[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845
This morning's (at least for me morning) updates resulted in new versions of compiz and xserver-xorg-video-intel packages. compiz: Version: 1:0.8.3+git20090917-0ubuntu4 xserver-xorg-video-intel: Version: 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 I can confirm that indeed the intel 845G driver has been blacklisted again: # blacklist based on the pci ids # See http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist for details #T= 1002:5954 1002:5854 1002:5955 # ati rs480 #T=$T 1002:4153 # ATI Rv350 #T=$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:2a12 # intel 965 #T=$T 8086:2a02 # Intel GM965 T=$T 8086:3577 8086:2562 # Intel 830MG, 845G (LP: #259385) BLACKLIST_PCIIDS=$T unset T However ... IMHO ... this does not mean the bug is fixed. It means that with this action the symptom is prevented. I would very much like that a solution would come in which the intel driver can be removed from the blacklist and that compiz will be working again. -- [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421842] Re: screen corruption and segfaults with radeon m6 ly
It looks like 2 or 3 separate bugs all introduced into radeon_drv.so since Jaunty. From latest karmic, if I do sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade xserver-xorg-video- radeon_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_i386.deb everything is fine. Compiz effects are a bit slow, but I don't get segfaults or any screen corruption. So I tracked through the git versions... 1) A small amount of screen corruption around the window borders (with DRI and compiz visual effects) seems to have been introduced between xf86-video-ati-6.12.1 and xf86-video-ati-6.12.2. (I think the console/mode switching problems may have started during this period too, but were later fixed.) 2) The segfault was introduced between xf86-video-ati-6.12.2 and xf86-video-ati-6.12.3 in commit 3c348091ae5d88ef3cb850889ca74674e0530b4e (see attached) The conditions to produce this involve resizing a window or doing an operation larger than particular dimensions (with DRI and compiz visual effects), and it looks like the bad commit sets some dimension maxima too optimistically. Changing a line to xf86CrtcSetSizeRange (pScrn, 320, 200, 2560, 1200); stops the segfault, but I guess problems may go deeper than just that line, because it shouldn't segfault at all. This bug is also associated with screen corruption over large areas when a window with focus is dragged over one without focus. 3) The tartan patterns and font rendering problems (which only occur *without* DRI and compiz visual effects) are not present in xf86-video- ati-6.12.4, but are in the master head. I don't know how to locate these to an exact commit because of a merge and some compilation problems. Please let me know if I should do anything else, like report these upstream. I'd suggest this bug (421842) concentrates on the segfault (number 2 above), and I could open another ubuntu bug for number 3). Hope this isn't too confusing. ** Attachment added: git outputs showing commit causing segfault, and a diff with working values http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32483821/xf86-video-ati-bisect-segfault.txt -- screen corruption and segfaults with radeon m6 ly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 437173] [NEW] [GM45] Bad resulution choice for mirror mode with two 16:10 displays
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel With two 16:10 displays, a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop (1440 x 900) and a Dell 24'' TFT ( 1920 x 1200), the intel gfx driver chooses the 4:3 resolution of 1024x748 for both. Visual result is a low 4:3 transformed to fullscreen 16:10, this looks pretty poor. It's the first matching common resolution according to xrandr output, nevertheless ... ...much better would be: If both monitors have the same aspect ratio (e.g. 16:10 or 4:3) choose the smaller resolution as the common base and scale to the size bigger monitor.(Because only one monitor needs scaling it should even save tons of GPU cycles. With the proposed algorithm, one output runs with the 'perfect' native resolution and only one is transformed, with taspect ratio is presered! Currently base resolution is: lower than min. of both display, _both_ are transformed, aspect ratio is not kept. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 437113] [NEW] System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu Karmic on an Acer Aspire Revo 3600 which has an nVidia ION based chipset. It's been locking up fairly reliably for a few weeks. I can boot the machine, shutdown X, unload the nvidia kernel module and then leave it running and get no hang situations. If I leave X up, or shutdown X but leave the nvidia kernel module loaded I get hard lockups. Magic SysRq sequences do nothing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434416] Re: Xorg grabs all of RAM; UI appears frozen
It froze again today (twice). After the first time, I killed FF to get enough memory to run xrestop. The attached xrestop.out and xtop.out are from that session. Then I killed and restarted X, and things ran for a while. An hour and a half later, it froze again. I was able to regain partial control by right-clicking on the FF icon in the bottom panel (if that gives me a popup, I can then switch to one window and use it. I can't get to another window unless I can repeat this process successfully), and I captured xrestop2.out and top2.out while FF was still running. These freezes do make the machine next to unusable, unfortunately. ** Attachment added: xrestop.out http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32492796/xrestop.out -- Xorg grabs all of RAM; UI appears frozen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434416 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nv in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hello, This problem is NOT related to Nvidia. I have exactly the same problem running a motherboard with integrated ATI/AMD grafics. Hi all, The people who can help with this problem have recommended that we move the discussion to the Ubuntu Forums. Each post into this bug takes away from the time they have to fix the problem because they have to spend the time reading our comments instead. I recommend that we move suggestions, arguments and edge cases to this thread on the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1270527 We can post our comments there and if there is more feedback needed from us they can check on the forum. -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436695] [NEW] Nvidia driver update broke experience
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am not sure how to file this, or what additional information might be helpful, if you have something you'd like to see, let me know where it is or how to get the info and I'll happily provide it. I've been running Karmic on my laptop (Since alpha 6), which has a nvidia video card. I had encountered no problems, until I decided to enable the nvidia drivers using the hardware drivers launcher from the menu. (Chose the recommended option, I believe it was something like 183?). Upon reboot, the desktop appears to start up fine, but many things do not work as they should now. Examples: 1) If i click and drag on the desktop, I do not get any selection indication 2) Clicking GNOME application menu opens the menu, but they open with a flicker (looks almost like it is trying to fade in, but runs like 2 fps), and expand extremely slowly. 3) Most widgets inside windows will not gain focus (i can't type into a terminal window) but I can click exit buttons etc. I will happily help track down this issue if someone can walk me through what they need. It is also worth noting that I have run effects with no problem on the machine in previous releases, in case that is relevant. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nvidia driver update broke experience https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/436695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436695] Re: Nvidia driver update broke experience
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 436695 This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Nvidia driver update broke experience https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
