[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460664] Re: White screen of death on Dell Studio 15

2009-11-01 Thread baba lafayette
Hi,
I can confirm this bug. As was being discussed in bug #297245, changing the
options to NOMODESET does show the boot screen, but the screen turns black
after the splash screen. After sometime the WSoD appears.

I changed the driver from intel to vesa and i was able to atleast
login.

Thanks
B.

Subject: [Bug 432814] Re: Action for middle and right click is reversed since
jaunty

Just upgraded to 9.10 and discovered this bug. Since the source code fix
posted a couple of weeks ago looks pretty simple, might we see it pushed
out in an update soonish?

Reading the forums blogs, it looks like the move from hal to udev made
this behavior non-configurable (in addition to being wrong). That's a
shame.

You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber
of the bug.

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

LSB version = karmic
Package version = 1.1.2-1ubuntu5

Expected behaviour:
Tap the touchpad with 2 fingers simultaneously to generate middle-click event.
Tap with 3 fingers for right-click event.

Observed behaviour:
A 2-finger tap generates a right-click event and a 3-finger tap generates a
middle-click event.

Looking at the changelog for 1.1.2-1ubuntu1 I see this:
105_correct_multifinger_click.patch: Swap the right/middle clicks generated by
multi-finger tapping.
This patch is then reverted in 1.1.2-1ubuntu2:
105_correct_multifinger_click.patch: Drop patch as it breaks the expected
behavior for multitouch clicking (LP: #320585).

However, I still experience the behaviour introduced in -1ubuntu1.
Hopefully I can help get the expected behaviour back in time for
karmic's release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 136784] Re: X crashes and returns to log-in when starting certain games

2009-11-01 Thread Zenaan Harkness
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 130325 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130325

I don't think this is a dup of 130325!

Please see my comments in 1228207.

Basically, this bug is elusive, and evidently manifesting in different
ways (eg by running gl games, screensaver, or as in my case, just by
attempting to switch from GDM console to text console (ie looking at GDM
on console 6, and pressing Ctl-Alt-1 to go to console 1, and machine
hangs cold!)

So I suspect this is some sort of race/threading problem, or at the
least, something at a lower level in Xorg!

My drivers are Intel standard built-in, other people has been Nvidia,
etc, so not driver-specific as far as I can tell.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368219] Re: [RV280] 9200se no normal visual effect unless BusType PCI specified

2009-11-01 Thread Karel Marik
I reopened this issue as Bryce Harrington call for it in previous post. Now I
am facing following situation:
(1) Default Karmic Koala driver is not working properly on my desktop.
(2) My children have been asking Why Supertux is not running? Why does Google
Earth crash? When will be our computer fixed?
(3) I would like to help resolve this issue but there is no response to my
report for several days.

What should I do? Should I wait further for any response here? Should I
give up it and install another driver? Which? How? Should I go back to
9.04 which was working fine? Please, tell me.

I understand it may not be a top priority to resolve it. I am OK with
it. Just let me know.

This happened yesterday too, within hours of a reboot.
I have no idea how to trigger it :/

Additionally, when trying to report with ubuntu-bug -p xorg it said
not to use -p, while here on launchpad it says I should.

/tmp is waiting for (null)
/{mount point} is waiting for {some-long-id}

I then rebooted using Ctrl-Alt-Del and chose recovery mode. Now it just
prints the following error, every 2 mins:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 467236] Re: iwl3945 Failed to get channel info for channel 140 after upgrade to karmic

2009-11-01 Thread Havard Bjastad
It seems to be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/431166 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/464591 - but I don't
think it's a duplicate, since none of them mention the Failed to get
channel info for channel 140 error message...

I tried booting into kernel .28 (instead of .31), and that worked. I
then changed xorg.conf from nvidia driver to nv driver, and booted into
.31 - that worked! But using the Proprietary Drivers dialog to activate
NVidia didn't seem to work (it would say downloading and installing, but
afterwards still show it as inactive - even if xorg.conf had been
updated to use the nvidia driver). Rebooting .31 with the nvidia driver
gave the same problem as described above.

