very often when, for example, IntelliJ opens a subwindow, so the layout switches unexpectedly, thus causing erroneous inputs very often. Do you have an idea how this could be fixed? -- Keyboard indicator shows additional layout "null" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 283128] Re: Keyboard indicator shows additional layout "null"
I can confirm the bug as it has previously been described. I'm using a laptop without external keyboard and I'm running 9.04 with all stable updates. - I use two layouts US and German. - After booting everything is fine for "some time". - When I change something in the keyboard layout options (e.g. add and remove an additional layout) everything is fine for "some time". - After "some time" I get an additional layout "??" which mimics one of the other layouts I'm using.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info
For everyone that has sent their lshal output to this bug, try the following: $ lsusb Find your vendor id and product id for the touchscreen. $ modprobe usbtouchscreen $ sudo sh -c "echo > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbtouchscreen/new_id" e.g. From my lsusb, one of the entries is: Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader So the vendor id is 0483, device id is 2016. So the above command would become something like: $ sudo sh -c "echo 0483 2016 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/newfingerprintdriver/new_id" Please report back if your touchscreen starts working. -- evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-evtouch in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
