Reopening, the crash is fixed with the patch but it turns out that the colors are all wrong (just as Aaron wrote in his mail). I don't really know why it worked well for me in my testing yesterday, but today the colors are all wrong. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297143] Re: Xorg eats processor cycles while waiting for slow Internet
Not sure if this relates to this bug or something new, but on a fresh install of karmic, whenever I open thunderbird, xorg almost grinds to a halt. Thunderbird just needs to be open, It be doing absolutely nothing (my inbox is an IMAP box with IDLE enabled however). Switching virtual desktops takes anywhere between 2-4 seconds! I can see redraws of any application's UI mostly and even just typing an e-mail message is slow and tedious. Closing thunderbird makes my system return to normal operating speed. (The same, though a little less slow, happens when running nxclient) Both happen with compiz effects enabled and disabled, albeit when disabled it's less noticable. ** Attachment added: lspci.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37497664/lspci.log -- Xorg eats processor cycles while waiting for slow Internet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 300028] Re: [intrepid] Can only login using failsafe Gnome: unable to open file '/usr/share/apps/kxkb/ubuntu.xmodmap' for reading
Hi all. I have the correct solution for you who find your Compose/Multi key not working. The gist is that KDE put its fingers in the fray, and when you removed some KDE program, it left behind commands in 'conffiles' that empty your modmap additions. The /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80ubuntu-xmodmap file is created by kdebase-bin . Make sure you can remove 'kdebase-bin' package, and its conf files. Either of: $ sudo dpkg -P kdebase-bin $ apt-get remove --purge kdebase-bin If you can rid your system of it, you may continue. If not, then this doesn't apply to you. (AFAICT) That conffile was somehow orphaned not long ago. Even though you remove the package, the orphaned conffile may still exist. Check. If '/etc/X11/Xsession.d/80ubuntu-xmodmap' still exists and $ dpkg -S /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80ubuntu-xmodmap says nothing owns it, then you may remove it. After you log in next time, your compose key should work. -- [intrepid] Can only login using failsafe Gnome: unable to open file '/usr/share/apps/kxkb/ubuntu.xmodmap' for reading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xinit in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
OK, I looked a little further, here’s my understanding. * The touchpad is first configured with xorg.conf, hal policies and the code in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. * When GNOME starts, the gnome-settings-daemon kicks in. It has a mouse plugin that resets TapButton# settings every once in a while, and on each change of the tap_to_click gconf setting. It does that by changing the Synaptics Tap Action property, replacing the 5th, 6th and 7th values with (0,0,0) or (1,3,2) to disable or enable tap-to-click, respectively. * The Synaptics Tap Action property is documented in synaptics(4): “order: RT, RB, LT, LB, F1, F2, F3.” So, 1-finger tap is set to button 1 (left), 2-finger tap to button 3 (right), and 3-finger tap to button 2 (middle). * The xserver-xorg-input-synaptics patch 104_always_enable_tapping.patch is irrelevant because it would only affect the initial setup, which is overridden by gnome-settings-daemon mouse plugin. * The xserver-xorg-input-synaptics patch 105_correct_multifinger_click.patch is irrelevant because it is commented out, and because it dealt with gestures like “put 2 or 3 fingers on the touchpad and click the physical left button” rather than “tap with 2 or 3 buttons”. * The Jaunty version of gnome-settings-daemon does not include the tap-to-click code, which explains why the bug appeared in Karmic. I have created a patch for gnome-settings-daemon that adds three gconf settings and passes their values into Synaptics Tap Action property, and submitted it to the GNOME Bugzilla at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598820#c10 . ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #598820 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598820 -- Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Akria: Since this is a problem with xorg please could you open a new bug and report your bug there. The reason this needs to be done is because in xorg there are a lot of bugs that show the same symptoms but have different causes therefore until we are sure that it is a duplicate it would be useful to have it as a separate bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 280805] Re: nvidia graphics driver 177.80 on geforce 8400 makes fan spin all the time
I'm running Karmic (9.10) and a Dell Latitude D630. I was running NVidia drivers 173 and my BIOS was version A08. My fan was spinning loudly mostly when the machine came back from suspend mode, but not exclusively, as it would get loud at random times during the day. The GPU temp was 60, and the cores where 38 and 37. I used one of those pressurized air cans and cleaned the fan without opening the case (it was very dirty). I upgraded the BIOS to A15 (latest), and upgraded the NVidia drivers to 195.30 (latest stable). Now, I'm running a whole bunch of processes to try to get the fan to spin loudly, and even though my temps are GPU 72, Core0 68, Core1 67, the fan is not loud at all, and it hasn't been for the past 30 mins, so I think the problem went away. Can you guys post your temperatures? When you say Low or High, how much is that? I'm trying to see what value I should set my GPU high temp alarm. -- nvidia graphics driver 177.80 on geforce 8400 makes fan spin all the time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280805 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm using XAA, not EXA (I've heard EXA is more likely to have weird graphics problems). -- [K8M890]Square cursor with Ubuntu 9.04 livecd, during VNC connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377402 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 28052] Re: Improve mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings
