[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401375] Re: [i965GM] screen turns off and on during normal activity
I have also seen this, the monitor blanks for a split second during normal use and then returns to normal. It occured only on DVI1, I never saw it happen on LVDS1. Could this be bug #275152 again? I had/have frequent monitor blanks on Jaunty. On Karmic, I saw it maybe five times since alpha 2. You have been subscribed to a public bug: My desktop effects used to work. They ALWAYS worked! I'm on Karmic alpha 4. And when I tried to re-enable the effects (I hadn't even restarted my computer or updated anything), it told me that it wasn't possible! After installing from the Karmic CD the problem remains as in Intrepid. I installed the ati drivers from the PPA. It appears that the ATI driver is not used and Xserver falls back to the VESA driver. (Rebooting in this mode does not exhibit the problem, though I've no idea whether it works in Intrepid with the VESA driver.) X's default background for xterm is white; Debian sets it to black. Redhat and some others leave it as white. (I generally prefer black, since color contrasts work better against black). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421307] [NEW] The desktop effects won't activate, even if they do
affects ubuntu/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau status invalid This is certainly not an xserver-xorg-video-nouveau bug; the reporter says that desktop-effects activate :). It sounds like it's probably a gnome-control-center bug; that's where the Appearance capplet lives. Could you please attach your Xorg.conf as suggested by the automated message; that could potentially be interesting. Could you also attach the output of running compiz --replace in a terminal. This will allow us to determine whether the problem is compiz or in the desktop-effects enabling logic. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- The desktop effects won't activate, even if they do https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

After uninstalling Swfdec and put proprietary Flash 10 plugin, it works well, but it needs last version of Flash 10, I read that old version, in addition to a security risk, could also cause this crash. http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html Download the tar.gz file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421478] [NEW] [945GM] Connecting external VGA monitor hangs Xorg
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Hardware: MacBook 2,1 Running: Karmic amd64 Attaching an external VGA monitor causes X to lock-up (can't change to VT, black screen except for mouse pointer, which can't be moved) In one of the crashes, the mouse pointer could be moved, and changed type over different parts of the screen (e.g. text pointer over console). Starting X with the VGA monitor attached works, but the monitor can't re-configured from the start-up settings or it'll probably lock-up. If the machine is booted with the monitor attached, it will pick up the correct settings via EDID (eg capable of 1024x...@75), otherwise it only sees up to 1024x...@60. After a while, this appears in the kernel log: [ 840.481089] INFO: task i915/0:825 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 414678] Re: radeonhd without xorg.conf
No, radeonhd does not need ati/radeon. But the default setup (which will use radeon) needs the ati wrapper package to be installed. That's probably why -test2 fails. -test3 shows that radeon works fine. But if this is with radeonhd installed, I would consider it a bug that radeonhd is not picked instead. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed ** Summary changed: - radeonhd without xorg.conf + [HD3870] radeonhd is not preferred to ati/radeon ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- [HD3870] radeonhd is not preferred to ati/radeon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413788] Re: [ubuntu karmic] intel-video finds correct screen size but sets it incorrectly
Geir, with your comment I realized that indeed there was a connection on TV1 to a TV, which was not only switched off but also unplugged from power for at least a month. I kind of dismissed the connection statement of xrandr as just another bug ... However, playing with the connect led to the discovery that VGA settings depend on TV connect status and sequence of steps, which I don't think is the intended behaviour. Also, there is a severe, reproducible crash of the xserver. I did various cold boots with two scenarios: either only VGA connected, or also the TV (via the s-video outlet of the motherboard), and attach camera-screenshots and dmesg and Xorg.0.log files. I did not do most of the things you had asked for, as I believe the sitation has changed, but if you need more/other please tell me. When booting, only the vga - even if the tv is connected - gets a signal, which seemingly at random fluctuates between 800x600, 720x400, 640x480, 640x400 settings, too fast to follow. At the point where the ubuntu logo with the progress bar appears, the signal switches to 1024x768. Up to here all is independent of whether only vga or also tv is connected. If tv is connected the same picture is visible also on the