[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469700] Re: [Karmic] Can not start tvtime (lacking hardware YUY2 overlay support)

2009-12-28 Thread wgbuntu
I have the 82865G chip and the tvtime requires hardware YUY2 overlay
support from your video card error. Grub nomodeset didn't work for me.
But this rollback worked.

rollbacking to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.4 resolves the issue (ppa:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/siretart/ppa/ubuntu).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436047] Re: quando activo efeitos graficos tudo sai do lugar nru

2009-12-28 Thread Bryce Harrington

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we
may be able to pass upstream for help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446632] Re: blender-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in GPU_state_init()

2009-12-28 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
The fix for this bug should now be included in Lucid, so I'm closing
this bug report.

For the other crashes you are experiencing with blender 2.5, this bug
report should serve as a model for a new bug report. mistr has written
up how to git-bisect mesa in order to find the bad commit at [1] . Our
experience with this bug is that once the triggering commit is found,
upstream can fix it quickly. Of course it is possible that the crashes
with 2.5 are not due to mesa but an ati driver or something else, but
that should be clear from the full backtrace.

The hangs you are experiencing may be a GPU freeze (see [2]) or a kernel
problem. Also in this case, a bisect is usually what is needed to
resolve the problem (but possibly of the linux kernel or the ati
driver). This should also be reported in a new bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501018] [NEW] LCD backlight won't stay off

2009-12-28 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Currently on lucid beta, also experienced this on karmic for sure and
possibly earlier.

Gnome's screensaver is off, and power management is set to turn off the
monitor after ten minutes.

xset dpms force off turns off the screen and backlight for
approximately a minute, before the display turns back on. Seemingly
randomly, the 10 minute timer only blanks the screen rather than also
turning off the backlight. This occurs under metacity and compiz.

This is a single lcd on an intel-video laptop; I also see seemingly
identical symptom on two desktops with nvidia video cards running dual-
head desktops under both metacity and compiz (proprietary driver, under
karmic and jaunty), and on a singleheaded radeon 9250 (open driver,
karmic), (1) where the display's may be sit for days without turning off
the backlight despite the power options being configured, (2) xset dpms
force off turning the backlight off, and then back on to a full display
after a minute or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368394] Re: netbook launcher mouse focus is off

2009-12-28 Thread Jarda Benkovsky
Hi, I have Dell Latitude E4200 with an integrated intel graphics, latest
Karmic; I had the same problem, mouse clicks in launcher worked only in
in certain places, both in tabs and for application icons. Mouse
highlight worked ok, though.

Upgrade of only the xorg-edgers PPA xserver-xorg-video-intel did not help, but
apt-get upgrade did.
Thanks!

I upgraded from Jaunty, where this was not an issue at all, to Karmic, where
this is a most frustrating issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500226] Re: Jmonkeyengine demo causes system to freeze

2009-12-28 Thread Sami Pietila
Hi,

I am not exactly sure how should I produce relevant debug information. I
produced backtrace with gdb using SSH-method. I attached Xorg process to
GDB and then run backtrace full -command.

Unfortunatey if I run continue (as stated in instruction) in gdb, the
gdb would not let me to enter commands after that. Ctrl+c did not help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2009-12-28 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I have compiled three Ubuntu Jaunty kernel packages based on Brian
Rogers' findings upstream at made them available at
http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/ . They may also work in Karmic, but
I'm not sure. If you have the same problem as Brian, 2.6.30-freezetest1
should work without the freezes and 2.6.30-freezetest9 should freeze. I
also included another kernel, 2.6.30-freezetest8, which is the same as
freezetest9 except the last (and suspicious) commit is not included. If
2.6.30-freezetest8 doesn't freeze and 2.6.30-freezetest9 does, we know
what commit triggers the problem and upstream can hopefully use that to
fix this bug. If freezetest8 also freezes there is some more bisecting
to do.

