During the installation process, when the X comes up the complete desktop just hangs (keyboard, mouse). We also tried installing on different hardware and clone the image of it using Clonezilla (www.clonezilla.org) and tried deploying on this machine. The booting process was fine, but when it goes to X, the complete desktop hangs. We have to do hard reset. Other info: On this hardware, we have to use "Safe Graphics" mode during installation with Ubuntu 9.04. We tried the same on Ubuntu 9.10, but it doesn't help. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405800] Re: Please update wacom to 0.8.4-2 version

I can switch screens and the mapping is done correctly (it is streched on the flat screen but I don't really mind since I'm only drawing on the cintiq anyways) which is more than I can tell than for my 9.04 setup where the mapping is of (so that the tablet area doesn't align to the tablets screen) and I can't switch screens, but I guess I just screwed up on some settings there. Correction to above. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()
I haven't tried that, but as I understand it, they are tightly integrated and it's the DRM module that is crashing the system anyways, not the radeon driver piece, however the driver DOES need to be updated to solve the problem too. The radeon package only contains the xorg- driver loadable module, which provides the DRM piece access to provide the DRI interface for X programs. We need the DRM piece updated as the current one is buggy. The old one mistreats non-TCL cards and misuses the CPU, and the current one crashes often on TCL cards. I just don't see being able to quickly pass a whole DRM/driver upgrade process as this will affect everyone on all systems. BTW the driver/drm on that site is mainly for radeon, so I'm not sure how the upgrade would affect Intel/nv/nouveau drivers. I have been testing these new drivers and DRM on a TCL enabled card and they are stable and functional without needing any upgrade to Mesa. I have had a crash running WoW on wine, but that was after playing for hours in D3D mode. I couldn't even get into the world at all before with the current drivers without kernel locking the system. The crash I experienced only took down wine, not X, so it was more likely a wine problem. If we could possibly pull these patches for the radeon branch of DRM alone that would be great, but I think considerable core DRM updates exist in this newer version which may prevent it. One more thing to note: I noticed that if I run the 2.6.30 kernel with these new modules the system runs fluidly and when I ran 2.6.28 I received random freezing which would resume after a few seconds until one time I received a total hard lock (numlock no longer worked). So there is a problematic kernel portion involved in this too. I am running on ext4, so that may be the problem there. This was in WoW of course, but I expect similar results in any other intense 3D apps. All OpenGL apps/games I've tried work just fine (extreme tux racer, warzone 2100, blender). Oh, and for a real teaser, WoW runs at 10-20 FPS in a busy area in wine D3D mode on my Radeon 9600 without needing to disable any extensions (I could not get opengl mode to work unfortunately). All other 3D apps are equally fluid and nice. It's not a superb card by any stretch of the imagination, so likely all radeon cards should see impressive improvements. Still need to test non-TCL cards though for the original problem of this thread. My non-TCL laptop has been upgraded to karmic so this driver is not necessary anymore for it. It runs fine. The caveats are that I noticed a few graphical anomolies in wine d3d with the texture handling, but nothing that causes tremendous harm. It was working better than I've ever seen on OSS radeon drivers. -- [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
Hey everyone. I have been hacking away at appletouch.c for a little while now and have had minor success on various fronts. The reason I am looking at appletouch, not synaptics, is because ideally we want the driver to not 'average' the mouse position when > 2 fingers are being used. Synaptics only gets the scroll x,y position and finger count. It would be tough to "unaverage" out the x,y params in the higher level driver. So far I have had success in disabling scrolling altogether, to allow for a fully stable right click. This means that as soon as I put > 1 finger on the track pad, the cursor will not move, allowing a right click functionality. However, the way I implemented it does not allow for any kind of cursor movement, at all, with more than 1 finger on the pad. The side-scrolling feature still works, and in fact this configuration is pretty nice. However, ideally we want 2-finger scrolling. My second pseudo-success has come in that I can get 2-finger scrolling to work without jumpiness, but only if the first finger to touch the pad is on "top" of the bottom finger (closer to the keyboard). If the first finger is furthest from the keyboard, however, jumpy behaviour comes back. I have a few ideas I'm going to try out today. I'll post back here with success. I see, at a minimum, a patch for people who do not want 2-finger scrolling but DO want 2-finger right clicking. Blaine PATCH for stable right click, disables 2-finger scrolling. Edit /etc/hal/fdi/policy/appletouch.fdi and turn on vertical edge scrolling. /drivers/input/mouse/appletouch.c 620,623c620,629 < x = (dev->x_old * 3 + x) >> 2; < y = (dev->y_old * 3 + y) >> 2; < dev->x_old = x; < dev->y_old = y; --- > // *** Fixes the right-click instability problem, but > disables 2-finger scrolling *** > if ((max(x_f, y_f)) == 2) { > x = dev->x_old; > y = dev->y_old; > } else { > x = (dev->x_old * 3 + x) >> 2; > y = (dev->y_old * 3 + y) >> 2; > dev->x_old = x; > dev->y_old = y; > } -- Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413168] Re: Karmic upgrade not shutting off backlight after time
I think multiple bugs are getting mixed together. See bug 397839. According to Bryce at that bug report, xorg has been properly patched with both patches that Richard Hughes requests. gnome-power-manager is at a version where its fix is included. So xorg says the bug is invalid since they have the patches and gnome-power-manager says the bug in in xorg. >From the number of reports that are coming in on both bugs, it appears that the reality is that DPMS and blanking problems do remain. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435241] [NEW] Intel KMS ignores some monitor resolutions (SHP 31)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg If I connect my Dell Inspiron 1525 to my TV SHARP LC-32GA5E it is recognized correctly but the wrong resolutions are used/shown. Only the 4:3 resolutions 640,800 and 1024 are available. The TV is useable but the aspect ratio is wrong of course since it is a 16:9 display. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422406] Re: [i915gm] Karmic Koala, i915, Unknown monitor (fails to get EDID)
Found the exact scenario to reproduce my problem: When it works: 1. We have a laptop completely turned off. First we plug-in external monitor and then we turn it on. 2. Boot and try to get EDID - it works. How to make it fail: 3. Suspend my laptop. And unplug external monitor. 4. Wake it up. Adjust laptop screen resolution via System->Preferences->Display. 5. Suspend it again. Plug external monitor. 6. Wake it up. Try to get EDID - failure, it doesn't reads CRT edid anymore (but still reads LVDS edid). r...@my-laptop:/home/me# i2cdetect "intel drm CRTDDC_A" WARNING! Please follow these steps: Read where it says "Changing the Boot Option Configuration Line" so as to boot the live cd with a custom option https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Changing the Boot Option Configuration Line and add the following options instead of the one in the example (which is vga=771): hpet=force i8042.nopnp if this doesn't work, try the following options: i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop Let me know if it solves the problem -- touchpad does not work after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417084 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. When clicking on GSynaptics I get that I should set "SHMConfig" to "true" in xorg.conf, which I have done, but that does not help. "synclient -l" gives the the answer that I don't have access to shared memory and asks whether SHMConfig is disabled. I have added the *.fdi file according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#shmconfig, but nothing seems to help. laptop: bios-version:NOTE BIOS Version /358A1200 system-manufacturer:NEC Computers International system-product-name:VERSA P520 system-version:NN671799905 uname: Linux *pcname* 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux version signature: Ubuntu 2.6.24-16.30-generic -- touchpad does not work after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
