[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386532] Re: [Jaunty 9.04, Radeon X600] Extending desktop across two monitors works intermittently
I've tested using the latest Karmic LiveCD (20090910), however as the versions of xserver-xorg-video-radeon and such in the PPA are the same as the ones in the official repos I did *not* add the PPA above to the live session's sources.list. The bug has changed, in that instead of dual-screen working intermittently it now doesn't work at all. Here are the steps I'm using to reproduce: 1. downloaded Karmic daily LiveCD (20090910), checked md5 sum of .iso file, rebooted using LiveCD, tested Disc for errors before booting into the live session; 2. run gnome-display-properties; 3. un-check 'Mirror screens'; 4. drag monitors, so iiyama is on the left, Philips on the right; 5. click [Apply]; 6. the following message appears: Monitor Resolution Settings has detected that the virtual resolution must be set in your configuration file in order to apply your settings. Would you like Screen Resolution to set the virtual resolution for you? (Recommended) [No] [Yes] 7. choose [Yes], then click [Ok] on dialog requesting the user logs out and in again; 8. log out, X restarts, desktop reloads; 9. notice that the desktop has returned to mirrored state; 10. re-run gnome-display-properties, notice that settings applied on last run were not saved and that the 'Mirror screens' check box is checked again; 11. start from (1) again, and the same sequence will repeat, including the question about setting the virtual resolution in the configuration file; Note: step (4) doesn't actually need to be completed, 'Mirror screens' can be un-checked but the monitors not moved. Am still including that step as it was something I did on almost every attempt at getting gnome- display-properties to work. Another note: on first run gnome-display-properties does add a virtual resolution to xorg.conf (which I am assuming is the 'configuration file' the dialog was referring to), it just ignores it on every subsequent run. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31635998/Xorg.0.log -- [Jaunty 9.04, Radeon X600] Extending desktop across two monitors works intermittently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Kimus, Thanks for your support. The "ast" driver is developed by ASPEED Technology Inc. There is no any relationship with "ati". We found this issue is our VBIOS take too much time to read EDID and cause this issue. I'm sorry miss to update the status on bugzilla. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 85475] Re: [Feisty] safe graphics restart blank screen
"vesa" is working for me on i845 in IBM ThinkCentre and i830 in IBM Thinkpad R31. At one point I went back a couple releases getting "vesa" failures on the i830. Recently on karmic there was a "vesa" change I think, developers would know, and now it is working for me. For what I do as an "ordinary user", internet email, internet browsing, internet flash video, internet shopping, printing internet articles including graphics, word processing, spreadsheets, digital photo editing & printing, what did I forget, "vesa" works fine. I don't do games. Since karmic debug time is running short I'd vote for "blacklisting" i830 and i845 from the current defaults which don't work for me, to "nomodeset" and "vesa" which do work (unless some update does some damage). Much the same thing was (is?) done on jaunty blacklisting "compiz" on pc's with these chips. This ATI radeon Xpress 200 defaults to nomodeset as it is. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415682] Re: Stuck with KDE Cursor after installing ubuntu-desktop
Hi Bryce, I may be wrong here, but I believe that your automated message is asking for files that have nothing to do with the issue. I fail to see how the lspci or dmesg output will help as it is not hardware specific. As well, Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf do not have anything interesting/different in them. What you want to do to reproduce this is install ubuntu karmic, then install the kubuntu-desktop package and try a session in KDE and a session in GNOME. You will see that the cursors are not displayed as expected: - KDE cursor at GDM - KDE cursor becomes default in GNOME - Changing cursor pointer does not switch immediately in GNOME - KDE cursor shows up quickly when resizing a window in VLC under GNOME After reading the bug, please let me know if you still need the requested files. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- Stuck with KDE Cursor after installing ubuntu-desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 387013] Re: Ubuntu unusable by default with ATI HD4670 video card + monitor on DVI link (blank screen).
