[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412860] [NEW] Xorg not responding to input

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412860] Re: Xorg not responding to input
I've possibly been hit by the same bug... not been able to track it down much yet. It may be different because the symtoms are different: Everything starts fine, then inactive applications stop responding to mouse clicks. Active applications vary, sometimes fine, sometimes they don't work either, at least twice the only thing that worked was scrolling down with the mouse wheel (couldn't click or scroll back up). Keyboard input has always been fine. I noticed the OP has a thinkpad X61; my machine is a T61 so may well have similar hardware. I'm running jaunty with latest updates; nvidia binary driver. Still got to work out what's actually causing this; did think it was kde 4.2, but xfce had the same problem. -- Xorg not responding to input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412907] [NEW] X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have tried to report this bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/341363 where I was told to report a separate bug. I am running Jaunty (fully up-to-date as of 13th July 2009) 64 bit version. My kern.log file shows alot of [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6 messages just before my system crashes. My system is crashing in this way (on average) at least once a day at the moment. I believe these messages in the kern.log file are the last messages produced before such a crash. When such a crash happens the graphics system is totally unresponsive, alt-ctr-backspace twice does not restart x (dont-zap disabled). When I try to get to a virtual terminal say Ctr-F1 - nothing happens. I can use sys-req to restart the system. I can ssh in to the machine and sound etc still works. Trying to restart gdm via /etc/init.d/gdm restart fails. In the end I restart using sys-req. This bug is making Ubuntu totally unusable right now. I am pretty sure it due to the Intel graphic driver. I will attach logs of various command in the next posts. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: crash driver intel -- X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412907] Re: X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard
I will attach a report of dmesg after a reboot of the crash (that I guess will happen later today). This crash seems to happen more the more graphic intensive applications I run, i.e., compiz / OpenGL seem to cause more crashes. Also the crash seems to happen a lot when opening Firefox, but that may just be because I open Firefox a lot. I have no way of forcing a crash. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) -- X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I hope it crashes as often as yesterday now that I can hope to trace it :) On this machine, the crashes happen more often with XFCE than Gnome (I have tried bot Xubuntu and regular Ubuntu on it) - even when I do not have XFCEs own compositing, nor Compiz, on. Under Gnome using Compiz perhaps made the crashes more common - and under Gnome, I often get a hard lock instead of just X crashing and restarting, like under XFCE. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406460] Re: [i845] xorg hang on video driver 2.8.0
Latest update 20090812 (is this A4?) is worse. On CD Live boots to black screen, cursor won't move. If I boot recovery mode I can log in with ssh however continuing boot to black screen keyboard doesn't work, mouse doesn't work, ssh stops responding. Updated the hard disk to same level. Boots to a brown screen, no cursor, keyboard doesn't work, ssh stops responding. Since that was a hard disk boot, I re-booted with karmic A2 and copied over the Xorg.0.log, .xsession-errors, and dmesg which I'll attach. I rebooted in recovery, nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf added Driver vesa which works. I'm entering this comment from that. The reason is that developers look at a max of one issue per bug report, and so your issue will not get investigated if it is appended to someone else's. Launchpad makes it very cheap and easy to mark two bugs dupes, so if it does turn out your issue is the same as Liam's, we are able to handle that situation most cleanly if your issue is on a separate bug report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 339336] [NEW] Acer Ferrari 3000 fails to resume from standby in Jaunty
You have been subscribed to a public bug: System is: Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release:9.04 I think the problem is with the kernel. Why: Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu (9.04) behave the same way; after restart, they both say they want to report a kernel bug. In case of Ubuntu the reporting tool crashed while trying to report it (I commented on the appropriate bug) and in the case of Kubuntu the crash reporter app stopped appearing after I got my Internet connection, so I couldn't report it. The laptop is equipped with an Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton), chipset VIA KM400, graphics Radeon 9200, sound VIA 8235. What I expected to happen: Computer resumes. What happens: Complete hang. Usually I see checkerboard corruption on the screen (I often see this, e.g. when the computer starts X during boot, or in prior versions of Ubuntu, when resuming from standby. Usually stays on the screen for about 1-2 secs and then is correctly redrawn), but sometimes the screen remains completely black (not even the backlight comes on) and once, when booting from the LiveCD, I saw the cursor and could move it for a bit, and then it froze. The hang happens with and without compositing effects enabled. Suspend works correctly on 8.04 and I don't remember it not working on previous versions. Did not try 8.10. Following instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend I did not get any useful info from dmesg. But maybe someone will, so I'm attaching it. Please advise what other info I could provide. Thank you. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Acer Ferrari 3000 fails to resume from standby in Jaunty https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/339336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
