[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433974] Re: [i965GM] corrupt texture in phoronix-test-suite qgears2

2009-09-23 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
[0.00] Unknown boot option `i915.modeset=0': ignoring
is normal, and I think it suggests that adding module-specific options to the
command line may not be the canonical way of doing it - it's fast and easy
though. You can verify that KMS is used/not used by some modesetting messages
in the output of dmesg or by display names in Xorg.0.log being of the form
DVI1/DVI-1 and LVDS1/LVDS-1. Also the VTs typically look quite different in the
two modes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 417084] Re: touchpad does not work after upgrade

2009-09-23 Thread Alberto Milone
It might be a bios issue.

Please follow these steps:
Read where it says Changing the Boot Option Configuration Line so as to boot
the live cd with a custom option
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Changing the Boot Option
Configuration Line

and add the following options instead of the one in the example (which is
vga=771):
hpet=force i8042.nopnp

if this doesn't work, try the following options:
i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop

Let me know if it solves the problem

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433488] Re: calling GLX 1.3 function glXCreatePixmap when GLX 1.3 is not supported

2009-09-23 Thread Tormod Volden
I am not sure what you mean I suggest but I guess, yes, it is not
supposed to work since the r300 driver does not support GLX 1.3.
However, it works by dumb luck.

Upstream (mesa) seems pretty clear about the glXGetProcAddress probing
being wrong. Anyway, this is an upstream (compiz) issue so I don't think
any Ubuntu action is needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433488] Re: calling GLX 1.3 function glXCreatePixmap when GLX 1.3 is not supported

2009-09-23 Thread Travis Watkins
Further upstream discussion:

Amaranth So, for now I think compiz should just ignore this warning :)
Amaranth and WINE will ignore it even if you don't want them to :/
idr Amaranth: The bad part is that systems where this really doesn't work
won't give you a warning. You'll just get a protocol error.
Amaranth idr: But surely tfp won't exist there?
idr Amaranth: Ah, that is almost certainly true.
Amaranth So unless we get GLX_mesa_i_cant_believe_its_not_glx13 compiz is
doing all it can to make sure it doesn't use something that doesn't exist while
still working on systems where it can work

r300 does support glXCreatePixmap (otherwise they couldn't support
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap) so any system that has GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
has glXCreatePixmap so we are covered.

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
After the upgrade from 7.10, where my synaptics touchpad was automatically
recognized, to 8.04 (online) my touchpad stopped working. When clicking on
GSynaptics I get that I should set SHMConfig to true in xorg.conf, which I
have done, but that does not help. synclient -l gives the the answer that I

have added the *.fdi file according to

2009-09-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Installed from ubuntu-0.04-alternate.i386.iso downloaded today. MD5SUM correct.
Update from 8.04 to 9.04.
Selected update latest versions from the internet. Selected defaults when given
a choice.
No problems encountered and no error messages.
Rebooted and logged in. Everything looked fine.
Popup notice asked whether to update to a new version of the Shutdown button
applet.
Selected Update. Window did not disappear afterwards, so clicked on Update
again.
Crash notice appeared indicating that Screensaver app had crashed.
Have no idea whether this had anything to do with updating the Shutdown button.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410455] Re: [i855] Karmic Koala Alpha 3 live CD give black screen

2009-09-23 Thread Khashayar Naderehvandi
The upstream bug referenced here is marked a dupe of fdo #22787 [1]. And
that bug in turn is apparently resolved. Is that commit already in
karmic? Or is this, in fact, another bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359245] Re: Jaunty X highly unstable

2009-09-23 Thread robe
Interesting, I also had this X-Disconnect Bug two days ago about 3 times with
Enlightenment DR17. I switched to the latest stable KDE and now I get only
sporadic restarts of X.
NVidia Driver is 185.18.36 from NVidia, kernel 2.6.28-15. System is Dell XPS
M1330.
There was a time when everything was rock solid, even with Suspend and stuff.
Not that is gone.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your

issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Hi jhorstmann,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422406] Re: [i915gm] Karmic Koala, i915, Unknown monitor (fails to get EDID)

2009-09-23 Thread Chaostya
Found the exact scenario to reproduce my problem:

When it works:
1. We have a laptop completely turned off. First we plug-in external monitor
and then we turn it on.
2. Boot and try to get EDID - it works.
How to make it fail:
3. Suspend my laptop. And unplug external monitor.
4. Wake it up. Adjust laptop screen resolution via System-Preferences-Display.
5. Suspend it again. Plug external monitor.
6. Wake it up. Try to get EDID - failure, it doesn't reads CRT edid anymore
(but still reads LVDS edid).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435241] [NEW] Intel KMS ignores some monitor resolutions (SHP 31)

2009-09-23 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If I connect my Dell Inspiron 1525 to my TV SHARP LC-32GA5E it is recognized
correctly but the wrong resolutions are used/shown. Only the 4:3 resolutions
640,800 and 1024 are available. The TV is useable but the aspect ratio is wrong
of course since it is a 16:9 display.
If I boot Karmic without KMS I can use the correct resolution 1280x720. So I
guess it is a KMS issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 155288] Re: Xorg.conf's default setup for the Macbook Pro touchpad isn't correct

2009-09-23 Thread spbrereton
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 94055 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94055

I know it says to comment here only if this duplicate status is wrong -
but I'm attached to the original bug and I don't see this level of
technical input there. Worryingly, I don't see progress on this bug for
over a year. The Sensitivity Slider in the Touchpad GUI does not work.
Any attempt to reduce the sensitivity prompts the system to move the
slider to the far right (some minutes later - it's like watching the
cursor get turbo-boost).

