Hmm, I was impationed, and did a reinstall. And, the problem vanished. So this might have probably been related to the fact, I ran karmic for four month now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447577] Re: [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance
I don't want to speak too soon, but my issues seem to have drastically improved (resolved?). I can't say what did it - a recent update or just coincidence. One thing I have changed is stop using avant-window-navigator. Since I did test under a new user without any desktop effects (completely stock) and things seemed slow, this could be just a coincidence. In any event, I'm hoping my recent experience does indicate a resolve :) [updated system as of 0200 11OCT09] -- [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447171] Re: Ubuntu Karmic Beta will not boot with 2 monitors connected to nvidia card
Trying to reproduce the problem to generate those logs, it seems there is more to it; Here is what I did: I removed the nvidia driver and rebooted. With both screens attached, as expected, I got the graphical corruption (on both screens), and was unable to log in or or open a terminal with control alt function key. So I disconnected one of my screens, rebooted using the magic sysrq keys, and still got the same problem. Im guessing it has something to do with my xorg still referencing a second monitor? Anyway, so I rebooted again, this time in recovery mode, and saved the xorg log file, which you will find attached. I reinstalled the nvidia 185 drivers from the root shell, rebooted, and what do you know, I still had the graphical corruption with either 1 or 2 screens attached. Only after running nvidia-xconfig from a root shell, did I get a GUI again (albeit somewhat buggy with empty panels and extremely slow. Killing gnome-panel cured both problems). Anyway, attached my lspci output, the Xorg.0.log file that i saved from the root shell session (I suspect that is not overwritten when you don't start X ?) and a copy/paste from the messages log that relates to the first buggy boot (nvidia driver removed, both screens attached). ** Attachment added: lspci http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33438539/lspci -- Ubuntu Karmic Beta will not boot with 2 monitors connected to nvidia card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nv in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448711] [NEW] Screen tearing in Karmic Beta
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I've been an Alpha tester since Alpha 1 for Karmic. Reason why I was so quick to get on Karmic was because a developer stated to me that screen tearing problem that was present in Jaunty is fixed in Karmic. What was said came out to be true and through all the Alphas, no screen tearing was present. Fast forward to the release of the BETA and this is when the screen tearing problem first appears in Karmic. The problem isnt as big as it was in Jaunty. In Jaunty, after the final release, the whole desktop/gnome would tear the screen with movement. VLC player to Flash players. In Karmic, the problem only seems to appear while watching a video using FLASH. VLC sometimes hiccups as well, but its very minor. I booted up the old kernels to see if the problem exist and from Kernel 2.6.31-7 through 2.6.31-9, the problem isnt present. Going to kernel 2.6.31-10 is when the problem of screen tearing occurs and to 11 to kernel 12, it gets worst. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447904] [NEW] ttys broken with kernel 2.6.31-13
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, On my system (and seems that others are affected) switching from the X server to any tty using Ctrl+Alt+Fx keys results in some kind of nice paint artwork. The problem is that you cannot use any ttys since nothing is written on the screen. However you can continue to type in commands, and they're correctly taken into account. I do not use any framebuffer parameters when booting, my boot string in grub is : kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-13-generic root=UUID=53dfbfeb-5955-48e2-9039-e6c3b9b219d0 ro quiet splash The issue appeared after kernel upgrade to 2.6.31-13-generic, it was absent from 2.6.31-11-generic. The problem is that at the same time there was an NVidia driver upgrade, to I don't know if this is kernel- related or nvidia-driver related. However I think kernel is more likely to be affected. Seems that it does not affect all the users, especially the ones with Intel X drivers. Someone with en EeePC was not affected, see there in French : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=317166p=77 This bug is quite critical I think, since it's critical to get vts sometimes to get out some blocking situations. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448711] Re: [i965GM] Screen tearing in Karmic Beta
It seems that the problem was introduced between rc8 and rc9 (see http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html). Could you maybe check the mainline kernel builds from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and verify that v2.6.31-rc8 does not tear, while v2.6.31-rc9 does. That would give us a definite set of changes in the mainline kernel that they may look at upstream. -- [i965GM] Screen tearing in Karmic Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h
I had the same problem with my touchpad. My touchpad name is the same, but my laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400. I experimented with the two- finger values and found that leaving the width at 7 and changing the pressure to 40 results in the best two-finger scrolling experience. Is there anything I need to do to keep it working after rebooting? -- two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
