[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367309] Re: [i945GM] xrandr backlight control is bizarre on Macbook

2009-07-29 Thread Richard Cavell
Hi,

I'm on a Macbook2,1 with Intel GM945 chipset. I confirm that with Karmic
alpha 3, the behaviour of the brightness controls is much better. I
cannot, however, turn the backlight all the way off using the hotkeys as
Tim claims to have done. This is a minor issue, however. In general,
Karmic works *heaps* better with the Intel GMA945 than Jaunty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406045] Re: X Server problem with ATi 9600 XT in Jaunty

2009-07-29 Thread Silvery Corgan
My problem is not like the bug #348332.

I cannot boot my ubuntu machine, unlike the others which have freezes
once in a while,

I also tried other distributions (Mandriva 2009.1, Fedora 11, Sabayon
4.1) but the same problem with the X.Org Server occurred.

I can see the boot splash finish it's boot sequence but when it is
supposed to take me to the login screen I am presented with a black
monitor. I tried to boot with VGA=VESA but it's the same. But if i
boot a LiveCD of Jaunty with safe graphics mode it boots and is usable.
After I install it, it's not anymore. Now I supposed it was a kernel
issue and I upgraded to the kernel 2.6.30 but I had the same problem.
Now I don't know what to do anymore because I have to boot with the
Hardy kernel in order to boot my machine. I tried Intrepid and it's the
same. I don't really want fancy effects on my machine. I only want to
have my resolutions available and to have EXT4.

It would be great if this would be solved in Karmic.

If I can help, please post here how.

I confirm that in gdm it works, even if GNOME is loaded and I select
Switch user. And what more, it looks like a gnome problem, because in
XFCE4 everything goes well! So we should probably close this bug as
INVALID and open it in gnome package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406291] [NEW] touchpad no longer working on 9.04, ok on =8.10, Neo M54N laptop

2009-07-29 Thread Almkglor
Public bug reported:

My Neo M54N model (a dorky China-based laptop model)
has a touchpad which used to work on 8.10 and below. It
stopped working as soon as I upgraded to 9.04. Given
that 9.04 has been around for some months I had expected
there to be fewer problems.

P.S. OT: Lynx sucks for browsing ubuntuforums.org

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286001] Re: [g45] Incorrect resolution when docked on Dell Latitude E6400

2009-07-29 Thread Kai Jauch
Sorry that it took so long for me to respond.
I tested it with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1 and
linux-image-2.6.31-4-generic 2.6.31-4.23 and observed the following behaviour:

Booting docked with DVI1 attached, lid closed/open (doesn't make a difference):
- If lid is closed, only DVI1 is enabled by BIOS, LVDS1 disabled
- KMS enables both outputs, DVI1 at 1600x1200, LVDS1 at 1440x900 (both are the
native resolutions for the respective displays). Usplash centered on LVDS1, top
left corner on DVI1 (that's fine)
- GDM starts, LVDS1 and DVI1 are set to 1152x864

Booting undocked with nothing attached:
- KMS sets LVDS1 to 1440x900
- GDM uses the resolution set via KMS

To summarize:
The resolutions set by KMS are right in all cases, GDM sets a common resolution
for all connected displays (1152x864).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366521] Re: VMWare fusion host + vmmouse driver generates drag events on any click

2009-07-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse -
1:12.6.4-1ubuntu1

---
xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.6.4-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable.
  * New changes:
- debian/control:
  + Add mdetect ( 0.5.2.1ubuntu5) to Replaces: for seamless upgrade.
This change may be removed after we drop Hardy support.
  * Fixes bugs:
- VMWare fusion host + vmmouse driver generates drag events on
  any click (LP: #366521)

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.6.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.6.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.6.3-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Drop patch vmmouse_scale_input_data.diff, it's been fixed upstream a while
back.
  * Run autoreconf at build time. Build-depend on automake, libtool and
xutils-dev.
  * Handle parallel builds.
  * Install a detection program, a hal fdi file and a callout script for X
input hotplug. This closes: #509053, since the vmmouse no longer needs to
be configured in xorg.conf.
  * Don't override the manpage suffix, it should be vmmouse(4) not
vmmouse(4x).
  * Build against xserver 1.6 rc1.
  * Add myself to Uploaders.
  * Add Depends on xserver-xorg-input-mouse (closes: #509458)

Anyway one thing I've seen in passing is that maybe, if you
boot an older kernel from grub, it'll work again : (