So, while it clearly is related to xorg and nvidia, I need suggestions
to get any closer to a solution...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458588] Re: [x-updates] X fails to start with i810 module not found error

2009-11-01 Thread Tormod Volden
In Jaunty, we had 116_8xx_disable_dri.patch which turned off DRI for i8xx cards:
because it fails to run without freezing on i810 and i865G chips. (See LP
304871)

The x-updates (and Karmic) packages have reenabled DRI, that's why you
might get trouble.

Can you please confirm that you are running without DRI with the Jaunty
package, and that you can run the x-updates package fine with DRI
disabled? Use this in the Device section of your xorg.conf: Option DRI

So that might explain why we now see some trouble on i8xx cards since
DRI got reenabled.

As a stop-gap solution for those who have no other option, I have
prepared a retro package of 2.7. It is currently in
https://launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive/ppa and if it works
out for you I will move it to the retro PPA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447835] Re: Java corrupts xserver or nvidia module

2009-11-01 Thread Xavier Lagraula
Hello,

Same issue here, with latest version of JDownloader (9.310), Asus P5E3
Deluxe mobo, Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT with v185 driver installed through
the provided proprietary drivers management tool. Linux distro is a
vanilla Kubuntu v9.10 AMD64 (installed a few days ago).

I can report that this issue could lead to a complete crash of the box.
When I'm lucky, I may fall to a text console (ctrl-alt-F1), kill java
and get back to KDE. All corrupted bitmap caches remain corrupted in
that case, what can be fixed by closing/reopening my user session.

I cannot tell if the issue is with java or with JDownloader, as I
haven't had the time to try another Java application so far. And I won't
have today.

Finally, yes, not using the nvidia driver solves the issue for me. But
it's a high price to pay.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378818] Re: Mouse stopped working after upgrade to Karmic

2009-11-01 Thread Jan van de Voort
Did an upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic Koala - PS2 mouse worked fine in
Jaunty, just disappeared in 9.10. However, for a newly created user, no
problem, user has mouse in desktop session. But for any previously
created users on the system, there is just no mouse. When starting
Nautilus from the terminal, I get my mouse again, and I can use it
normally. To make sure it is not a theme problem, I reverted to default
Ubuntu theme...but still no mouse, except when doing the workaround with
terminal / nautilus.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 467967] [NEW] Openchrome driver not working after Karmic upgrade

2009-11-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Greetings,

I have an ASUS motherboard which thus far has been running Kubuntu
Intrepid and Jaunty fine with no issues. I upgraded to Karmic yesterday
and suddenly found that I cannot log into my system any longer. I enter
my username and password and try to log in. KDE attempts to start
loading and gets to the loading screen with the five icons. The HDD
icon lights up and then the screen flickers and I'm back at the login
screen. Sometimes, it progresses past this stage and then kicks me back
to the login screen.

I can log in fine via a terminal (with ctrl + alt + f1). I have
updated all my packages with apt.

* This board has a VIA chipset and requires unichrome drivers. I'm pretty
certain that I was using the openchrome drivers and had things working with
Jaunty. I tried reinstalling these via apt.
* I've tried using xorg -configure to create a template xorg.conf file and used
it.
* With the above xorg.conf file, I've tried specifying vesa as the driver. X
complained about vesa not supporting 24 bit and crashed.
* I've also tried removing xserver-xorg-video-openchrome and restarting. X does
not start.

I'll attach log files shortly.

I'm happy to stick around and get this solved completely. But in the
interim, could somebody suggest a way to get my display back with VESA?
I don't mind 640x480 resolution etc. while I try to find a solution.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426791] Re: Acer Aspire One AO751h screen unknown

2009-11-01 Thread Nicolas Bruley
I've installed Karmic (standard 32-bit Desktop edition, not the UNR) on my
Aspire One AO751h netbook ;
I thought that this 1366x768 support on Aspire One issue would have been
solved natively in Karmic, along with the fixes of the Intel video drivers
mumbo-jumbo seen in Jaunty.

