[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 272560] Re: [i830] dell inspiron 2600 lcd unusable and corrupt

2009-07-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
I suspected that was so, thanks for confirming.
Btw, I would like it if you could subscribe directly to the upstream bug at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22595 so you can answer their
questions directly; if I'm in the role of a go-between you and upstream it
could delay how long it takes to get your issue sorted out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 364497] Re: [RV630-XT] Jaunty + fglrx + Xinerama crashes X (Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64)

2009-07-08 Thread Crimson_Fox
I believe so, to clarify: The functionality I was looking for is having
the desktop span two displays, but having the windows snap to a single
display when maximized. This wasn't possible under the previous driver
as it would crash when I attempted to enable dual displays in this
manner.

Can't hurt to attach my xorg conf and log, let me know if this is what
you're looking for.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 329559] Re: [i945] intrepid: 945GM Xorg config fails - intel driver

2009-07-08 Thread jim brown
Hi, I've tried Karmic - I get similar results

I tried a couple of configurations
1) Standard Karmic
2) My working config attached above
3) My xorg.conf with Intel driver

Only 2 presents a working gdm session; for 1 3 I had to fallback on the
console.
Note: It sounded like a session had started successfully somewhere :-) as I
heard the startup sound played and was wondering if the default display was
being sent to another output e.g. HD or TV output as opposed to VGA;
I'll try to test this later on this week.

Logs attached, for both the initial set up and my xorg.conf using the
Intel driver

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 392410] Re: [MIR] UNR packages

2009-07-08 Thread Steve Kowalik
MIR for netbook-launcher:

1. Availability:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/n/netbook-launcher; available
for all supported architectures
2. Rationale:
* Dependency of ubuntu-netbook-remix
3. Security:
* No CVE entries.
* No Secunia history.
* Any binaries running as root or suid/sgid ? Any daemons ? No, neither.
* No networking.
* No direct processing of binary of structured data.
* No source code review.
4. Quality assurance:
* Package works out of the box.
* No debconfage.
* Package is not in Debian.
* Upstream is vigorour.
* Upstream bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netbook-remix-launcher
* No special hardware requirements.
* No test suite.
5. UI standards:
* User-visible strings are internationalized using standard gettext system
? Yes
* Package with translatable strings builds a PO template during package
build ? Yes
* End-user applications ship a desktop file ? It ships an autostart desktop
file.
6. Standards compliance:
* Compiles with the FHS and Debian Policy.
* CDBS + debhelper, simple-patchsys, no oddness.
7. Dependencies:
* All Depends and Build-Depends, with the exception of clutter and
clutter-gtk are in main.
8. Maintenance:
* How much maintenance is this package likely to need ? Not much.
* Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of this package and fixing
its bugs ? Are they Ubuntu or Debian developers ? The mobile team.
9. Background information:
* The general purpose and context of the package should be clear from the
package's debian/control file. If it isn't then please explain.
* Upstream call this either netbook-launcher, or netbook-remix-launcher.
10. Internationalization:
* Are graphical applications translatable? Do they support gettext?

I tried out connecting several times and found the work around to

In addition to my previous post:

In my case, the patch just fixed the slow response of Maximising operation.
But it did nothing to improve the memory consuming problem, Xorg is still
eating that much memory as before.
If my system is up for 9 hours, Xorg could eat 2G of memory (Virt + Res).

Booting off the livecd will probably be enough for testing. It might be
tricky to get the Xorg.0.log and such, but you can do it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 396937] [NEW] [Jaunty][nvidia] TV out with separate X-screens fails

2009-07-08 Thread Jerome
Public bug reported:

I configured xorg.conf to have two separate x-screens, one on my desktop
screen and one on my TV (composite cable). It used to work until I
upgraded to Jaunty.

What I do :
- Plug composite cable from graphical card to TV
- Start X

What I expect :
- An image on my TV and the possibility to move my mouse pointer to the
X-screen displayed on TV.