I'll be trying that for now, but I don't expect to keep
forcing the boot to an older kernel each time I start up

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386907] Re: [GM45] [KMS] Display not disabled again after VT switch

2009-07-29 Thread Kai Jauch
Just noticed the following:
LVDS1 is disabled by GNOME according to the display settings set there.
VT-switching enables LVDS1 and shows the console. If I switch back to X, I
first have to manually enable LVDS1 (xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto) before I can
turn it off again (xrandr --output LVDS1 --off). After I've done that, LVDS1
isn't enabled anymore when I vt-switch and stays off, on console and X.

xrandr -q reports the following (before switching to vt1 the first time, while
LVDS1 displays the console although I switched back to X and after I manually
disabled it):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong

2009-07-29 Thread quokka
Hi Pete,

No it works just like a four screen Xinerama setup should. The two
twinview pairs are tied together with Xinerama the X config:

Option Xinerama 1
Screen  0  Screen0 0 0
Screen  1  Screen1 RightOf Screen0

The fake Xinerama installation then allows the dimensions and layout of
the physical screens to be defined for the benefit of window managers
and apps.

The fake Xinerama config file for four 1280x1024 monitors in a row:

4
0 0 1280 1024
1280 0 1280 1024
2560 0 1280 1024
3840 0 1280 1024

It is working well for me. And firefox doesn't crash all time now.

You are using a driver from a 3rd party source, that's not supported.
Most likely the updates install a new kernel package, and there's no
nvidia module for it. You need to install the driver again.

This problem appears with glRenderMode (GL_SELECT), then when you draw
something that warning is shown. Makes selection of objects impossible,
therefore any opengl applications that let you pick objects in the
screen unusable.

OK, but this is expected, I believe, because I am running in Drop to

When I try to start normally, I can't interact with the system via
Keyboard, Mouse or Network, so there would be no way, that i know of,
for me to run lshal.

Can youthink of any other way for me to get the requisite information?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 271426] Re: [Intrepid A5] Xserver fails to start on live-cd (signal 11)

2009-07-29 Thread Lieven
Just tried the 9.10 alpha3 livecd, and it boots very well, just a bit
slow (it took about 10 minutes to boot) but that's because of the age of
the computer.

The serial mouse still isn't working out of the box though, but it never
did since I started using ubuntu 3 years ago. I used to fix this by
messing around in xorg.conf which did the trick. In Windows XP the mouse
works OK.

I don't know if it's reasonable to try to get that fixed, probably not
any more, since we're talking of hardware that's pretty old. (some parts
are more than 10 years old). If it could be fixed that would be great of
course, but I understand there may be more important things to fix.

Thanks for fixing bug #271426.

Sadly, still an issue for me on:

uname -a

2.6.28-14-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 8 07:21:34 UTC 2009.

Manifests when resuming from hibernate (hibernating whilst on battery) and
resuming while on power. Switching user on password screen works partially
but ALT or SHIFT keys become stuck. Restart X fixes problem.

This is not consistent btw... :(

HW: Dell XPS M1330 Model:PP25L

Please advise how to supply more info.

 Status in X.Org X server: Fix Released
 Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

 On the way back from Berlin on Friday, I resumed my laptop on the plane to
 find that X was no longer accepting keyboard events. I tracked this down as
 far as EvdevCacheCompare having decided that the keyboard wasn't in the same
 state as it was on suspend and therefore disabling it. It's possible that
 this is related to bug 322946, but I don't know whether the position fields
 are defined for keyboard devices; unfortunately, my laptop ran out of
 battery before I could get it connected to a network, download debugging
 symbols, and attach gdb to the X server, which had been my plan.

 I've attached all the information I gathered before running out of battery,
 in the hope that it will be helpful. I was running kernel version
 2.6.28-6.17.

 The error message was: (EE) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: Device has
 changed - disabling.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 327175] Re: Sometimes loses input devices on suspend/resume: Device has changed - disabling.

2009-07-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
@mcnaz, given your results differ from everyone else's, you might have
some unrelated bug, although you've not provided enough info to guess
one way or another.

Anyway, given that three people who have been following this bug for a
while have confirmed they are no longer seeing it, and it's been marked
fixed upstream since February, I'm going to provisionally close the bug
as resolved. Colin, do of course feel free to reopen it if it is still
is reproducing.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Fix Released