So I'm trying to understand why the packages that were published here on
Launchpad for 9.04 don't work any longer in Karmic :
I've unpacked the .deb files (xserver-xorg-video-psb, libdrm-poulsbo1,
psb-kernel-source) that seem to bring the xorg modified stuff to support
1366x768 with the Intel Poulsbo chip (which is included in the Aspire One
AO751h ; some quick conclusions would be that :
 - xserver-xorg-video-psb requires libdrm-poulsbo1
 - but libdrm-poulsbo1 is marked as conflicting with libdrm2
 - and (unfortunately...) libdrm2 is installed by default in Karmic
I've tried to compile the psb-kernel-source part separately as shown by its deb
package postinst script, but it fails at some point because some DRM_... C
structures brought by the OS are not defined as expected by the psb source
code... so I guess this is one of the show-stopper differences between libdrm2
and libdrm-poulsbo1 ?
If you try to uninstall libdrm2, well dpkg wants to ununinstall xorg completely
first...
So I feel stuck at this point, don't know how to get further.

Don't hesitate to point out if what I'm describing above is not correct
; if I can be of any help, just ask...

I'm experiencing the same issues on the same hardware (Radeon ML6/7000)

degrades performance (noticable when dragging windows for example). I
noticed the screen corruption with the system monitor, compiz, and
notifications but also with Gnometris. Don't those applications all use
Cairo or is it coincidental? Other applications such as Evolution or
Firefox showed no artifacts at all, but something simple as Gnometris
did.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468393] [NEW] Checkbox killed VBox custom resolution for Guest Additions

2009-11-01 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 9.10 beta upgraded to final with Guest Additions installed in
VBox 3.0.8 on Ubuntu 8.04.3.

9.10 display was perfect with Guest Additions until I ran System
Testing. When Checkbox cycled through the display test, it failed during
the resolution-switching portion and was unable to go back to the custom
resolution set by the Guest Additions (12xx by 6xx).

Rebooting the system failed to fix this, as did reinstalling Guest
Additions. I can only suppose that there is something wrong with
Xorg.conf now.

Hardware: Dell Latitude D800 notebook 1.4 Ghz.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
CheckboxCommand: resolution_test
CheckboxDescription:
This display is using the following resolution:

Is this acceptable for your display?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional

2009-11-01 Thread Stéphane
Hello,

With no surprise, my try to install kubuntu 9.10 from the alternative CD gives
the same result. The install is OK due to text mode, but xorg freezes on the
first boot, just the mouse move.
I've tried many tricks founded on the Web, use i915.modeset=0, nomodeset, write
a minimalist xorg.conf to disable DRI or force to use vesa driver. Nothing
works. For the tips which consists of removing compiz, Kubuntu didn't use it,
so...
For the moment 9.04 will be back on my Asus, if someone can help me, I'll be
very happy.
Of course I'm OK to help by transmit log files or make some tests.

Stéphane

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442164] Re: Synaptics Touchpad Not Detected

2009-11-01 Thread DieterVDW
I had a lot of problems too because of that reason, of which most problems were
solved after selecting the 'right' kernel.
The touchpad problems remains though.

However I realize I got the touchpad working with the 'wrong' kernel by doing
the following:
echo options psmouse proto=exps /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe

(As described here: http://danilogurovich.wordpress.com/2009/10/17
/ubuntu-karmic-koala-9-10-beta-buggy-touchpad-behavior/ )

Maybe that has something to do with it...
Will try undoing that change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 428920] Re: Crash after initializing GLX on -nvidia

2009-11-01 Thread michkorch
I had the same symptoms as Ned Patterson. The problem ceased after
removing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, creating a new one (by executing
nvidia-xconfig) and installing 185 kernel module (aptitude install
nvidia-185-kernel-source).

