@sachin best response i can give you is, unfortunately, that there are serious issues with 9.10 karmic in some configurations. you can add your own xorg.conf in karmic to get things working (pretty much just as explained above), but for me at least there are still constant crashes and calibration issues at boot, after suspend, etc... i should point out that these various issues may not in fact be related to this bug at all though. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486722] [NEW] Resolution for login window and user session autoconfigured to wrong resolution on fresh installation
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gdm When I install Ubuntu I am autoconfigured the wrong resolution for my 1024x768 screen (1600x1200). In System-Preferences-Display I can change the resolution to 1024x768 but the refresh rate is stuck at 0hz (Impossible) and the monitor is identified as Unknown. After this adjustment the session is in the correct resolution. Unfortunately the System-Preferences-Display adjustment does not effect the login dialogue which is still configured to 1600x1200. This means I am unable to see all of the features of the display window because they are situated off the bottom right hand corner of the screen. In my system, tho, I'm experiencing complete instability with the 185.18.36 on the 2.6.31-9-rt kernel from Ubuntu Studio 9.10. I'm experiencing this running a Nvidia Go 7700 with compiz turned on with 'Extra' effects. Changing to 'None' appears to solve some issues, at least so far I've noticed in 2 days running the box. Also, on the default instalation there were problems with artifacts rendering the system unusable to a complete mess on screen with windows shaped like triangles flying around. Turned off powermizer with the PerfLevelSrc=0x fix and problems remained only on instability like blinking, compiz changing automaticly to None setting and random freezes that eventually turn into a system crash once I used a scroll bar for too long. I'll gladly welcome any advice. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487184] Re: Okular with intel graphics driver does not draw view in page thumbnail
This also occurs with ksnapshot's region capture mode feature. As both these involve transparent overlays of things, I imagine this is in fact the same bug. Steps to reproduce for ksnapshot: 1. Run ksnapshot 2. Set Capture Mode to Region 3. Press New Snapshot 4. Drag some region of the screen Expected: Screen gets slightly darker with the region in question left undarkened and a little resize widget on the border. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Toshiba Satellite P100 PSP-A3C laptop, Nvidia GeForce Go 7600, running Karmic 2.6.31-15, Nvidia proprietary driver 185. GNOME-Sensors applet reports CPU stable at about 60 C, GPU climbs slowly up to about 90 C, then the system shuts down. On 9.04, I had the same problem, but I was able to load a custom DSDT, after which the fan ran properly, and the system stayed cool, GPU around 65 C. Also stays cool under Windows XP. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479038] Re: Unable to set lower resolution
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command in a terminal after reproducing the issue, and it it will automatically gather debugging information needed for this bug: apport-collect 479038 (You may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your bug report.) Also, does it work correctly if you have the projector attached from boot? Fwiw, the likely reason that this regressed since 9.04 is because modesetting (selecting resolutions for different outputs) has moved from X to the kernel, and so some of the logic may have changed. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Unable to set lower resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479038 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479323] Re: External monitor suddenly gets wrong resolution on laptop (nvidia).
Thanks for testing this. For what it's worth, I have been suspecting a recent kernel patch which altered graphics card timings, but I'm not really sure. It is interesting from that perspective that you booted an earlier kernel and it did not make the issue go away. I wonder if something changed somewhere other than the kernel, which affects being able to read the edid from the graphics card? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
Another thing that may work (and it is useful for us to know whether it does for you) is the 'nomodeset' option combined with the xorg.conf from comment #19. I think this is what acpi=off might be doing (in addition to turning off power management and other stuff). It seems that on some chipsets the DRI option in xorg.conf is ignored when KMS is used, (c.f. comment #6). Could you try the following two cases and upload the resulting Xorg.0.log here? 1. xorg.conf from comment #19 without nomodeset. (My hypothesis: You get a freeze, so you will have to get the Xorg.0.log via ssh) 2. xorg.conf from comment #19 with nomodeset. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486473] [NEW] Mouse starts acting weird.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: From time to time my mouse starts acting weird. The pointer still moves as expected but on clicks it reacts as if the position didn't change (i.e. wherever I click, the reaction stays the same.) Since this happens in KDE as well as in XFCE, I think this bug is in xorg or hald. But I'm not quite sure where exactly. I'm running an up-to-date kubuntu 9.10 (amd64). edit: Got some additional information: GDM won't start. It just pops up a message that says it won't start due to the Error (EE) HID 046a:0023: failed to initialize for relative axes.. 046a:0023 is my keyboard. It has no axis. (Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046a:0023 Cherry GmbH Cymotion Master Linux Keyboard) KDM starts without an error message. The mouse position seems not to be caught at one point but at an area (i.e. a textarea in a chatprogram or the menu of a window). As I tried to describe: The visible pointer is not caught at all. But when I click it reacts as if it was in the area where it's caught. I have no idea how to trigger the bug. It happens while watching movies or typing (it just happened while I wrote this). It once even happened directly after the login. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
