[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] glxgears low fps

2009-06-08 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
After testing the patch on amd64, I have not noticed any instabilities,
and all GL programs tested so far seem to work normally and much faster.
The whole system is tremendously more responsive and my GLX gears get
double the scores on my Radeon 200M that it was getting with the
unpatched mesa. The results were immediately noticeable upon
installation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355508] Re: [i945gm] Kubuntu: corrupt login screen and X freeze on startup when using desktop effects (UXA bug)

2009-06-08 Thread Peter T Hayward
Today I installed kernel 2.6.30-rc8- now testing.
When I tried 2.6.30-rc2 (only runs with no UXA setting) my desktop kept
freezing and had to unfreeze by switching terminals often.
With 2.6.30-rc8 (no UXA) I get a clean login screen and no desktop freezes
(after 30 mins)
I have now switched on UXA in xorg.conf and I still get a clean login screen.
No freezes on desktop in first 10 mins (with earlier kernel I would have had
several freezes in that time).
So first impression is that rc8 has fixed the graphics problems that I was
getting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355508] Re: [i945gm] Kubuntu: corrupt login screen and X freeze on startup when using desktop effects (UXA bug)

2009-06-08 Thread Peter T Hayward
Spoke too soon. After a complete reboot into 2.6.30-rc8 with UXA on I get the
corrupt screen as before and complete X lock up after login. My previous report
was after just restarting the X server having set UXA on (Xorg.0.log did report
loading UXA).
So the desktop freeze problem (first seen in rc2) may have been fixed by rc8,
but not the X lock up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384730] [NEW] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers

2009-06-08 Thread jpiesing
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I was advised to upgrade to version 2.7.1 of the intel drivers from
x-updates in order to get dual-screen to work (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/379805). Since then, about once per day, the screen just goes
completely black. Control+Alt+F1 gets me a command line but nothing
makes X work again except for rebooting. What appears in syslog when
this happens is;

Jun 8 08:58:17 cameron kernel: [41066.989758] [drm:i915_setparam] *ERROR*
unknown parameter 4
Jun 8 08:58:17 cameron kernel: [41066.989789] [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR*

Jun 8 08:58:26 cameron kernel: [41075.594275] [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter]
*ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0

The files automatically attached by ubuntu-bug are *after* a reboot.
Manually attached are copies of some of the files taken before the
reboot.

There are quite a few hits when I google for the last entry in syslog.

This sounds a little like 305227 but that goes pack to 8.10 and this is
extremely recent.

This problem did not happen with vanilla jaunty - only after after
installing 2.7.1. Of course various other package updates were installed
while trying to solve the problems with 379805 and it could be one of
them. I apologise if this is not the correct package to report this bug
against.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 303224] Re: garbled Emacs display when running under compiz with nvidia drivers

2009-06-08 Thread fafhrd
Switching the Appearance-Visual Effects to None is also an annoying
work around since it destroys ones workspaces, and re-parents all the
windows to the new first workspace.

Does anyone have a better work-around? I just switched to None, while
at my office, where I do most of my Emacs and Open Office usage, and
just lost my train of thought completely -- since I use workspaces to
keep track of different projects that I'm working on.

Can an enlightened dev let us know if there is an nvidia module
parameter than might fix this?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379157] Re: [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens)

2009-06-08 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
From what I have seen from other users, there hasn't been a whole lot
of performance change between 2.4.1 and 2.7.1. Many users report
significant improvement for 2.7.99.1 which is in Karmic now. It will
probably be 2.7.8 by the time Karmic is out, and hopefully it will be
with a solution to your problem. So I would suggest that you keep the
package that is working for you at the moment.