tv (see pic imgp2060.jpg). When the xserver starts the signals depend on what is connected. With both connected the resolution becomes 1152x900 (imgp2065.jpg), when only vga connected it remains 1024x768 (imgp2069.jg). This is kept into the desktop, whereby in the dual connect case xrandr pretends it is connected with 1024x768, while the monitor osd says otherwise (imgp2066.jpg). In the single connect case the two agree (imgp2071.jpg). Only the vertical refresh rates are correctly stated in both cases as 60Hz, or 75Hz, resp. When, in the dual case, I unplug the tv cable from the mb, nothing happens. But after a xrandr command the signals change and the vga now receives a 1024x768 signal (imgp2067.jpg). Note, however, that both the signal frequency and the polarities are different from the other 1024x768 signals! When I then re-insert the tv cable into the mb (nothing happens) and issue xrandr, then the xserver crashes. keyboard (PS/2 connected) and mouse (USB connected) are dead. I can ssh into the computer from another machines, and see xrandr and Xorg running. From remote I can kill xrandr, but Xorg resists all kill attempts. (Frame buffer allocation issue? see last line in Xorg.0.log-commented). The attached Xorg.0.log_commented is for the dual-screen scenario. I inserted comments (search for ullix) between the steps described above. The dmesg_commented is the matching dmesg file (no changes though due to the steps). Dmesg_vga-only and Xorg.0.log_vga-only are from the other scenario. Booting with only vga attached is unfortunately no solution. Beyond the xserver crashing, the desktop is shifted downwards by about half the height of the lower panel and makes it illegible, and a black space is inserted at the top (compare picture imgp2071 with 2066 or 2067). I can press the monitor OSD button, and it jumps up, only to jump down again after 5-50 sec. This IBM monitor worked perfectly well with older versions of Ubuntu. I noticed in both Xorg.0.log files that the xserver does 8 (!) rounds of determining the connected monitor hardware, every time with the same result as far as I can see. That can't be intended behaviour??? ** Attachment added: booting. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 371676] Re: Runescape/Jaunty incompatibility
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 355742 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355742 ** Description changed: Players of Runescape, an online game, can now only play in a 'crippled' mode after upgrading to Jaunty. This has been reported on Runescape Forums by players who use Ubuntu Kubuntu Jaunty. The bug doesn't seem to be hardware related, it appears to be something which has appeared after an install or upgrade to Jaunty. No players are reporting that Jaunty is working OK in this respect for them. Some players have reported that removing Jaunty and reinstalling Intrepid solves the problem for them. The high definition mode in Runescape, which was fully functional in Intrepid, no longer functions in Jaunty, it simply produces a browser crash. Although I have seen this bug reported as an OpenGL bug, I do not have the expertise to confirm that. I would be pleased to collaborate in finding a speedy solution to this problem, which has been around for at least a month now. further details: Browser: firefox 3.0 (though this bug has been reported by players using other browsers) Plugin: Sun Java 6 update 13 (this bug has been reported for other versions of Sun Java CPU: AMD Athlon dual core (this bug has also been reported for Intel processors) GPU: nVidia GForce 9500 GT (this bug has been reported for other GPU's) On starting the free web browser game, Runescape, at http://www.runescape.com, it is impossible to enable High Definition mode. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel The bug is what it says on the tin. When glutCreateWindow() is called in the attached OpenGL program, the random number generator appears to be reseeded with a predictable number. This results in predictable output unless srand(time(NULL)) called again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 340212] Re: [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty
Thank you for building and testing, Jaroslav. It is usually the developers that mark the upstream bugs as Fix Released, and usually only when the patches have been committed to a source code repository. Once we see where the fix is commited to, we can see how feasable it is to pull it into Karmic. As you noticed it doesn't apply directly to -rc8. -- [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355576] Re: [X1800] Incorrect resolutions reported in Display dialog
Again, please test this against karmic, not jaunty. I'll delete that -ati jaunty package to eliminate any confusion. -- [X1800] Incorrect resolutions reported in Display dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 340212] Re: [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty
I see from the upstream comment by Michael Fu that it is aimed for Dave Airlie's tree. IIRC this is for the next kernel cycle, which means that it will only hit the mainline kernel for 2.6.32. Again, someone else has to decide how feasible it will be to pull this into Karmic.
