To avoid it try to set up 8 bit color depth, in xorg.conf file.

2009-09-24 Thread osarusan
This bug still exists in Karmic as well.

TwinView works just fine when using wacomcpl to adjust the stylus to
match the screen. However, with Separate X Screens there is no way to
make it work.

I agree that saying Just use TwinView is not a valid solution. I've
used TwinView for a while, and I am overall unhappy with it. I prefer
Separate X Screens, but I need my wacom to work with it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293884] [NEW] window focus lost for unknown reason

2009-09-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This happens with all applications I've used since updating to Intrepid.
If I run my mouse over the Maximize Window button, the window loses
focus. In Firefox, the window loses focus for various reasons, which
can include opening a new tab, switching tabs and closing tabs. It
seems to be completely random in Firefox, sometimes it won't lose focus,
sometimes it will lose focus. It also happens when running Update
Manager, it seems to steal focus from other windows.

This has only started since I upgraded to 8.10 from 8.04LTS.

I'm fairly new to Linux and Ubuntu so if you need more information,
please describe how to go about getting said info. Thanks!

run a text-based web browser.

Or, copy the file to a USB drive or your home directory, then boot for

I can confirm as well but my problem is that I can't get to the desktop.
I get a mixture of parameter 4 and 6 in the last lines of dmesg. I
will post my dmesg.log when I can. The odd thing is that the LiveCD
worked fine, I got a fully functional desktop - even compiz was switched
on automatically and worked well. But after install no desktop! Is this
new?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374831] Re: Jaunty locks up

2009-09-24 Thread Ari Mujunen
We have exactly the same kind of ATI board (01:00.0 VGA compatible
controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]) which we can
quite reliably and quickly crash in Jaunty by just taking Preferences /
Screensaver and with Preview previewing some 3D-intensive
screensavers; SkyRocket seems one of the quickest to kill the machine
and turn off DVI signal to the LCD monitor.

We will experiment with 'Option NoAccel / DRI false /
RenderAccel' and with 'Disable glx' but I'm suspecting that
disabling anything which prevents screensavers from using OpenGL with
direct rendering is going to help...

Note, I took the lazy way out changed hardware around. I think that

I've taken the if it doesn't work when I do that, then don't do that
approach... I don't really want to spend the time to find the
motherboard and card and put them with a power supply and hard drive and
install Ubuntu on the combination... es-pecially now that someone else

especially when it's a pop-up notification. I can't change the font for
my gnome-terminal without this happening. There seems to be something
with X. I have an XFX 750a board, amd phenom 9500, nvidia on-board 8200
video and used every driver known to man... even the official nvidia
drivers and all with the same outcome. Some updates have made it less
frequent but still persists. Anything I can do to help?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421626] [NEW] compiz crashes when using dual monitor, nvidia, hp pavillion dv6000

2009-09-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

compiz crashes the laptop (reboot occurs automatically) when using dual
monitor.

if I have the Visuals Effects set to None, the system works fine,
including dual monitor in Twin view. A few minutes after setting the
Visual Effects to Normal the laptop crashes.

I am not sure compiz is the culprit, actually probably it is not since I
believe compiz is not active when Visual Effects are set to Normal.

In any case, compiz works nicely when I don't have the second monitor
connected. The laptop crashes if I set the Visual Effects to Extra.

The second monitor is connected using the HDMI output.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421626] Re: compiz crashes when using dual monitor, nvidia, hp pavillion dv6000

2009-09-24 Thread Travis Watkins
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386740] Re: [K8M800] virtual size does not correctly set on panel

2009-09-24 Thread Márton Németh
I tested openchrome driver SVN793 + patch from comment #52. The external
monitor was connected. I added DefaultDepth 8 to the xorg.conf like
this:

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
DefaultDepth8
EndSection

The result is that the screen size is correctly recognised and set up to
1024x768 both on panel and on the external display. The mouse cursor is
only visible on panel, not on the external display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 325408] Re: Runs in low resolution(800x600) instead of 1024x768

2009-09-24 Thread Tormod Volden
tcodau,
It seems like the monitor does not report which resolutions it can use, and the
driver falls back to a safe resolution. What kind of monitor is this, and how
is it connected? Please see also
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Resolution on Problem: Autodetection
results in reduced resolutions available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435525] Re: no more desktop KDE after last update, only see cursor in black screen

2009-09-24 Thread fejes
Since my bug [436033] was marked as a duplicate of this one, I'll give
my quick synopsis:

The issue appears to be:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  kdebase-workspace-bin: Depends: kdebase-workspace-data (= 4:4.3.1-0ubuntu7)
but 4:4.3.1-0ubuntu5 is to be installed

kdebase-workspace-data source is available as 4.3.1-0ubuntu7, but the
latest compiled package available on the repositories appears to be
4.3.1-0ubuntu5.

If this package were upgraded on the repos, the following command should
fix the problem:

 sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop k3b
kpackagekit plasma-widget-networkmanagement kdebase-workspace-bin
kdebase-workspace-data

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845

2009-09-24 Thread useResa
I am running Karmic, fully updated, on a Dell Dimension 2300 with the indicated
Intel card see below result of lspci -vvnn command:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation
82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev
01)

I have the following version of compiz installed (partial output of aptitude
show):
Package: compiz
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1:0.8.3+git20090917-0ubuntu2
and the following version of the intel driver package:
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu1

I can confirm that the intel driver no longer is blacklisted in compiz since
the line has been commented out, see below:
# blacklist based on the pci ids
# See http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist for details
#T= 1002:5954 1002:5854 1002:5955 # ati rs480
#T=$T 1002:4153 # ATI Rv350
#T=$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:2a12 # intel 965
#T=$T 8086:2a02 # Intel GM965
#T=$T 8086:3577 8086:2562 # Intel 830MG, 845G (LP: #259385)
BLACKLIST_PCIIDS=$T

However, starting compiz, regardless whether I do this using System --
Preferences -- Appearance or by using the compiz-fusion icon results in
a desktop without panels and a free of mouse and keyboard. Also adding
the previously suggested option (AccelMethod XAA) to xorg.conf does not
help and also results in the freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436090] [NEW] [M6-LY] garbage instead of kwin and plasma elements when using XAA

2009-09-24 Thread a.tom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

as the title says
it happens on karmic alpha6, liveCD and installed system too (fully upgraded)
16 or 24 bit depth doesn't matter
by default, the card uses XAA. if I set it to EXA through xorg.conf, kwin
window decoration and plasma are fine too
there are some garbage around fonts though

card is
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility
M6 LY [1002:4c59]

i think it's important, becouse, as for now, people with this card can
hardly use the kubuntu live CD (actually the install works, but the
whole thing doesn't look good)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434032] [NEW] [Karmic6+regression]touchpad click disabled

2009-09-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On LiveCD Touchpad click is disabled by default.

It really means a huge usability issue, since almost all of users having a
laptop are used to tap the touchpad.
It only needs to come enabled by default, because it works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434032] Re: [Karmic6+regression]touchpad click disabled

2009-09-24 Thread Gabe Gorelick
I think with the new hotplugging in Xorg, you don't technically need an
Xorg.conf, but that having one will override default settings. So I
think this may be a bug in Xorg's handling of the tounchpad.

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: Incomplete = New

** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu)