In order to test the kernels, it is enough to download the linux-
image*.deb packages. (the linux-headers packages are not necessary for
testing). They install side-by-side with the each other and the other
packages on your system, so you can download all three to a folder and
do an `dpkg -i linux-image*.deb`. You can then choose which kernel to
test in the Grub boot menu. When you are done testing you may remove the
test kernels with `dpkg -P linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest1 linux-
image-2.6.30-freezetest8 linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest9`.

I may set up a wiki page for reporting test results, but for now feel
free to report the results in a comment here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855

2009-12-28 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I have compiled three Ubuntu Jaunty kernel packages based on Brian
Rogers' findings upstream for bug 456902 (similar to this but for 845G
chipset) and made them available at http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/ .
They may also work in Karmic, but I'm not sure. This may turn out to be
the same problem as bug 456902, and if it is the freezetest1 kernel
should not trigger the freezes, while the freezetest9 kernel should. I
have also made freezetest8 which is the commit before freezetest9. If
this works and freezetest9 doesn't, we know what the bad commit is and
upstream can hopefully use that to fix this bug. If freezetest8 also
freezes there is some more bisecting to do.

In order to test the kernels, it is enough to download the linux-
image*.deb packages. (the linux-headers packages are not necessary for
testing). They install side-by-side with the each other and the other
packages on your system, so you can download all three to a folder and

test kernels with `dpkg -P linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest1 linux-
image-2.6.30-freezetest8 linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest9`.

I may set up a wiki page for reporting test results, but for now feel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361456] Re: [RS690] fglrx HDMI overscan in both 720p and 1080p modes

2009-12-28 Thread Peter B P
Despite the bug being closed, i hope I can bring some new light on this.

I've obtained a new display today; Samsung SyncMaster P2450 - 1920x1080.
It replaces an older 1920x1200 display.

The new display has native HDMI, the older only had DVI-D, and i used it
with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter to make it work, but it worked fine.

My gfx card is a Radeon HD4650, likewise with a native HDMI port.

After some unrelated bugs with usplash, I've run my head into this -
that the edges of the screen are cut off. Mind, this is not a TV
display, but a regular PC display. After pulling out some newly grown
grey hairs, I succumbed to installing the ATI fglrx drivers, and
discovered that the screen cutoff is related to overscanning (set in
Display Settings Scaling Options). Setting it to a low value
(underscanning) makes the entire desktop vibsible, but making it match
the screen edges precisely seems impossible.

There is still the problem that even though I can line the desktop up
mostly well witht he screen edges, the pixels still seem blurred, and
this is unaceptable.

Uninstalling fglrx reverts the overscan settign back to max, cutting off
the screen edges again.

Since Bryce H. asked for a triage 5 minths ago with the recently updated
drivers then, I'd assume that the bug is not fixed.

I'll try to be of assistance if more needs to be done.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2009-12-28 Thread Mark Ellse
1. Running the installer in Safe graphics mode seems not only to run
the installer in safe graphics mode, but also to install either karmic
or lucid alpha in a safe graphics mode in which the freezes don't occur.
Some packages, like Gnometris (Quatropassel in Luicd) behave strangely
in safe graphics mode, to an extent that makes them unuseable. Other are
hardly affected.

2. Anyone know of a way, with Karmic or Luicid, to invoke safe graphics
mode on bootup of an installed system so that the system is live long
enough to do the kernal testing suggested by Geir?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

X crashes after a long time (45 minutes, minimum, many hours maximum)
after starting. Did not crash for 9.04, only after upgrade to 9.10.

Using netbook remix on ACER Atheros AR5BXB63, 16 GB hdd.

Sorry, but I haven't yet found any pattern / cause that triggers the
crash.

X quits, I get a bunch of messages (too fast to see) on the console,
then X restarts automatically with the login screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501099] [NEW] system hangs when using dual head and fglrx

2009-12-28 Thread Nathan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

System randomly hangs when using dual monitors. X server becomes
completely unresponsive, unable to switch to tty (ctrl+alt+f1).
Strangely, if there was audio playing, it continues fine.