Sorry to disappoint, but I just re-checked and indeed all test data I submitted so far had set the DRI=off option (as can be seen from the Xorg logs I posted). This stems from the very first tests I did, and in order not to introduce to many variables, I left it at that setting. Correct. The problem doesn't occur with libxcb1 1.1-1ubuntu1. I did notice that this is exposed by the fact that we divert /usr/bin/firefox to /usr/bin/firefox.distrib. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487347] [NEW] Samsung NC10 touchpad generates hundres of interrupts per minutes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Ubuntu 9.10 fresh install (generally base configuration with no external hardware connected) xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.1.2-1ubuntu7 Samsung NC10 11CA BIOS When performing testing to reduce battery drain on my NC10 netbook, I've been tracking the CPU wake-ups. I was using gnome-power-statistics to track the CPU. When the computer was idle, there would be around 40 wake-ups per second. While using the trackpad, there would be ~475 interrupts for the trackpad as well as ~150 additional interrupts per second generally increased (totalling around ~667/second). I even had one instance (not recorded unfortunately, where it was in the thousands). I compared this against other laptops running fresh 9.10 installation as well as desktops running it. Even using a USB mouse, they only generate tens or less of interrupts per second, not hundreds. Since other laptops don't show this problem but the NC10 does, I'm guessing it's a cofiguration/setup issue. I was looking at Bug #194489, and it seems to be perhaps related, but somewhat different. If I'm not using the touchpad, it doesn't generate spurious interrupts, but when I do use it, it seems to be way too high. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- synaptics/+bug/194489 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Samsung NC10 touchpad generates hundres of interrupts per minutes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487352] Re: xorg crashes on login with PAE kernel + nvidia
sudo apt-get remove xsplash solves this problem for me, although presumably there's still a bug in the nvidia driver if xsplash can SEGV it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487362] [NEW] xorg is eating up memory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg i have two Kubuntu Karmic installations, one on a desktop pc (2GB RAM, intel Core duo 6400), another on a laptop(Touchsmart Tx2 1300). I have on both the same problem that xorg process is eating up memory. On the pc the nvidia-driver 190.42 and on the laptop the latest stable fglrx driver. After start up xorg uses about 35mb of RAM. Then goingly quickly up when it uses more than 1GB the pc gets slow. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487361] [NEW] nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Public bug reported: The default xorg driver does not show a workable screen from the install cd or from the standard xorg driver after installation. I needed to drop to a root console to install the nv 180 driver for my nvidia 7600GS systems. It was very frustrating because about 20 of my systems use the nividia 7600GS card. Having no display show up when booting from cd or after using the text install from the 1st hard drive on every machine was a pain. I have noticed several bug reports with the nvidia 7600 cards closed or just dropped. This is a true bug in the Karmic final release. I have tried it on multiple machines. karlrhs Its been having boot problems for about a week now, the pale ACER logo screen appears then goes to a blank screen, also the BIOS setting option dont appear (F2) so I cant get into BIOS. i've been looking around for solutions such as re-seating the RAM, putting the BIOS update on a flash pen drive and booting up holding the FN + ESC keys and tried the ACER Boot disc but none seem to be working. I have a LINUX disc (UBUNTU) it runs from the disc only so it does not affect my machine. It first starts up with the options: 1, Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer 2, Install Ubuntu 3, Check disc for defects 4, Test Memory 5, Boot from first hard disk (I tried this and it just goes to a blank screen) It also has F function options: F1 = Help F2 = Language F3 = Keymap F4 = Modes F5 = Accessibility F6 = Other Options Press F4 to select alternative start-up and installation modes I select the first option Try Ubuntu It runs the Ubuntu load up sequence (takes awhile) then it checks if everything is [OK]. After this sequence a Error Caution message appears saying: Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode The following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this. (EE) NV(0): No valid FB address in PCI config space (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. The only option i get is to click OK. Then it comes up with a menu saying What would you like to do? 1, Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session 2, Reconfigure graphics 3, Troubleshoot the error 4, Exit to console login I ran the first option and a blue screen pops up saying: there already appears to be an X server running on display :0. Should another display number by tried? Answering no will cause GDM to attempt starting the server on :0 again. (You can change consoles by pressing Ctrl-Alt plus a function key, such as Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go to console 7. X servers usually run on console 7 and higher) I press yes and Ubuntu loads. I looked in Hardware Drivers, it comes up with three drivers: 1, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 180) [Recommended] 2, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173) 3, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 96) None of them are Activated and it won't let me activate them. It does state No proprietary drivers are in use on this system. I restarted to get back to the options above and chose the third option Troubleshoot the error. It comes up with more options: What information would you like to review? 1, Review the xserver log file 2, Review the startup errors 3, Edit configuration file 4, Archive configuration and logs I clicked option two and one error was found Fatal Server Error: No screens found. I am not sure where or what to do next, I was running a Windows 7 professional edition. But it seems to have died on me, Im new to Ubuntu so im kind of lost. Now my system is running ubuntu under a resolution of 800*600 (temporary installation method). Will permenantly installing Ubuntu Fix this? I hope the information I gave here is understandable.
