[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 218263] Re: [Mac] numlock and capslock leds don't light up unless mouseemu is removed

2009-09-01 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
Oh, my bad. I've misunderstood the description of the bug fix.
So, is there any reason to keep mouseemu on Macbooks? The right-click
functionality is already provided by the Synaptics touchpad driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419126] Re: X fails to start up after mesa+git update - gdm loops after logging in

2009-09-01 Thread Ranferi Meza
As far as I know, the Radeon HD 3000 is based on the R600 chip, ergo, it
requires the R600 microcode to work properly. My question for you is: have you
been using this chip with KMS or without. If you have, try issuing nomodeset
to kernel at boot just to make sure it is not a problem related to the
experimental R600 code in radeon-drm.
My GPU is a RS480 (Radeon Xpress 1100), and it worked 100%, but it is based in
the R300 microcode, and apparently only R200 - R500 chips are fully supported
with xserver-sorg-video-ati.
My guess: you need the radeonhd driver, wnich is a work in progress. Check all
this, please.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422422] [NEW] nvidia-settings puts primary screen on wrong monitor

2009-09-01 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

When I connect my Dell XPS M1530 to an external monitor using the VGA
port and run nvidia-settings to set it up to be to the right of the
laptop screen, it does not matter which screen I set to be the primary
screen - nvidia-settings forces the external monitor to be the primary
screen (ie gnome-panel appears on this screen). (The relative
positioning of the screens is correct, however.)

The workaround is to cancel the change and then reapply it - the second
time it sets the laptop screen to primary.

This happens with the nvidia driver version 185.18.31 and .36 and also
the latest beta driver 190.25 in Jaunty (with kernels 2.6.28, 2.6.30,
and 2.6.31).

It does work correctly if I connect to a monitor using the HDMI port.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378827] Re: Nvidia driver not dkms install in karmic with kernel 2.6.30-5

2009-09-01 Thread Paulus Esterhazy
I see two possible courses of action:

1. Stick with nvidia's old .16, but apply the patches from 398893.
2. Bump to .20.

Both fix compilation and compatibility with kernel 2.6.31; both work for
me. This has been broken for some time, and should be fixed before the
release.

 I had previously installed 6.06 LTS from the ALT disk and it worked

2009-09-01 Thread Fabs
I am experiencing the same problem on Karmic, with an eeepc 1101ha. I am
also experiencing a very slow video performance. It was unusable around
15 august, but then an update made it a little bit more usable, but i
can't for example render a video properly.

I read the entire discussion about resolution, but I think the
performance is related to that also, am I wrong? What I get from this
is that if Intel does not release the drivers in a proper way, we won't
have any better support for this graphics card?

One time the screen corruption even stay after a reboot. I had to power
down the system to get rid of it.

Fair enough, sorry, maybe I lost track of what chipset you all were using. Just
tryong to help you, I foound this on xorg-edgers PPA, about new update for mesa:

Publishing details

* Published 15 hours ago

Changelog

mesa (7.6.0+git20090831.c4a3e036-0ubuntu0tormod) karmic; urgency=low

  * Checkout from git 20090831 (master branch) up to commit
c4a3e036ed1c755a291018251c4f55c45ac17079
  * Only added debian/ tree from origin/ubuntu
  * hook: Drop 107_glxgears_is_not_a_benchmark.patch (testing)
  * hook: Drop 108_bo_assertion.patch (applied upstream)
  * + Enable r600 driver. Note that it requires separate drm modules
  not provided in this PPA or in Ubuntu, and also does not work
  with KMS yet. See https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon
  * + Require at least libdrm_2.4.12+git20090825

Hope it helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410267] Re: Pressure sensitive tablet: stylus paints off-cursor in Gimp and Inkscape

2009-09-01 Thread Mathieu Comandon
I confirm this bug is related to window borders. This bug also occurs in
MyPaint with one exception : When in fullscreen mode (by pressing F11) ,
the screen is just one big drawing area and the tablet works as
expected.

I wish I had a clue for what to do to analyse the problem further. I
could inspect the diffs between Jaunty and Karmic but the origin of the
problem still isn't clear. It might also be the window decorator's fault
(but I doubt it)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 350327] Re: vinagre connects but appears that I cannot start anything on remote desktop

2009-09-01 Thread bc90021
I note above that the Importance of this ticket is 'Undecided' and the
Assigned To field is empty. From this I must conclude that there is
no one working on this issue.