This issue may affect me too. I just grabbed 64bit Karmic alpha 5 and tried to boot from CD. I cannot get a working graphics desktop even in safe mode. I see the splash screen and the little rising transporter room effect, the cursor spins and then goes blank. Then the splash screen comes back and the whole cycle repeats a few times. Eventually, I end up with a screen of complete trash. It's colorful and pretty but unusable ;). I can't even get a safe mode desktop on which to try the PPA (if it's still relevant for alpha 5). This is a brand new i7-920 with an ATI HD4670. It has only Vista on it currently but I plan to dual-boot and would like to skip Jaunty and go straight to a fresh Karmic install. Note that I've booted Jaunty from CD and had to do nothing special to get a usable desktop, although compiz does not work. I've got a dual-head setup with two 1900x1200 Dell monitors. I'm happy to help test things if I can get a usable desktop. Please advise. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 67188] Re: "Error activating XKB configuration." - Requires manual xorg.conf editing
spbrereton, if what you experience is in fact bug #327963, then I believe that you should set the MODEL to something mac (e.g. "macintosh_vndr/ch") and the LAYOUT to a variant not mentioning mac (e.g. "de", not "de_mac"). The reason is that the layout files for mac models simply don't mention any specific mac layout variants, as all the mac model layouts are for mac. In other words, the "macintosh_vndr/ch" file describes a layout called "de" which fits the default swiss mac layout, but no layout called "de_mac". Bug #327963 has been turned into a request to introduce the latter as an alias to the former, in order to avoid this confusion. If you want to support that, subscribe to that bug and/or mark it as affecting you as well. The other way, using a generic MODEL with a *_mac LAYOUT does work as well, as far as the configuration files are concerned. The result is probably not optimal, though, as that configuration is intended to simulate mac-like behaviour on a non-mac keyboard. So if your keyboard was built by apple, the other approach is preferable. Further discussion on the speific issue of mac keyboard models with mac layout variants should probably go to bug 327963 as well, as that bug is more specific, while this one here does deal with several other and probably unrelated issues as well. -- "Error activating XKB configuration." - Requires manual xorg.conf editing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd
This bug is marked as fixed, however with Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5, the 3 times I logged in, the screen froze, the first and second times about 2 minutes after login, and the third time about ten minutes after login. When this happens I have to power off the PC. I was doing different things when the screen froze, so I do not think it was the particular action that caused the freeze. I don't know if the freeze is related to this bug. As someone wrote in the bug description, there could be different bugs that manifest in the same way (freezing). Here is my lspci output: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) With respect to Ubuntu 9.04 that I currently use, things are far from perfect. Watching video streaming is difficult as the image freezes often, scrolling on Firefox is slow, and most annoying of all is that once or twice a day the gnome-panel takes up 50% of CPU time, so the panel freezes. I can often unfreeze it by killing the gnome-panel process. Note however that the gnome panel freezing is less serious than the screen freezing that I experience with Karmic Alpha 5. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377175] Re: Volume Up button locks screen
I'm having the same problem. Ubuntu 9.04 with a Macally Icekey USB keyboard. This is new after upgrading from 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.04 last night. I've tried both the Generic keyboard layout (pc104 and pc105), as well as evdev-managed keyboard. I figured out the following: 1. In Jaunty, keycode 160 is my volume up key 2. It's original mapping was XF86ScreenSaver 3. I can change it: xmodmap -e "keycode 160 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume" 4. Then I end up in the same spot as Matt -- pressing the key causes the volume to go up AND locks the screen. It seems like something in Gnome has attached to the XF86ScreenSaver key, and when the keysym for keycode 160 changed, it didn't update internally. Digging through all the configuration in gconf-editor, it doesn't appear that the screensaver key behavior is configurable. (The "lock screen" keyboard shortcut is still set to the original value, L. Changing or disabling that doesn't stop this from happening.) My other three "special" keys, lower volume, mute, and eject, all work fine. -- Volume Up button locks screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