I think karmic should do something automatically (or at least switch to
nonrestricted drivers in problematic case), because doing it manually is
too complicated for a beginning user -- he would rather give up and
switch to windows... :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397839] Re: Screen randomly goes off in karmic

2009-11-01 Thread molecule-eye
I can confirm in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic using Intel 945GM graphics and stock
Intel drivers. Roughly every 10min. of inactivity (sometimes less) the
screen blanks. The screensaver is disabled and gnome-power-management is
set not to blank the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442164] Re: Synaptics Touchpad Not Detected

2009-11-01 Thread DieterVDW
Ok, undoing the above fix by removing the /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe
file fixes this issue for me.
Pretty stupid after all... Just mindlessly applied copy-pasted the command and
never really thought about what it did.
Sorry for the clutter guys!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458588] Re: [x-updates] X fails to start with i810 module not found error

2009-11-01 Thread Paganini
Hi Tormod,

I updgraded to Karmic yesterday, so this will be more difficult for me
to test. I will have more resources when I get home next week, so I will
look into it then.

Just a side note, Karmic has the same issue with the mouse pointer that
the x-updates package did in Jaunty - it's invisible when I first boot
up, but appears after I lock and unlock the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2009-11-01 Thread Photon
If you need a workaround until the fix (?), this one has been pointed
out on the forums:

  synclient TapButton2=2; synclient TapButton3=3;

However, those commands have to be run at each session's start (you can
add them in Preferences → Startup Applications).

The problem still PERSISTS on my PC.

Should I just downgrade to Jaunty where Video Playback was fine?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458588] Re: [x-updates] X fails to start with i810 module not found error

2009-11-01 Thread Michael Langerhorst
@Tormod Volden:
I reinstalled 9.04 in the meantime (had an image). When I looked up my
xorg.conf, I didn't find any option with DRI. You find my xorg as an
attachment. Is there a realistic chance that intel will patch this driver
within a couple of weeks? As far as I know the buggy intel driver is quite a
while well known.
I wasn't able to install your patch - I would need a better description.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468412] [NEW] 3D display in Supertuxkart mangled

2009-11-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: supertuxkart

In Ubuntu 9.10, the 3D display is finally working at a decent speed for
my ATI card. However, the display in the 3D parts of Supertuxkart now
looks something like what's in the attachment. All hopes of waiting for
a patch to xorg/ati to solve this problem have been in vain.

Please please please fix this problem, because without a working version
of Supertuxkart,, life simply isn't worth living.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 466813] Re: after upgraded to 9.10, 1024x768 mode disappeared although it was on 9.04

2009-11-01 Thread jason wang
I figured out dpkg-reconfigure doesn't work on Karmic anymore, the
equivalent is Xorg -configure; However even a new xorg.conf is
generated, nothing changed. I've searched the Internet for a whole day
today, have not found anything to fix or walkaround this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440233] Re: fglrx fails at startup because of missing amdpcsdb.default + removal leaves bad settings in Xorg.conf

2009-11-01 Thread Christian Funder Sommerlund
Thanks Ocram

Unfortunately, you seem to suffer from yet another error. The log you
provided actually passes the stage this bug report is about:

(II) PCS database file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb not found
(II) Creating PCS database from initial defaults instead

I can't see any obvious error messages in that log file. Either way, I
suggest you file a new bug (by running ubuntu-bug xorg-driver-fglrx or
ubuntu-bug fglrx-installer (one of them should work) from the system.
In gnome, you can simply push ALT + F2 to get a run box, or you can pass
the command into a terminal. Please attach the above logfile to that
report too :).

2009-11-01 Thread Tormod Volden
Paganini, the official Karmic version is the same as in x-updates/Jaunty
so I expect the same issue there, unless some kernel changes have fixed
it.

Michael, there is no such option in xorg.conf by default, you will have
to add it. In Jaunty it was disabled in the driver, not in the
xorg.conf.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468412] Re: 3D display in Supertuxkart mangled

2009-11-01 Thread Christopher Neville-Smith
I can only reproduce this in Supertuxkart on Ubuntu 9.10. For some
reason, it doesn't appear in ExtremeTuxRacer (the graphics are a little
jumpy but not as mangled as this issue) or any of the 3D screensavers,
and neither did this appear in version 9.04 of Ubuntu (although the
display was a lot slower).

Is this a duplicate of the catch-all bug titled ATI's support for Linux
sucks?
