[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435745] Re: mtrr support is broken in Jaunty

2009-10-11 Thread fgre
The interesting line in the Xorg log is:
(--) PCI:*(0...@1:0:0) nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] rev 161, Mem @
0xfb00/16777216, 0xe800/134217728, BIOS @ 0x/131072

previous version of Xorg showed the memory range correctly (without the
?s)

I have currently fixed this issue by adding this to my rc.local until Xorg gets
fixed:
echo base=0xE800 size=0x0800 type=write-combining | /proc/mtrr

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442197] Re: [i945] Issues with the xserver-xorg-video-intel[?] on an Intel Mobile 945GME.

2009-10-11 Thread jmfrank
Hmm, I was impationed, and did a reinstall. And, the problem vanished.
So this might have probably been related to the fact, I ran karmic for
four month now. (Yes it was usable all the time, except for the last
three days.) So I withdraw my request for critical, as the problem is
very like to be unique to me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447577] Re: [Karmic] Regression in Intel i9xx performance

2009-10-11 Thread hewbert
I don't want to speak too soon, but my issues seem to have drastically
improved (resolved?).

I can't say what did it - a recent update or just coincidence. One
thing I have changed is stop using avant-window-navigator. Since I did
test under a new user without any desktop effects (completely stock) and
things seemed slow, this could be just a coincidence.

In any event, I'm hoping my recent experience does indicate a resolve :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447171] Re: Ubuntu Karmic Beta will not boot with 2 monitors connected to nvidia card

2009-10-11 Thread P4man
Trying to reproduce the problem to generate those logs, it seems there
is more to it; Here is what I did: I removed the nvidia driver and
rebooted. With both screens attached, as expected, I got the graphical
corruption (on both screens), and was unable to log in or or open a
terminal with control alt function key.

So I disconnected one of my screens, rebooted using the magic sysrq
keys, and still got the same problem. Im guessing it has something to do
with my xorg still referencing a second monitor? Anyway, so I rebooted
again, this time in recovery mode, and saved the xorg log file, which
you will find attached.

I reinstalled the nvidia 185 drivers from the root shell, rebooted, and
what do you know, I still had the graphical corruption with either 1 or
2 screens attached. Only after running nvidia-xconfig from a root shell,
did I get a GUI again (albeit somewhat buggy with empty panels and
extremely slow. Killing gnome-panel cured both problems).

Anyway, attached my lspci output, the Xorg.0.log file that i saved from
the root shell session (I suspect that is not overwritten when you
don't start X ?) and a copy/paste from the messages log that relates to
the first buggy boot (nvidia driver removed, both screens attached).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372575] Re: [i945gme] [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-10-11 Thread hiaslboy
It happens to my installation too.
Chipset is Intel 945gme within a NC10 Samsung Netbook Laptop.

I have the remix installed and update the system frequently.

The Xserver installed:
xserver-xorg:
  Installiert: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
  Kandidat: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 1:7.4~5ubuntu18 0
500 http://at.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
500 ftp://ftp.tugraz.at jaunty/main Packages

As mentioned above after reboot the system comes up as usual, while the
system is running nothing changes on the external screen. (I am using
only the external screen)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355071] Re: synaptics driver ignores options set by hal

2009-10-11 Thread Dmitriy Geels
Mikko, hal is deprecated in 9.10, so it's not a bug anymore. Syndaemon works
now and it doesn't require SHMConfig.
Syndaemon shows correct values set by xinput.

In jaunty I used this script to workaround not working shmconfig:

xinput set-int-prop 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' 'Synaptics Edge Scrolling' 8 0
0 0
xinput set-int-prop 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' 'Synaptics Two-Finger

xinput set-int-prop 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' 'Synaptics Edge Motion Always'

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442553] Re: evtoch calibration does not consistently work

2009-10-11 Thread Andrew Frank
i just installed the new distribution - the behaviour has not changed
substantially:
1. calibration is lost with every restart
2. calibration is after restart mapping any touch to the lower left corner
(opening trash)
- after recalibratin it is off (calibration shows 400/400 as min values
only after the second recalibration (which shows 400/1400 for min values) the
calibration is precise.
then it works --- till the next restart or even a hibernate/rewake makes it
loose calibration.

thanks for your attention

THAT to everyone else. What needs to happen is this (taken from #52):
Keep in mind...This ONLY works if you have successfully applied the
 patch PREVIOUSLY:

 (1. ) add the following two lines to the bottom of
 /usr/src/nvidia-185.18.36/dkms.conf:

 PATCH[1]=pat.patch
 PATCH_MATCH[1]=2.6.31

 (2. ) After that, you have to recompile the kernel module nvidia and
 reboot afterwards:

 $ sudo dkms remove -m nvidia -v 185.18.36 --all
 $ sudo dkms add -m nvidia -v 185.18.36

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447765] Re: Can't switch to console mode