It's almost five months old. While it may be related to proprietary
drivers, at least two of us are on record as saying that it is
independent of the driver, and it has also been tested on Archlinux and
does not affect that platform. That would indicate that it is an Ubuntu
bug.

Is there ANY plan to work on this? As RedLegoMan has indicated, this is
a proper pain.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422669] [NEW] [karmic] suspend to ram broken in kubuntu

2009-09-01 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

After my laptop wakes up from sleep its has a desktop unusable.

The place where plasma used to be is blank. But right clicking on it
shows the context menu, but nothing is displayed there. Only thing I can
do is restart or log out.

Please take a look at the picture. Windows have lost the border and in
bottom place plasma is missing.

I discovered this error message during shutdown:

Sep  1 17:17:25 mybox kernel: [26066.037119] [fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntDisableMs

Also the box did not power off, so I had to manally switch it off by
pressing the on/off button. However I'm not sure, if this is related.

It is a Lenovo T400 as well, so the same details as in Brians
description apply.

Regards, lars

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410062] Re: fglrx 8.632 does not compile by dkms on kernel 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 for amd64

2009-09-01 Thread hunger
The 9.8 version installs for me after tweaking dkms:

* Fglrx wants to run as root (needed to edit /usr/bin/dkms to stop it from
doing this;-)
* the installed dkms.conf file runs with bash only, so I had to edit the make
command used there
   * Removed pushd and popd which seem redundant anyway.
   * call ./make.sh without forcing the shell to sh.

The package was available here:
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-9-8-x86.x86_64.run

I used --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic to create debs, installed them and then tweaked
dkms as described above.
I further had to blacklist the radeon and radeonhd modules.

Hi Andreas,

I've backported the patches to Karmic and have build and posted a test
kernel:

http://people.canonical.com/~ogasawara/lp398188/

ie. http://people.canonical.com/~ogasawara/lp398188/linux-

If you could please test and confirm this kernel fixes this issue that
would be great. I'll then submit for inclusion in Karmic. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422780] [NEW] nvidia settings ignored on reboot.

2009-09-01 Thread blackest_knight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

with karmic the nvidia 185 driver was used but on boot up the screen was
in 640x480 and had to be set by nvidia-settings to 1440x900 each time.

Apart from the permissions problem (not being able to write to xorg.conf
without root permissions)
The settings even when written were being ignored.

The solution (work around) is to choose preferences - display and
answer no in the dialog that appears that says the tool can't work with
the graphics card, and i would i like to use the vendors instead.

This allows the default resolution to be set and persists across
reboots.

obviously there are 2 problems here a failure to raise permissions when
needed and the over riding of the nvidia-settings with the (gnome ?
ones), Even using kdm as a display manager had the same issue.

The initial problem was caused by an upgrade from 180 - 185 nvidia
driver which failed to install the nvidia driver. which forced me to a
console where i used vesa to get a working desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422811] [NEW] Unable to use all 4 performance levels

2009-09-01 Thread Appiah
Public bug reported:

Hardware : Acer Extensa 7630G
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 9300M GS (rev a1)

Driver: 180.44-0ubuntu1

The powermizer under nvidia-settings shows level 0 to 3.
If i start a video with vpdau or start a game it goes from level 0 to level 1
and says Maximum performance under performance mode.
http://godmelon.se/dump/powermizer.jpg (Screencap of nvidia-settings under
powermizer)

nvidia-settings -q GPUPerfModes -t
shows :
perf=0, nvclock=169, memclock=100 ;
 perf=1, nvclock=275, memclock=250 ;
perf=2, nvclock=500, memclock=400 ;
 perf=3, nvclock=580, memclock=400

Tried forcing with RegistryDwords PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x3322;
PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1 in xorg.conf
Now it's always performance level 1 (still says Maximum performance) but never
goes to 2 or 3.

(even tried to force with nvclock and coolbits but that did not help and
maybe has no relevance to this bug?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 354715] Re: xrandr --scale XxY crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

The problem persists with the new Radeon driver PPA. I strongly suspect
that this problem is not driver-specific.

xrandr --output VGA-0 --scale 0.5x0.5 works as expected
xrandr --scale 0.5x0.5 segfaults.

It should report an error message instead of just crashing.