Now, upstream will have to figure out if the best way to solve this
problem is to outright revert the problematic patch or do something
different. You will probably be asked to test another patch soon, but
it may take a little while. You may take a look this bug (which is
similar except that a VGA was sometimes detected when it wasn't there)
for how things may proceed:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20463
Hopefully, it won't take as long, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380126] Re: [Karmic] Touchpad not recognised correctly, synaptics driver not in use

As I said, the synaptics driver is not being used.

c...@inspiron:~$ grep -i synaptics /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) LoadModule: synaptics
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input//synaptics_drv.so
(II) Module synaptics: vendor=X.Org Foundation
(II) Synaptics touchpad driver version 1.1.0

Note: although the output indicates the module is loaded, that doesn't
mean it is in use.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380126] Re: [Karmic] Touchpad not recognised correctly, synaptics driver not in use

2009-06-08 Thread Conn
Hmm, now I'm not so certain. Although there is no output indicating that
the synaptics driver is being used (as opposed to merely being loaded),
it seems the driver is in use.

I tried to manually enable tap-to-click via synclient TapButton1=1 -
and it worked. I also tried to remove the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
package,, and the mouse behaviour changed after restarting X (mouse
movements were accelerated too much). This indicates that the synaptics
driver was being used correctly.

In Jaunty and earlier I would see output in my Xorg.0.log similar to
SRElysian in comment #14; perhaps the newest driver in Karmic does not
display this information any longer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377545] Re: The characters/fonts get covered with dark square blocks

2009-06-08 Thread Brian Murray
Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that
Screenshot-20.png was flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to
an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug, since this was not one I've
unchecked the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind the
definition of a patch. You can learn more about what qualifies as a
patch at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Patches. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367409] Re: Bad support for ATI RS690 / X1200 graphics card

2009-06-08 Thread Hadmut Danisch
xorg.conf:

I've tried different drivers, such as radeonhd and fglrx.

I've forced the resolution into 1440x900, since the computer is
connected via HDMI to a flat panel TV, which has a physical resolution
of 1440x900, but always lists these resolutions for multimedia
compatibility:

% xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050
default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1680x1050 60.0*
   1400x1050 60.0
   1280x1024 60.0
   1440x900 60.0
   1280x960 60.0
   1360x768 60.0
   1152x864 60.0
   1024x768 60.0
   800x60060.0 56.0
   640x48060.0

which makes xorg choose a wrong resolution (being interpolated) by the
TV.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 319717] Re: [iGM45] Connecting external monitor causes system to lock up.

2009-06-08 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Guys,

Would you be willing to test the latest mainline kernel build,
2.6.30-rc8 as of this posting.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds

We'll want to open an upstream bug report to make sure the upstream
developers are aware if this does exist upstream. Otherwise we'll want
to figure out what patch may have fixed this upstream and will need to
be applied to the actively developed Ubuntu kernel. Please let us know
your results. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] glxgears low fps

2009-06-08 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
Irom Nike: You should be able to try out the .deb file posted above, but
be warned that it is an untested binary and may break something. If you
installed the jaunty-updates version of mesa, then you may need all the
mesa related packages updated with the patch versions. I am on my
laptop (a 64bit platform) right now and 300kms from home, but I could
assist in compiling a full set of 32bit binaries once I get home, since
my home server is a 32bit OS. I might even be able to compile them
remotely, but I have been having troubles with that computer since I
upgraded it to jaunty (Almost a cliche). It isn't jaunty's fault on
that machine, it has been sick for some time, the upgrade just exposed
its issues.

BTW. I have done more tests with that patch against desktop effects,
games, wined3d, etc. It has been rock solid for me, but my computer has
no TCL. I am uncertain whether a card with TCL would break or not.

Bryce Harrington: I am curious if a personal ppa is in order? Will this
patch get pushed to updates or backports? If not, I am ok to open a ppa
in the mean time for only those with cards that are suffering until the
radeon-rewrite code becomes the norm. In testing this code on my 200M
fairly well with all the 3d pressure of desktop effects with magic lamp
and desktop cube enabled, it hasn't crashed once and has run like a
dream. It is faster than I ever remember my card functioning and the
constant memory leak issues that I used to experience seem to have gone
away. Videos that used to pin my cpu (3d texture mapped) now don't even
make the computer busy at all. 3D video games run faster than I ever
remember them running, and likewise don't tax the computer anymore, and
the general stability of the system seems to have improved. Obviously,
because of the reduced cpu usage my computer consistently runs cooler
and the battery lasts longer. I would like those with TCL capabilities
to offer their experiences too. If it locks up TCL supporting cards, we
obviously can't send the patch to the updates repo, but we can reserve
it only to certain models in a ppa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 146859] Re: No dri (and therefore no compiz) for virtual screen greater than 2048x2048

2009-06-08 Thread mjpelmear
Henri Cook:

I had the same jumpy issue when upgrading to Jaunty.