with all the tools now available in X, it would be great to have the following properties in gnome-mouse-properties: speed (general linear speed multiplier) acceleration (non-linear speed modifier) threshold (distance before acceleration) And name them correctly, because it is misleading when threshold slider is named sensitivity, to put it mildly. also current visualization in g-m-p is very unhandy. Slider does not give any useful information, nor it gives the ability to set proper values. A text field is needed to see and modify numeral values. For example I have to use gconf-editor to set acceleration strictly to 1 in order to disable it, because there is no way to tell which value is set with slider. -- Improve mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/28052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is a direct subscriber. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
I can confirm the random freeze behavior with Ubuntu 9.10 on a Toshiba 10 Satellite, just freshly installed. Started googling the problem and found this bug report. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500686] Re: [i945g] freezes shortly after loading desktop
here is some more info that may help: installed 9.04and it worked fine with kernel 2.6.28-11 generic; then I updated which gave me kernel 2.6.28-17 and it still works in gnome; then I tried kernel 2.6.31-15 generic and it froze like before as did 2.6.31-14 (I think). How do I get rid of the other choices so it will just boot without stopping at that menu? Is there some way to let me know if this bug gets fixed so I can upgrade and so I can move up to Lucid in April? When you upgrade, the old kernels are not uninstalled. That is why you had several kernels to choose from. 2.6.32-9 should be the standard Lucid kernel. I think the hint is called a tooltip. It's okay to use 64-bit. I have that on my laptop as well (on the test/daily-use partition which used to have Karmic and now has Lucid, I have a 32-bit Jaunty one for work that I set up and customised and don't want to change). -- [i945g] freezes shortly after loading desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500686 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Actually, that's awesome! That means that there is a kernel commit that triggers this bug (this is also the case for some freezes on 845G and 855GM that I'm troubleshooting. And since you have your standard Jaunty kernel that works well, you may be able to help identify the bad commit by testing some other kernels. To check which kernel version introduces the freezes, there are prebuilt mainline kernels at [1], see [2] for more info. We may be lucky that the commit that introduced freezes on either 845G or 855GM is the same one that introduces them for you. I'm getting: Unhandled exception: C++ exception(object = 0x0033fab4, type = 0x1054ceec) in 32-bit code (0x7b843d22). now, followed by a RegisterDump and a Backtrace: Backtrace: =0 0x7b843d22 in kernel32 (+0x23d22) (0x0033f444) 1 0x7e830c3c _CxxThrowException+0x3c() in msvcrt (0x0033f474) 2 0x100e8811 in engine (+0xe8811) (0x0033fbb0) 3 0x102e4056 in engine (+0x2e4056) (0x0033fcf8) 4 0x0040406e in nksp (+0x406e) (0x0033fd54) 5 0x00404fdb in nksp (+0x4fdb) (0x0033fdc0) 6 0x004057d8 in nksp (+0x57d8) (0x0033fe0c) 7 0x00407cd2 in nksp (+0x7cd2) (0x0033fea8) 8 0x7b877cb4 in kernel32 (+0x57cb4) (0x0033fee8) 9 0x7bc6ed14 call_thread_func+0xc() in ntdll (0x0033fef8) 10 0x7bc6eee0 call_thread_entry_point+0x70() in ntdll (0x0033ffc8) 11 0x7bc4adea in ntdll (+0x3adea) (0x0033ffe8) 12 0xf75fdedd wine_call_on_stack+0x1d() in libwine.so.1 (0x) err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c005 flags 0 addr 0x10433603 as setting the 32bit DRI get me one step further, are there any other options at this point to set more to 32bit libs? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441565] Re: netbook-launcher crashed with SIGSEGV in radeonSwapBuffers()
@Tormod Volden. I had a fellow at my LUG today having this issue. He has an R200 based chip (Radeon Mobility 9000). This is an Ubuntu Karmic Nebook install, all updates as of today. The updated mesa from x-swat's x-updates did not solve the issue. The only solution we found was to create an xorg.conf file to set NoAccel to true. It works and is stable now, but is rather extremely slow. What other information do you need from his machine? Any other things you would like to try? -- netbook-launcher crashed with SIGSEGV in radeonSwapBuffers() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441565 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: meta bug to collect lshal touchscreen info
HELP! Help! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451518] Re: [i945G] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds.
Update - I have tried with kernel 2.6.31-16 and parameter acpi=off and I was unable to reproduce the bug for 3 days. I would say acpi fixes the issue. Now, I have switched to kernel 2.6.31-17 and I will test again without acpi=off (the default way) and I will let you know if I have more instabilities... -- [i945G] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502055] Re: [82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
Terry O'Brien: You don't need to make a new bug, I was telling Akria to make a new one. The message which said Changed in xserver-xorg-video- intel (Ubuntu): status: Incomplete → New is a message from launchpad telling that I had changed what package this bug was assigned to and its status.
