[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394489] Re: cannot get official via driver for s3 unichrome pro cn700 for ubuntu 8.10 intrepid to work with it!

2009-07-02 Thread Bartosz
The Ubuntu doesn't support original VIA driver.

We can help you only in openchrome driver, so use it.

Your hardware should be supported with openchrome driver:
http://www.openchrome.org/trac/wiki/SupportedHardware

Please attach your Xorg.0.log file.
It is located at /var/log/Xorg.0.log

also attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` command.

NOTE: This bug only occurs when compiz is enabled.

To create this bug, I switch my monitors (1280x800 and 1680x1050) to
mirrored 1024x768 in order to start compiz. (If I attempt to start
compiz while running both monitors at their native resolution, it says
Desktop effects could not be enabled. I turn on desktop effects, then
switch the monitors to their optimal resolutions. After I do that, a
region of the screen on the right side is not drawn correctly, as you
can see in the screenshot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290644] Re: Second keyboard layout can't be selected after suspend

2009-07-02 Thread Louis-Dominique Dubeau
I experience the same symptoms. I was not able to test it on 8.10
because my USB keyboard was not around. I'm running 9.04 now and ever
since I started using my USB keyboard again, I've had this issue. I
believe the issue was absent in 8.04 but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Here is an symptom I've noticed but which I think has not been reported
yet. I've set hitting Left Shift and Right Shift together a hot key
to toggle the keyboard layout, but:

1. If I hit the hot key on the USB keyboard, it is ignored.

2. If I hit the hot key on the internal laptop keyboard when the USB
keyboard is plugged in, the keyboard layout applet switches between
USA and ?? instead of USA and CAN.

2009-07-02 Thread zoff
Patch to make driver compilable is here:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28552081/drm_agp_memory-2.6.31.patch

I successfully compiled nvidia 185.18.14 driver on kernel 2.6.31-1 with these
commands:
cd /usr/src/nvidia-185.18.14/patches/
sudo wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28552081/drm_agp_memory-2.6.31.patch
sudo nano /usr/src/nvidia-185.18.14/dkms.conf

Add this line, save and exit:
PATCH[1]=drm_agp_memory-2.6.31.patch

sudo dkms build -m nvidia -v 185.18.14 -k 2.6.31-1-generic

2009-07-02 Thread Michal Matyska
zoff píše v Čt 02. 07. 2009 v 14:21 +:

Add this line, save and exit:

IMHO it is better also to add following line:

PATCH_MATCH[1]=^2.6.3[1]

so the patch is applied only if you build module for kernel ver 2.6.31,
otherwise it fails when you try to build the module for older kernels.

2009-07-02 Thread Anders Kaseorg
 PATCH_MATCH[1]=^2.6.3[1]

Why are there brackets in ^2.6.3[1]? I’ve seen that pattern in many
dkms.confs, but it doesn’t do anything; ^2.6.3[1] is the same regex as
^2.6.31.

Perhaps this idea came from a corruption of ^2.6.3[1-9], which at
least matches kernels 2.6.31 through 2.6.39?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394779] [NEW] [Karmic] No window border and keyboard input after installing fglrx 8.620

2009-07-02 Thread jiveaxe
Public bug reported:

As in the summary I got several problems after installing fglrx drivers
8.620 from karmic repo and test my Radeon 4850. After rebooting the
desktop shows correctly but:

* all windows haven't borders.

* it is impossible to open more than one application at a time, it
occupies all the desktop (panel included); hitting crtl+f1 pops kickoff
but is useless with mouse or keyboard; krunner pops in front but quickly
goes behind the application. ctrl+f3 and ctrl+f4 not work. I can close
application only from File menu (if any, see System Settings)

* all kde text fields aren't editable; gtk applications yes (firefox,
openoffice). The only kde application whose search text field is
editable is KPackageKit (?!).

* if I switch in a terminal with ctrl+alt+f1 I can't login since in my
user password there is a @ and AltGr not works.

I've switched back to xserver-xorg-video-radeon.

I'm using last kernel, 2.6.31-1-generic, in karmic 64bit full upgraded.

Some logs/file below.

Thanks

I just thought i'd point out i have had this same issue running Mandriva

The same problem when I run from gnome-terminal:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-07-02 Thread maestro_alubia
Apparently your instructions do not work for me.

Did your X crash or freeze?