Fixed it using a solution from further up in comments-- adding Option
AccelMethod xaa to my xorg.conf

I'm not sure what xaa does (I'll do some reading later today, 'cause
I'm curious now) but it significantly improved my user experience
(i945/GM).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384934] [NEW] Xorg very slow after upgrade

2009-06-08 Thread Fabien Tassin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

UNR / Karmic on a Samsung NC10.

It was working reasonably fast, the previous update was during UDS.
I updated one week later and UNR has been unusable since.
The netbook-launcher process is taking all the CPU, and it takes about 10 to 15
seconds to refresh the display.

It seems everything is now soft rendered.
Difficult to say which package caused this, there were too many.
I tried to downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel from 2.7.99 to 2.7.1 and also
boot on 2.6.30-5 (which was fine before), no change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380126] Re: [Karmic] Touchpad not recognised correctly, synaptics driver not in use

2009-06-08 Thread Tom Wright
I would presume then that the bug is in the options being applied then,
in this case I think that Fedora is either using a newer version or a
patch as they have more options and it actually workes. Now that the
touchpad settings dialogue has gone upstream (from the Ubuntu patch), I
presume we just need to make sure that a sufficiently new version is
used and that there is not a Ubuntu patch clobbering the upstream
version. Of course I might be completely wrong but this seems the
solution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver

2009-06-08 Thread Piotr Morgwai KotarbiƄski
Hmm, looking at dates of filing it seems this bug should be the duplicate of
Bug #328484 rather, not the opposite...
Anyway, since this is where this issue is tracked now, I'll put info here:
https://launchpad.net/~morgwai/+archive/intel-displayport contains updated
packages of the driver supporting DisplayPort. It was built from the head of
display-port branch. Please move to the new PPA as the old packages may be
removed at some point.
Many thanks to Sarvatt who explained me where and how to get missing header
files.

Cheers

  Morg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376722] Re: [i945] i945 don't recognize 1440x900 on external monitor in jaunty

2009-06-08 Thread lugburz
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288807 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288807

Dear Gear,
You can maintain your idea about the source of the problem. But installing
the old 2.4 version of the intel driver the problem disappeared.

The xrandr --verbose output shows the 1440x900 modeline, and the EDID
informations. The only attention I need is to have a virtual size larger
than 1440x900 in both dimensions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 320671] Re: nv driver doesn't include the pci-id of my GeForce 7300 GT

2009-06-08 Thread Bojan Vitnik
Gaetan,
Sorry for answering this late, I've been very busy.

I thought of opening a new bug report but since it's related to this
one, infact it's basicaly the same bug, I didn't want to make another
duplicated bug but, if it's necessary, I'll make a new bug report.
Thank's for finding more video cards missing PCI-IDs, I didn't have time
to closely look at http://pciids.sourceforge.net/pci.ids. Thou, nv
driver maybe doesn't realy work with some of those cards - should be
tested.

As soon as I get some free time, I'll make a new bug report and maybe
find some volunteers that own those cards (I know a few people) to test
if nv driver is realy working with them by just adding proper PCI-IDs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 330989] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DamageUnregister()

2009-06-08 Thread NoBugs!
I notice a very similar crash on PIII old computer with 3dfx card.
Even with graphics safe mode livecd option, it just automatically logs in,
shows the desktop, crashes back to the login screen, logs in, crashes, goes
back to login screen and auto-logs in, etc. infinite loop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 319717] Re: [iGM45] Connecting external monitor causes system to lock up.

Just tried the new kernel (2.6.30-rc8 amd64) and the symptoms are exactly the
same. It would seem that this bug is probably a mainline issue.