The hang usually occurs when watching video on one screen and doing
something else on the other. I have repeated the crash using VLC and
Totem. The hang has also occured when running a virtual machine one one
head and something else on the other.

The system becomes unresponsive before any logs are written to disk, so
there is nothing in kern.log, syslog, or messages. When the hang
reoccurs I will hopefully find some log messages to help here.

More info:

Kernel: 2.6.31-16
xorg-driver-fglrx: 2:8.660
Compiz is enabled.

I couldn't find any similar bugs here. #333027 is close, but my bug
does not involve video playback exclusively.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501064] Re: nvidia-glx-71 a.k.a. nvidia-legacy not longer in repository

2009-12-28 Thread Alberto Milone
Unfortunately Nvidia didn't update their driver 71.xx to add the support
for recent releases of the xserver that Ubuntu uses. There is nothing we
can do to solve this problem because the driver is proprietary and we
don't have access to its source code.

We plan on replacing the driver with the open source nouveau driver
which (in the future) will support 3D acceleration.

** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-71 (Ubuntu)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2009-12-28 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
On Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 1:30 PM, Mark Ellse wrote:

You can use the alternate CD to install, so that the installer doesn't
start X at all.

 2. Anyone know of a way, with Karmic or Luicid, to invoke safe graphics
mode on bootup of an installed system so that the system is live long
enough to do the kernal testing suggested by Geir?

You can boot into recovery mode from the Grub boot menu. If you
already have downloaded the files you can choose root shell from the
recovery menu. If you need to download them, you may choose netroot
(but then you may need ethernet instead of wireless).

The easiest way to test is probably to use Jaunty. It should not have
these freeze problems with the standard kernel. You can then install
the kernels without problems and then boot the test kernels to check
if the system freezes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501144] [NEW] [HD3870] black flicker on login, starting totem, starting app with wine, games (opengl?), WITHOUT compiz

2009-12-28 Thread SHyx0rmZ
Public bug reported:

ubuntu version: Ubuntu 9.10 (doesn't really matter, have this bug since 8.04)
fglrx version: 2:8.681-0ubuntu1

After having read many reports about flickering when compiz is enabled
(and my problems with it) I completely uninstalled it. I also
uninstalled all xorg-video drivers except for the vesa, fb, and fglrx.

The screen will flicker sometimes, this will also make the system lag. Problem
can be observed:
- after entering my password and the desktop loading (flickers ~3 times)
- when starting totem (flickers ~1 time)
- when starting an app with wine (flickers ~10 times)
- when starting some games (tuxracer, supertux, ...; usually ~1 time)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501150] [NEW] Merge xterm 251-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)

2009-12-28 Thread Artur Rona
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

 xterm (251-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Update copy of XTerm FAQ to revision 1.107 (dated 2009/11/11).
   * Upstream introduced a new 'disallowedWindowOps' resource to fine-tune
which operations are affected by the 'allowWindowOps' setting. After
discussion with the security team, change the default for the new resource
 to include all operations.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Sat, 28 Nov 2009 14:46:51 +0100
xterm (250-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release
+ add check and error-message for fonts that have no printable values in
   the ISO-8859-1 range (closes: #542434)
+ limit minimum cell-width for packed font to maximum-advance
reported by Xft. Some fonts are wider than that, even in the Latin-1
   range (closes: #550497)
+ correct off-by-one in okPosition fix from patch #249 limit-checks which
prevented double-click selection on the bottom line of the screen
   (closes: #550368)
+ document in xterm manpage the limited availability of resources color16
to color255 as noted in patch #188 (LP: #438850)

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Tue, 13 Oct 2009 20:20:08 +0200
xterm (249-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
+ add limit-checks for result of visual_width() function, needed from
patch #242 and exposed by #244 changes (closes: #548321).
   * Upstream changed the default of AllowWindowOps to false, remove patch
 903_windowops.diff.
   * Use the upstream default for pointerMode; drop patch
 902_pointermode_never.diff.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Sun, 04 Oct 2009 15:40:16 +0200
xterm (248-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release
+ correct logic used to improve performance of missing-glyph check, which
did not handle line-drawing characters (closes: #545220)

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Wed, 16 Sep 2009 15:53:07 +0200
xterm (247-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3.
   * Remove David Martínez Moreno from Uploaders as he hasn't been active on
 this package lately.
   * Kill remaining subversion $Id$ tags from debian packaging files.
   * Use libutempter, remove setgid bit from the xterm binary (closes: #537867).