So I basically can imagine 4 reasons why this instructions work for you
but not for me:

1) You experience a different bug than I am (maybe because you have different
hardware)
2) Your software-setup is different
3) Your configuration is different
4) I am not suffering from this bug anymore

I tested your instructions with Composite enabled and disabled in my
xorg.conf but X never crashed or freezed. Although my xorg did not crash
at all since I disabled Composite. But maybe thats just by chance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393129] Re: Corrupt screen, HP Brio, Matrox G100 (display: NEC LCD1860NX and others)

2009-07-02 Thread JohnWashington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-mga

Corrupt screen, HP Brio, Matrox G100 (display: NEC LCD1860NX and others)

HP Brio, Celeron 300MHz with 256Mb ram
- On board Matrox G100 8Mb
+ On board Matrox G100 2Mb
NEC LCD1860NX flat screen (native resolution 1280x1024)
+
+ [update] When I filed this originally I reported 8Mb video (possibly as a
result of
+ reading HP Brio reviews), but I now believe it to be 2Mb.

I have also tried a CRT display and had identical symptoms,
so I doubt this problem is specific for this screen.

The attached photo shows the display on first booting after
installing Ubuntu 9.04. It looks similar to a TV that's
lost the horizontal hold, and is also displaced a little to
the right and down. Although some features can be made out,
the content is shown as if 3 copies are overlaid in vertical
  stripes.

The next attached photo shows this more clearly, taken after
logging in blind. Note how, in the top panel, the time is
  visible in 3 places.

I found that Puppy and Mepix do not exhibit this problem.
The next experiment was to take the xorg.conf generated by
the Puppy wizard and reduce it to the following, replacing
  the empty /etc/X11/xorg.conf with:

   start
  Section ServerFlags
  Option RandR on

MonitorMonitor0
  DefaultDepth 16
  Subsection Display
  Depth 16
  Modes 1024x768
  EndSubsection
  EndSection
   end of xorg.conf

This still did not fix the display. Neither did changing
  /etc/gdm/gdm.conf GdmXserverTimeout=10 to 25 (following
advice in bug #319363). But making both changes gave a
  good 1024x768 display.

I downloaded an iso of Karmic alpha2 and installed this.
The symptoms were identical. However, now the change of
GdmXserverTimeout=10 isn't needed, though the change of
  xorg.conf still is.

- The G100 8Mb should be able to produce 1280x1024 resolution
- with at least 8-bit colour. Since this is the native resolution
- of the NEC display, this is what I would prefer.
+ The G100 2Mb should be able to produce 1280x1024 resolution
+ with 8-bit colour. Since this is the native resolution of the NEC
+ display, this is what I would prefer.

I'm happy to run any tests, and do complete reinstalls of any
distro. I also have various other displays available that I
  could try.

Though due to other commitments it may take several days for
  me to respond.

I have dumps of the /etc and /var/log trees from most of these
experiments; they're rather large, so you may prefer to ask for
  specific files.

In case you're wondering, no, the Brio isn't my regular desktop.
But it's a nice compact little box to take along to LUG meets.
Such machines are often discarded these days, yet are adequate
for disadvantaged people wanting very basic facilities. This
is likely to be their first exposure to Linux, so it's important
that Ubuntu works for them without intervention.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 382159] Re: [g45] (Needs kernel 2.6.31-rc1) Xorg freeze after resume (UXA bug) (KMS bug)

2009-07-02 Thread Roland Dreier
Interesting -- I am running a self-built kernel (basically ubuntu karmic
kernel + latest Linus git as of yesterday) and suspend/resume is solid
for me; I haven't seen any X hangs related to suspend since updating to
2.6.31-rc1 (and I suspend from an X session running compiz). I am using
a Lenovo X200 with GM45 graphics.

I do still see occasional GPU hangs but they don't seem related to
suspend -- they occur unpredictably, even on an idle session when the
system has never been suspended.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394807] [NEW] Windows don't drag correctly with dual monitors.

2009-07-02 Thread John
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I try to drag a window from one monitor to the other the windows
refuses to go past a certain point on the left monitor. I have 2
monitors. The left montor is at 1680x1050 resolution. The right
monitor is at 1280x1024 resolution. If I try to drag a window from the
left side to the right side, the left border of the window seems to
always stop at a certain point and the window refuses to drag from
there. No matter the size of the window, the left border of the window
seems to always stop about 1280 pixels in on the left montior.