2009-10-11 Thread Rocko
@Bryce: I'm curious why you've marked this as only affecting the
nvidia-180 drivers when (a) it happens on my PC when X is not using the
the nvidia driver, and (b) it happens on Hans B's machine which is using
an ATI card?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 391461] Re: Compiz broken on Karmic with NVIDIA driver and CPU without PAT support

2009-10-11 Thread Track0000
Ok, sorry, my fault.
The reinstallation of the Nvidia Sources and the complete procedure showed by
Diggs808, solve any problem.
I noticed a slight decrease of performances in GL but everything seems to run
properly now, my card has understood that I want to use accelerations.
I have not jet understood, why someone includes that test into the nvidia.ko
kernel module, and if this patch does not produces any problem in future, but
my sistem goes right now and this is ok.
Thanks !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448711] [NEW] Screen tearing in Karmic Beta

2009-10-11 Thread Tjeremiah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I've been an Alpha tester since Alpha 1 for Karmic. Reason why I was so
quick to get on Karmic was because a developer stated to me that screen
tearing problem that was present in Jaunty is fixed in Karmic. What was
said came out to be true and through all the Alphas, no screen tearing
was present.

Fast forward to the release of the BETA and this is when the screen
tearing problem first appears in Karmic. The problem isnt as big as it
was in Jaunty. In Jaunty, after the final release, the whole
desktop/gnome would tear the screen with movement. VLC player to Flash
players. In Karmic, the problem only seems to appear while watching a
video using FLASH. VLC sometimes hiccups as well, but its very minor.

I booted up the old kernels to see if the problem exist and from Kernel
2.6.31-7 through 2.6.31-9, the problem isnt present. Going to kernel
2.6.31-10 is when the problem of screen tearing occurs and to 11 to
kernel 12, it gets worst.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447904] [NEW] ttys broken with kernel 2.6.31-13

2009-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

On my system (and seems that others are affected) switching from the X
server to any tty using Ctrl+Alt+Fx keys results in some kind of nice
paint artwork. The problem is that you cannot use any ttys since nothing
is written on the screen. However you can continue to type in commands,
and they're correctly taken into account.

I do not use any framebuffer parameters when booting, my boot string in grub is
:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-13-generic
root=UUID=53dfbfeb-5955-48e2-9039-e6c3b9b219d0 ro quiet splash

The issue appeared after kernel upgrade to 2.6.31-13-generic, it was
absent from 2.6.31-11-generic. The problem is that at the same time
there was an NVidia driver upgrade, to I don't know if this is kernel-
related or nvidia-driver related. However I think kernel is more likely
to be affected.

Seems that it does not affect all the users, especially the ones with Intel X
drivers. Someone with en EeePC was not affected, see there in French :
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=317166p=77

This bug is quite critical I think, since it's critical to get vts
sometimes to get out some blocking situations.

Rgds,

gojul

2009-10-11 Thread Christopher Tozzi
Antioch: thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I tested it again an
hour ago on a fully upgraded Karmic system (installed to hard disk) and
the behavior has not changed. It still freezes about a minute after
enabling desktop effects, and neither dmesg nor Xorg.0.log shows
anything afterwards that looks relevant to the crash. I will keep
applying the Karmic updates and rebooting daily to see if there's a
difference; in the meantime I'm happy to provide any other information
that will help get this fixed before the final release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448826] [NEW] Mouse pad on Acer Aspire One doesn't register taps as mouse clicks

2009-10-11 Thread themusicalduck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Fresh Karmic beta install using unetbootin. Downloaded the latest daily
through that. Did any updates found too.

My mousepad does not register when you tap it as a mouse click. Only way
to click somewhere is to use the actual buttons. This worked fine in
9.04. Scrolling and movement both work fine.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire One.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448825] [NEW] No kernel modesetting driver detected. GDM loads Low-Res screen

2009-10-11 Thread gBug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I Updated my xserver-xorg-video-intel and its dependencies through the
normal Update Manager, my screen refused to load to normal resolution
and 'Normal' or 'Extra' effects were disabled after my GDM flagged
errors at the splash thus:

=
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected.
(II) UnloadModule: intel
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I tried 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-org' but it couldn't fix the GDM
resolution issue each time. Overwriting the old 'xorg.conf' with the
'backups/failsafe' didn't help too.

It definitely crashes inside nvidia's libGL but it's different looking
enough to probably be a new bug instead of a dupe of that one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448711] Re: [i965GM] Screen tearing in Karmic Beta

2009-10-11 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
It seems that the problem was introduced between rc8 and rc9 (see
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html).
Could you maybe check the mainline kernel builds from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and verify that
v2.6.31-rc8 does not tear, while v2.6.31-rc9 does. That would give us a
definite set of changes in the mainline kernel that they may look at
upstream.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h

2009-10-11 Thread Brad Pitcher
I had the same problem with my touchpad. My touchpad name is the same,
but my laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400. I experimented with the two-
finger values and found that leaving the width at 7 and changing the
pressure to 40 results in the best two-finger scrolling experience. Is
there anything I need to do to keep it working after rebooting?
