[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492782] [NEW] Mouse cursor disappears after using xrandr
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I use xrandr to activate my external monitor or set the screen size of my Asus Eee 900A PC. However, since the upgrade to Ubuntu Karmic, the mouse cursor disappears after using xrandr. I'm using xorg version 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 and Ubuntu 9.10. The commands I use are: xrandr --output LVDS --mode 800x600 xrandr --output LVDS --off --output VGA --mode 1280x1024 After using these commands, the mouse cursor disappears, but I can still focus and click. Moving the (suspected, but invisible) mouse cursor over a desktop item, highlits it and I can activate it by clicking. One temporarily solution I've found is to switch to the console (CTRL + ALT + F1) and back (CTRL + ALT + F7). This makes the mouse cursor reappear. Using xrandr to reset to the original settings doesn't bring the cursor back. Am Samstag, 5. Dezember 2009 03:47:38 schrieben Sie: Same problem on my dell vostro using intel graphics card. This happened after a recent xserver upgrade. Very disappointing Some workaround is to change /etc/X11/xorg.conf to: Driver vesa # Driver intel (of course, that's only possible by booting an old version using a USB stick!) and to append nomodeset to the kernel boot line in grub. AFAICS, both of them are required. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492861] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] openoffice.org-presenter-console displays on the wrong monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Using the latest ati drivers on a Rv535 (Mobility Radeon X2300) video card. When using metacity and trying to display an openoffice impress presentation with a dual monitor setup, the presenter console is displayed on top of the presentation. That is on top of the actual presentation on the second monitor. This is obviously useless and incorrect. The presenter-console should be displayed on the laptop (monitor 1) while the presentation should be displayed on the external monitor (monitor 2). Interestingly, when I switch window managers to compiz, the behaviour of the presenter console **magically** is corrected and does not over lay on the single monitor (monitor 2). It behaves as expected. I know this presenter console worked with the FGLRX driver in Hardy Intrepid. So, I'm thinking that the xorg-xserver-ati (xorg-xserver- radeon) driver is mis-specifying the monitor 1/monitor 2 designation in how openoffice.org is quering xorg-xserver-ati? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
I wrote a small program that can be used to work-around the gnome- settings-daemon TapButton2/TapButton3 switching problem. It may be useful if you don't want to manually compile gnome-settings-daemon every time it is updated. If you switch between VTs or insert and remove other pointing devices it will reset TapButton settings back to what you want. It uses xinput watch-props to monitor changes to xinput properties. Whenever a certain property is changed the program resets this property back to the one configured in the properties array. You may want to edit this part of the code before compiling. To compile: $ gcc -o xinputd xinputd.c To install: $ sudo install -p -m 0755 xinputd /usr/local/bin/ To automatically start the program when logging in add xinputd to System - Preferences - Startup Applications. ** Attachment added: xinputd.c http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36476056/xinputd.c -- Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492121] Re: Karmic xorg updates fail to apply
Is there a way to back this out from the command line? I can only log in on the console now. I tried completely removing xserver-xorg and installing a prior version via apt-get per instructions I found on the Web but I am still unable to get X to run. Always dies with /dev/fb0 not found now. Since backing down to 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 didn't correct the problem, I firmly believe the real bug is in a supporting library which was installed as part of a different upgrade, but I have no idea which one or how to back it out. -- Karmic xorg updates fail to apply https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nv in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 464591] Re: upgrade breaks graphic drivers and x, preventing login or startx
** Description changed: see also here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305459 for some reasons the upgrade breaks proprietary graphics drivers this means a flickering screen without the possibility to login or startx. + + ATTENTION + + Since this bug report is being linked to by news stories, it is getting + viewed by many people with nvidia bugs that fail in similar ways but due + to unrelated causes. I'd like to direct them to more appropriate bug + reports: + + The blinks on reboot issue is a bug in gdm, bug #441638. That blinking + symptom will occur for any sort of failure of X to start, and there are + a lot of reasons why X may not start, so be aware that just because + someone else is reporting this same blinking behavior does not + necessarily mean you have the same underlying cause as them, so keep + digging. This is causing lots of confusion in bug reports. + + For those who have upgraded since Intrepid or earlier, there is an issue + reported where /sbin/lrm-video can cause nvidia to fail loading. That + file no longer exists in Jaunty or Karmic and you can safely delete it + as a work around. Bug #467490 describes this issue. I don't know how + common this is, but if it is common we may need to make sure the + upgrader removes the file properly. Manually uninstalling all nvidia + packages *might* clear the file. + + For people running -rt kernels, such as Ubuntu Studio users, -nvidia has + a known incompatibility there, see bug #464125 for example. Similar + situation for -pae kernels, see bug #454220 as a recent example. + + Someone mentioned that the upgrader disables the proprietary drivers. + According to mvo, that is not correct, or at least not intentional. + However, the upgrader *does* remove driver entries from xorg.conf if the + driver is no longer present after upgrade. As far as I know, this should + all work seamlessly for people, however several people have reported + that removing their xorg.conf and reinstalling -nvidia helped, so it is + possible there is an error in this logic. If you suspect this is the + case, what we need is a full bug report filed using 'ubuntu-bug xorg'; + in particular we need to see the xorg.conf files so we understand how + the upgrader is misbehaving. + + I see a lot in forum articles the advice that the solution is to + remove nvidia or fglrx lines from xorg.conf. While this may help in + getting the system functioning again, please note that it is not a + solution - it merely turns off the proprietary drivers. Whatever the + original problem was is still there, you're just using different video + drivers. Also, be aware that both nvidia and fglrx install GL and other + libraries on top of the normal system libraries, so if you install one + of those drivers and then use something else, it may work for 2D but you + may run into severe problems for 3D. This is also a known issue - bug + 258038 describes one possible solution we will be considering for Lucid. + It's a hard problem to solve for proprietary drivers though. + + There are almost certainly more nvidia bugs, but we also have plenty of + other bug reports (over 300 against -nvidia so far), many of which have + been reported using ubuntu-bug so are closer to having the information + we need. + + Finally, regarding people skills, actually after thousands of X bug + reports those get worn down to a raw nub so I don't think I have them + any more. All that's left is a grumpy X maintainer. + + p.s. Also see bug 438398 which appears to be the root cause for a lot of + the nvidia failures. Unfortunately jockey may not be flagging these + errors to the user (bug 441638) leading them to reboot without the + nvidia driver fully installed. -- upgrade breaks graphic drivers and x, preventing login or startx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 282939] Re: gnusound crashes X session immediately on launch (Affects Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic)
Ubuntu (9.10) today gave me a new kernel, and now gnusound does not crash the X (or Gnome?) session any more. Gnusound itself still does not work, it outputs a *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/gnusound.real terminated and displays an empty window. But the stabler Gnome session is definitely an advantage. -- gnusound crashes X session immediately on launch (Affects Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