This is a major problem for a laptop user.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 112310] Re: Setting Wacom pen button to double click doesn't work

2009-09-23 Thread Maarten Hazewinkel
It appears that any 'dblclick X' event is actually set up as 'dblclick 0'.
This can be confirmed by running:

xsetwacom get stylus button3

A way around this is suggested in
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-418203.html

xsetwacom set stylus button3 196609

This will set it to 'DBLCLICK 1'

However, on my 9.04 this setting still does not produce working double
clicks in practice.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425595] Re: [K8M890] Display resolution is not stable

2009-09-23 Thread Ilantus
Hi Bartoxz,

Thanks a lot...

They below solution which you given is solved the issue.

To workaround this you can edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as following:
Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
SubSection Display
Depth16
Modes 1024x768 800x600 640x480
Virtual 1280 1024
EndSubSection
EndSection

Now if i restart the machine also i m getting 1024x764 resolution.Its
fine...

Thank you once again.

Regards,
Baskar K

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413168] Re: Karmic upgrade not shutting off backlight after time

2009-09-23 Thread Scott Howard
I think multiple bugs are getting mixed together.
See bug 397839.

According to Bryce at that bug report, xorg has been properly patched
with both patches that Richard Hughes requests.

gnome-power-manager is at a version where its fix is included.

So xorg says the bug is invalid since they have the patches and
gnome-power-manager says the bug in in xorg.

From the number of reports that are coming in on both bugs, it appears
that the reality is that DPMS and blanking problems do remain.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Upon upgrade from ibex-jaunty-karmic yesterday, I'm finding
gnome-power-manager is shutting off the display after the timed interval as
it used to.  I have tried a recursive-unset on gpm and resetting the timeout
value to no benefit.  Launching gpm in verbose shows nothing before/after the
timeout period.  Possibly relate is the screensaver is also not coming on
after the set interval, so possibly something is preventing both from
 becoming idle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling

2009-09-23 Thread Blaine
Hey everyone.
I have been hacking away at appletouch.c for a little while now and have had
minor success on various fronts. The reason I am looking at appletouch, not
synaptics, is because ideally we want the driver to not 'average' the mouse
position when 2 fingers are being used. Synaptics only gets the scroll x,y
position and finger count. It would be tough to unaverage out the x,y params
in the higher level driver.

So far I have had success in disabling scrolling altogether, to allow
for a fully stable right click. This means that as soon as I put 1
finger on the track pad, the cursor will not move, allowing a right
click functionality. However, the way I implemented it does not allow
for any kind of cursor movement, at all, with more than 1 finger on the
pad. The side-scrolling feature still works, and in fact this
configuration is pretty nice. However, ideally we want 2-finger
scrolling.

My second pseudo-success has come in that I can get 2-finger scrolling
to work without jumpiness, but only if the first finger to touch the pad
is on top of the bottom finger (closer to the keyboard). If the first
finger is furthest from the keyboard, however, jumpy behaviour comes
back.

I have a few ideas I'm going to try out today. I'll post back here
with success. I see, at a minimum, a patch for people who do not want
2-finger scrolling but DO want 2-finger right clicking.

Blaine

PATCH for stable right click, disables 2-finger scrolling. Edit
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/appletouch.fdi and turn on vertical edge scrolling.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()

2009-09-23 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
I haven't tried that, but as I understand it, they are tightly
integrated and it's the DRM module that is crashing the system anyways,
not the radeon driver piece, however the driver DOES need to be updated
to solve the problem too. The radeon package only contains the xorg-
driver loadable module, which provides the DRM piece access to provide
the DRI interface for X programs. We need the DRM piece updated as the
current one is buggy. The old one mistreats non-TCL cards and misuses
the CPU, and the current one crashes often on TCL cards. I just don't
see being able to quickly pass a whole DRM/driver upgrade process as
this will affect everyone on all systems. BTW the driver/drm on that
site is mainly for radeon, so I'm not sure how the upgrade would affect
Intel/nv/nouveau drivers.

I have been testing these new drivers and DRM on a TCL enabled card and
they are stable and functional without needing any upgrade to Mesa. I
have had a crash running WoW on wine, but that was after playing for
hours in D3D mode. I couldn't even get into the world at all before
with the current drivers without kernel locking the system. The crash I
experienced only took down wine, not X, so it was more likely a wine
problem. If we could possibly pull these patches for the radeon branch
of DRM alone that would be great, but I think considerable core DRM
updates exist in this newer version which may prevent it. One more
thing to note: I noticed that if I run the 2.6.30 kernel with these new
modules the system runs fluidly and when I ran 2.6.28 I received random
freezing which would resume after a few seconds until one time I
received a total hard lock (numlock no longer worked). So there is a
problematic kernel portion involved in this too. I am running on ext4,
so that may be the problem there. This was in WoW of course, but I
expect similar results in any other intense 3D apps.