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Fri, 04 Sep 2009 16:24:35 +0200
xterm (246-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release
+ interaction between allowSendEvents and the various allowXXXOps
resources clarified in manpage (closes: #531597)
+ remove obsolete logic for saving/restoring wrapping flags, which did not
work on 64-bit platform. Wrapping flags (stored in the line-index) are
now copied with line-data (closes: #541160)
+ modify comments in app-defaults files to avoid problem with C
preprocessor used by xrdb (closes: #541603)
+ restore special case in makeColorPair needed for colorBDMode resource
   (closes: #541089)
+ correct SetLineFlags() macro, broken in patch #244 when recoding to
   avoid gcc-specific bitfields (closes: #541236)
   * The issues with the fifo-lines code should now be fixed, so enable it
 again.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Sun, 23 Aug 2009 00:35:21 +0200
xterm (244-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Configure with --disable-fifo-lines to work around a crash in the new
 saved-lines handling code (closes: #541236, #541160, #541132, #541109).
Thanks to Thomas Dickey for the workaround.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Wed, 12 Aug 2009 22:25:16 +0200
xterm (244-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release
 + remove a limit-check in ptydata.c, allowing Unicode values past 64k to
be displayed using TrueType fonts (closes: #458432)
+ demote recent (xterm 242) change to Debian #252873 fix to experimental,
   ifdef'd out as EXP_BOGUS_FG (closes: #522141)
+ work around groff mapping of ASCII quotes using macros (requested by
Reuben Thomas based on Colin Watson advice (closes: #378700)
   * Switch debian/rules to xsfbs instead of copying half of (an outdated
version of) it (closes: #538594). Incidentally, this provides
README.source, and allows us to bump Standards-Version to 3.8.2.
   * Remove preinst dealing with upgrades from pre-etch versions.
   * Remove from postinst some code to fix pre-etch non-released versions.
   * Refresh/update patches.
   * Bump debian/compat to 5, as compatibility level 4 has been deprecated.
   * Remove obsolete debian/README.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 266911] Re: blank screen when starting second session (tested with guest session)

2009-12-28 Thread swulf
This bug is still present on a fresh install of Karmic (9.10) on a
Lenovo W500. If you select 'Guest session' you get a blank screen, an
unresponsive machine and you have to hard reboot to recover.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver

2009-12-28 Thread Peter Belew
I have temporarily interrupted looking at this bug in order to install
Karmic, to check for any progress on bug # 436341 on the same laptop.
I'll re-install Lucid again soon, or wait for Lucid beta-2.

** Summary changed:

- [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't
work, on Averatec 3280 with openchrome driver
+ [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501206] [NEW] xserver-xorg-input-wacom conflicts with xserver-xorg-core

2009-12-28 Thread Taylor Ripps L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wacom-tools

I upgraded to Lucid Alpha, and I unfortunately discovered that my wacom
graphire3 doesn't work properly. Whenever I click using the pen, the mouse
stops working when I hover over the tablet. I have to move the pen a good
distance away from the tablet before it starts working again. Looking into it,
it seems that wacom-tools and xserver-xorg-input-wacom weren't installed and
couldn't be installed because of some kind of conflict with xserver-xorg-core.
Since I have carpal tunnel, and using a normal mouse for a long period time
begins to cause a good deal of pain, it is very important that I get my
graphire3 working soon.

you should get the backtrace _after_ the crash. GDB will catch that.