What happens :
- When I move my mouse to the left (where the 2nd display should be), the mouse
gets kinda frozen before reaching the edge of the screen. If I login, all is
slow and no bar appear (like taskbar, menubar, I have an empty desktop, at
least for an abnormally long time).

Xubuntu Jaunty (Xfce)
Packet : nvidia-glx-180
lspci - 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce
6200] (rev a1)

Notes :

- It used to work on Interpid and before

- I tried several xorg.conf
  - built using nvidia-settings
  - built from scratch using ubuntu-fr.org documentation
  - taken from the internet (ubuntu-fr.org documentation)
  and it didn't make any difference.

- My TV is detected. Indeed, I can check that with nvidia-settings.
Besides, if the TV is not plugged, everything works like a charm : the
2nd X-screen is not created. That is the behaviour I expect. (At least
the behaviour I am used to).

- I tried twinview and it seemed to work : I had an extended desktop on
my screen and TV. Perhaps with a black and white image on TV, I don't
remember, but I did not investigate any further since twinview does not
fit my needs : I want seperate x-screens.

- I found this in syslog : gdm[11131]: WARNING:
gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 I have no
idea whether or not it is linked to our issue here, but I thought it
might explain the fact the no menubar appears.

- I tried versions 173 and 96 of the driver and I reproduce the issue
with those versions as well.

- Attached is a xorg.conf that reproduces the issue. It is a little bit
messy. If needed I can try to simplify it to spot the issue.

Please tell me if I can provide any useful information.

(Just read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting, attaching Xorg log ASAP.
I don't remember seeing anything that seemed relevant in it, though.)

(The exact package name is nvidia-glx-180, I assumed it corresponds to
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180.)

my netbook (with intel GMA 950) has a resolution of 1024x600

2009-07-08 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at

I can confirm this, happens to me too.

I switched from jaunty to testing because of bug #315542. Now I
traded hangs with crashes and kind of went from rain into monsoon.

Kind regards,

2.6.31-2 karmic font smears very much. The screen looks like black ink
blots sprayed all over it. It's back to intrepid to do any useful work
on this Thinkpad R31 i830.

Do note that KMS is causing video performance to get slower and slower
example compare GtkPerf from Ubuntu Synaptic. Half the letters in this
sentence are ink blotches, and I just updated and dist-upgraded and re-
booted moments ago.

Thanks for anyone's help on this problem.

Oops, now they are all black.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377209] Re: [i965gm] [jaunty official release] Ubuntu sometimes hangs before system sound played. Only mouse pointer moves.

2009-07-08 Thread Sebastien Lumineau
same Ubtuntu version: 9.04
same Intel Graphic: GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller

I have experienced the same kind of problem (Mouse pointer can be
moved, but neither the desktop elements nor the keyboard responds. Even
num, caps and scroll lock don't respond. I can only press reset to make
my computer alive again) without being able to tell where that could
come from.

Well, reading this, I've just disabled Gnome sound effect to see if it's
going better this way.

I can reactivate sounds if it can help. Please tell me. The thing is it
appends quite rarely, about once or maybe twice a week, without doing
anything special. So if you know some clues to trigger it faster... And
I also don't guess a log that could record this event when it occures.
xorg.log then ?

2009-07-08 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Ludovico, I was hoping that someone with more in-depth knowledge would
come around and send this upstream, doing some quality control at the
same time. Since that hasn't happened yet, I guess we should just go for
it. Before sending it upstream it would be nice if you could test with
the newest kernel included in karmic (2.6.31-1-generic) and the driver
from x-updates (2:2.7.99.901+git20090702.74227141-0ubuntu1 available at
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/). If you could
upload the same information as before with these upgrades (xrandr
--verbose, Xorg.0.log with ModeDebug, both with and without KMS), we can
use those files for the upstream report (they like logs and test with

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 396894] Re: gdm login shows on secondary monitor if twinview enabled on nvidia

2009-07-08 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in nvidia-graphics-drivers-180.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu = nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu)
