[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494359] [NEW] mtrr: no more MTRRs available makes X lock up when running Firefox with ATI driver

2009-12-09 Thread gjarboni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-mach64

On a HP Proliant DL380 G3 server with 6Gb of memory running Karmic with
the pae kernel these messages show up every time X is started. The X
session then becomes unresponsive. This wouldn't be such a big deal,
except that vmware refuses to run without being able to run Firefox.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-12-09 Thread Macarena
hi guys,

I'm don't understand so much, but I wanna help how I can since this bug affects
me too.
I'm using the same video card, and it only cracks on resolution 1280x1024 or
bigger.
I'm using 1280 x 960 and it looks fine, but compiz is really slow.
I'm attaching my x.org.conf. Interesting is: it was automatically generated by
Gusty Gibbon (7.10). On Jaunty (9.04), It wasn't generated automatically, but
when I paste the gusty xorg.conf, it works fine even on 1400x1050 resolution.
So we have both problems: 1 - the black desktop on karmic; 2 - no more
automatic configuration of xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341681] Re: [HD 3650] Startup failure Idle timed out, resetting engine...

2009-12-09 Thread Lawrence LaSH
I have tried installing a driver through envyng, the ATI driver and the fglrx
driver through Hardware Drivers.
And then limited the RAM to 2GB.

Still this does not work for me.

I am new to using Ubuntu. Am I missing some steps in what should be
done?

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 and had install and still currently running
on the safe graphics (vesa) setting. My computer is the Toshiba A350
laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 / 4GB SDRAM / ATI Mobility
Radeon HD 7450 512 MB.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: Nvidia-glx is removed by a new xorg 7.5 [lucid]

2009-12-09 Thread Harry
Timo Aaltonen, not quite right.
As I already mentioned in my previous post (#2), there is a compatible nvidia
driver around.
And just to mention, there are other distros (like Arch), where xorg7.5/xorg1.7
does not cause trouble like this.
By the way, Nvidia drivers 190 and 195beta do have support for the new xorg.

2009-12-09 Thread Harry
ComputerJy, you will have to add the ~sevenmachines repo to your sources.list
(Nvidia PPA).
Then you can install 190 or 195 for example with Synaptic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 330989] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DamageUnregister()

2009-12-09 Thread Bela Lubkin
For what it's worth: the computer I had this problem is now more or less
retired.
The SiS video is part of the motherboard. The computer still works. If someone
would like to receive this machine for the purpose of working on this bug, I am
willing to donate it. (Yes, I'm basically offering you my garbage ;-)

Computer lives in Mountain View, CA and can thumb a ride up to Oregon or
wherever.

Bug has not been seen since 2 weeks before Jaunty final release, as I had
put in a PCI video board. I can't confirm if it's still current in Karmic.

ro

In menu.conf. If I boot with the first version options. I got out sync
message. Strangely the DRM broblem disappeared.

Ok then, marking this as a wishlist bug. Failsafe should try max three
times or so and bail out to the console.

Your bug was having no matching kernel driver for nvidia. DKMS failed
to build the driver for some reason.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: Nvidia-glx is removed by a new xorg 7.5 [lucid]

2009-12-09 Thread Harry
Timo, yes you are right about that.
Lucid main repo lags behind now.
Still, if I wait for the official repos to be updated and either not upgrade to
new xorg or do not use nvidia drivers, I feel like being on my own too.
The PPA I mentioned offered nvidia graphics drivers that work really well.
It wouldn't after all be a big issue to remove them with lets say Synaptic and
install official lucid packages, if need to.

some Google searches (for example http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/ati-

'SIGH' - See Immediate  Gracious Help? Thank you, it is appreciated;
as a Microsoft expert trying to make the switchover, one thing I
notice is how eager to help the open source community is.

I did nothing except follow the DVD install to the letter, and then
install the proprietary graphics drivers that the OS prompted me to,
in the desperate hope it would stop the onboard fan continuously
running at full pelt. So I am still none the wiser.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446641] Re: [i845] DRM fails to become master, results in (extremely) slow software rasterization

2009-12-09 Thread Saint Aardvark
I believe I encountered the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop
after upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic: rendering was unbearably slow,
the error messages about DRM in Xorg.0.log were the same, and the
/dev/dri directory did not exist.

Upgrading the kernel to linux-image-2.6.31-16-generic made the problem
go away; performance was fine, /dev/dri/card0 showed up, and Xorg.0.log
showed DRI2 was enabled. Please let me know if you'd like more
information; I've still got the old kernel around, so I can get
debugging info if needed.