All OpenGL apps/games I've tried work just fine (extreme tux racer, warzone
2100, blender).
Oh, and for a real teaser, WoW runs at 10-20 FPS in a busy area in wine D3D
mode on my Radeon 9600 without needing to disable any extensions (I could not
get opengl mode to work unfortunately). All other 3D apps are equally fluid
and nice. It's not a superb card by any stretch of the imagination, so likely
all radeon cards should see impressive improvements. Still need to test
non-TCL cards though for the original problem of this thread. My non-TCL
laptop has been upgraded to karmic so this driver is not necessary anymore for
it. It runs fine.

The caveats are that I noticed a few graphical anomolies in wine d3d
with the texture handling, but nothing that causes tremendous harm. It
was working better than I've ever seen on OSS radeon drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()

2009-09-23 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
Correction to above. WoW OpenGL mode for wine works just fine with
these drivers with a few minor glitches: disappearing text inside
buildings and classic white minimap problem, but the D3D mode performs
equally well with less problems. The current drivers just hard lock the
system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 238903] Re: [atheros] kernel hang while transfering files over the wireless interface

2009-09-23 Thread Raphael Clancy
Same problem here with an Acer Aspire one. Which has an Atheros AR242x
(rev 01). I've tried using both NFS and Samba to mount remote file
systems. And, used both the file manager and cp to transfer files. No
mater what, I get a hard lock after transferring a couple of gigabytes.
However, using the exact same set up over the wired network works
perfectly. I'm running 9.04 with backports installed. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1251348 for another report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 281077] Re: Xdmx crashed with SIGSEGV in dmxCreateGC()

2009-09-23 Thread Lukas Diduch
Hi,

i'm working on Ubuntu 9.04. xdmx segfaults as described. Using an older
debian bin (as recommended on http://mitros.org/p/xdmx-setup.html) did
not solve the problem as well

I've built the xserver-xorg from source using apt-get source, since i've got to
know that xdmx is part of xorg since 2004.
Still getting segfaults by using:

xinit -- /usr/local/bin/Xorg
xdmx :1 -display ...:0 display ...:0

If needed i can provide backtraces and info from gdb. In any of the
three cases (install, debian-bin, build-bin) the segfaults occur in
different places though.

i have exactly the same problem as Nochka85

Some icons (Analogic Clock, Slider, System Monitor, Wifi) are invisibles
when they are placed IN the dock (no trouble when they are on a desklet

Fabounet (the main Cairo-Dock dev) thinks that there is maybe a problem
with the 'pbuffers' support in these Intel drivers.

Shall i close this bug and open an other one?

This computer works best with live CDs which allow selection of screen

Alas, scratch that. The mapping is still weird just this time around it's the
flat screen where I can't reach the bottom section of the screen since the
16:10 tablet is mapped to the 4:3 monitor without it being stretched.
It's the same for the 8.3-2 Version though so not worse either and, as
mentioned, I practically only need it to map correctly on the cintiq screen and
as I can't even do the on 9.04 it's an improvement to me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405800] Re: Please update wacom to 0.8.4-2 version

2009-09-23 Thread Martin Schmitz
As Ronan Mentions, I still had to modify the .fdi in order to use
wacomcpl but apart from that everything works for me. Using a Cintig 12
WX at 1280x800 and a flat screen at 1280x1024 and a Geforce 8800GT
running the proprietary drivers with TwinView horizontal. I can switch
screens and the mapping is done correctly (it is streched on the flat
screen but I don't really mind since I'm only drawing on the cintiq
anyways) which is more than I can tell than for my 9.04 setup where the
mapping is of (so that the tablet area doesn't align to the tablets
screen) and I can't switch screens, but I guess I just screwed up on
some settings there.

I'm also available for further tests.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435570] [NEW] xorg hangs during karmic install

2009-09-23 Thread Rick McBride
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Reporting this on behalf of nagap...@gmail.com. Not using ubuntu-bug
because I dont' have access to teh affected system. I'm pasting his
info, and will attach the apport-cli log he sent.:

Have created the apport-cli report based on Ubuntu 9.04. On this
hardware we are unable to install Ubuntu 9.10. During the installation
process, when the X comes up the complete desktop just hangs (keyboard,
mouse).

We also tried installing on different hardware and clone the image of it
using Clonezilla (www.clonezilla.org) and tried deploying on this
machine. The booting process was fine, but when it goes to X, the
complete desktop hangs. We have to do hard reset.

Other info: On this hardware, we have to use Safe Graphics mode during
installation with Ubuntu 9.04. We tried the same on Ubuntu 9.10, but it
doesn't help.

We need this to be fixed for our upcoming VMware Workstation release.
Ubuntu is our default testing platform and we want WS to work fine on
Ubuntu environment :)

If you need any additional info on this bug, please ping me. My
launchpad id is nagappan / nagap...@gmail.com.