The window seems to render fine on the right monitor, and the curser
moves freely between both monitors. I can stretch the right side of any
window all the way to the right side of my right monitor.

This is a fresh install of ubunu 9.04 64bit. I'm using an NVIDIA 8800GT
to drive both monitors. I haven't installed any special packages or
anything other than running updated.

I haven't done much to try fixing this. I thought I'd report it as is
since this wasn't happening on Hardy and I thought you'd prefer it to
work out of the box as it did before and trying to fix it might
destroy any chance of figuring out the cause of the issue.

2009-07-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 -
185.18.14-0ubuntu2

---
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (185.18.14-0ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * Add in drm_agp_memory-2.6.31.patch to enable 2.6.31 support
until NVIDIA has it in their next driver release. (LP: #394262)
- Thanks everyone in that bug for finding and testing this patch.
- Note: this patch appears to be a bit of a hack (removing i2c support)
so take it with a grain of salt if there are still problems.

Sorry, we ran out of space in the PPA so dropped them because they're
now available in Karmic proper. (Although, you will probably need to
run the .30 kernel since I hear .31 breaks -nvidia currently.)
Anyway, debs can be gotten from packages.ubuntu.com if you don't want to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 333127] Re: Firefox 3.1 and above crash on full screen flash video

2009-07-02 Thread roffik
I can confirm this bug on Firefox 3.5 downloaded from official Mozilla website
(in .tar.bz2), on Thinkpad T41 - ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. However, the
workaround works perfectly, I added to firefox (it's a bash script) this line:
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1

On my computer the symlink is set to
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2
Weird...

It appears more to be that compiz (if it is running at the time of

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 257711] Re: Fujistu Stylistic 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.6 broken

2009-07-02 Thread dark2star
Hi,

Thanks for the update.

Unfortunately, it didn't help. The system boots fine until starting X.
After a long while the screen fills with garbage and grows brighter.
More garbage...

As far as I understand it from the comments, the driver isn't able to
initialize the I2C communication with the monitor. At least the vesa
driver cannot find a suitable screen mode and thus exits. The intel
driver just aborts early.

Testing the device with a different operating system (Windows, Knoppix)
indicates that the hardware is in working order. An older Ubuntu version
(7.10) installs and works.

Would it be possible to check the parts of the code concerning i2c
inside the intel driver?

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 309739] Re: Display gets corrupted and garbled every 5-7 minutes when using compiz. VT switch which takes ~1min required to reset screen

2009-07-02 Thread Alistair Buxton
Steps to reproduce: none, it randomly happens every 5-10 minutes while
using compiz. Cannot reproduce with other (none compositing) WM, nor see
any kind of corruption in opengl games. Switching to VT clears the
corruption until the next time. Nothing freezes or crashes at any point.

 No love for jaunty?

The fix is not feasible for backporting directly into the released
Ubuntu, however we maintain a PPA with updated drivers you can give a
try to:

Note that -intel's driver architecture has changed extremely radically
between Jaunty and Karmic (which is why we had to ask people to test the
Alpha-2 CD instead of just installing a few debs on Jaunty.)

Attach your Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old from after attempting a boot.
If you're booting from a LiveCD you may need to switch to a console and
copy it to a USB key, or similar.

OK, will try xserver-xorg-video-
intel_2.7.99.901+git20090702.74227141-0ubuntu1 (one heck of a version
number there :)

It may take a while to find out if the hangs are fixed, since they don't
happen that often and are not very reproducible.

You should be able to reproduce it very quickly by changing the
screensaver timeout to the minimum, adjusting the Put the display to
sleep when inactive option in power settings to the minimum and leave
it for a minute or two if it helps any.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394985] [NEW] fglrx: Unknown symbol find_task_by_vpid

2009-07-02 Thread iMac
Public bug reported:

After updating to 2.6.31 and adding blacklists for drm, radeon and ttm
(module will not attempt to load with these other conflicting modules
present), I receive this unkown symbol message in dmesg. fglrx does not
load.

Notably, in previous 2.6.30 kernel we have no problem after unloading a
i915 conflicting module (no idea why this is happening, tracked
separately at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-
installer/+bug/392039). So its back to 2.6.30 for compiz for now.

A quick google did not help me figure out how to resolve this missing
dependency kernel dependency.
